Reynolds was the winner of this year's Norris Tucker Chili Cook-off. He used a combination of a beef stew, three different types of Ro-tel tomatoes, along with other special secret ingredients, to win the one hundred dollar grand prize. Gene has become a master chili maker over the years, winning and placing in this very same contest, many times. Nothing better than a man who can cook! MUZZLEBLAST UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT The last several months have been very productive at Gateway. We have completed the following: 1. Major maintenance on the general purpose range and 7/15 yard pistol range block walls 2. Rebuilt the eyebrows on the 7/15 yard line 3. Sandbagged the billboard on the 7/15 yard line 4. Rebuilt or repaired 6 rock box baffles on the rifle lines 5. Installed a new clay pigeon thrower on the shotgun line The next big project that Charlie and Don will be tackling is cleaning up some of the debris left over from past construction projects so we can get better use those areas. Now that our corporate tax return for 2010 has been filed, we will be scheduling our annual internal audit. We like to get volunteers from our membership to bring a fresh perspective each year, so if you would like to help, please contact me at or contact Brenda Trickler our club business manager. We will likely schedule the audit for late May. One last note, congratulations to club member Ted Carter who was recently elected to the NRA Board of Directors. If you should need to reach Ted, he has the same contact info as Sue Carter our Treasurer. Randy Erickson pres@grpc-jax.com

As many of you know, our life memberships of ten times the annual membership has been closed for some years as we are limited to a maximum number by our Club bylaws. However, the higher grade Endowment Membership available at twenty times the annual membership is still available. We are now over 45 years old and are still growing. 6 PAGE 6 MUZZLEBLAST Concealed Weapon and Firearm License Class Offered at GRPC This class is offered the first Saturday of each month (holidays permitting) and begins at The cost is 35$ per person for GRPC members, 40$ per person for non members. The course meets the State of Florida s requirements for application to obtain a CWFL. It is taught by certified NRA Instructors, and takes about three and a half hours. Notary and photograph are available. Live fire at seven yards is required. You will need a handgun and 15 rounds of appropriate ammunition, plus vision and hearing protection. Limited coaching/instruction provided as needed on the firing line. The course emphasizes gun safety and familiarization. If you plan on carrying, you have the obligation to be competent in use. Stress fire reduces the operator to the lowest level of their training. The firing line procedures and class instruction operate on the assumption nobody has held a handgun before, don t get your feelings hurt. No gun? If possible, note that when preregistering, we can supply a limited number. The financial proceeds go to our Junior Club s operation. You can pre-register at the club office, or be a walk-in. 7 MUZZLEBLAST Page 7 WARNING TO ALL MEMBERS The Incident Report Committee directed me, Bill Craig, to again have printed an abbreviated version of a previous Muzzleblast article. We are having some very serious unacceptable conduct from members and even implied threats to our Range Safety Officers (RSO s). I strongly believe that the readers of this Muzzleblast are not the people causing the problems. However, we do need your help to document serious safety violations and abuse to our RSO s should you witness such actions. Frankly, we do not need this type people in our Club. We will administer disciplinary actions from a suspension and up to permanent revocation of membership. Legal action may also be taken. There are two areas of concern that continue to arise at our Club ranges. A. The most important is the fact that a few, just a few, members have been shooting high power rifles on the back section of the all purpose range. This is a major safety violation and is against the posted Club rules in that area. You are jeopardizing the rights of all of our Club members. Let there be NO misunderstanding. If you are caught shooting high power center fire cartridges such as but not limited to the.30 caliber US carbine, 223 Remington (5.56 NATO), 7.62 x 39 mm Soviet, 308 Winchester in these all purpose range areas, you will face legal action and/or loss of Club membership. If in doubt as to what or where you can shoot, contact a Range Safety Officer before firing. B. The second area of concern is the increase of incident reports which report members who are arguing with our Range Safety Officers (RSO s) after being corrected for a Club rule or safety violation. The RSO s have full authority at the ranges to enforce rules and check membership badges. They have the authority to tell major violators of safety or Club rules to leave the range. Time permitting, they are also a source of information and help to Club members. With the noise of gunshots and decreased hearing through ear protectors, they generally have to yell or talk loudly to be heard. Please cooperate with the RSO s. Serious safety or bad conduct will result in disciplinary action from the BOD. Conversely, members have the right to write an incident report on an RSO s behavior which is also taken seriously by Club management. The best rule is this. Obey the RSO s at the time and do not argue or give them a hard time. You can grieve later, make complaints with an incident report or make a verbal complaint to any Club officer or BOD member. For all you other members who pay your dues, enjoy the Club and follow rules, and are not in the above two groups, THANKS AGAIN!
