5 PROCEDURES:- Normal NRA Procedures will apply, as outlined in the Bisley Bible and amplified by the Rules and Regulations for Historic Arms (published for the Imperial Historic Arms Meeting 1999). Detailed RULES AND REGULATIONS (including notes on PROCEDURES and a table of Aggregates) are available for those who require them. The following aspects of the Meeting supercede any general Rules where conflict may occur. LOADING: A loading period is allowed before each series except Deliberate (3 targets of 5 shots in 10 minutes including loading, best 10 to count). CAPPING may only take place on RCOs command. Firers are required to charge 5 (five) chambers for each series. Single-loading is NOT permitted. (i.e., using only ONE chamber / charge hole) Additional cylinders and/or loading blocks are permitted but loading times will not be extended: cylinders and loading blocks may be charged (loaded with powder and projectile but not capped) on command of the RCO; a charged (but not capped) cylinder or loading block may remain on the bench during scoring/marking but may NOT be in position in the revolver/pistol. SIGHTING: With the exception of Deliberate, an sighting period will be allowed before the first scoring series. The number of sighting shots is not prescribed. LATE SHOTS fired after the final signal in a time-limited series will be penalised by the loss of the highest-scoring shot on that target. SCORING and PATCHING: Firers will be required to ship, patch and collect targets as required and may be required to score the targets for each other. Scoring is INWARDS gauging, shot-holes gauged using a nominal.45 gauge. (This is because the dimensions of the HBSA 25-m scaled target were calculated on the basis that the original 19 th Century NRA Scoring which was inwards-gauging using.450 ammunition.). COUNTING OUT: backwards from the last target scored. Where two targets are exposed on the same target frame the UPPER one shall be Target #1. Scores are entered on the Scorecard as required. The firer must sign to accept the entered scores and any totals (which may be subject to correction by Stats.) The scorecard must be returned to STATS stapled to the shot targets for that Match. Aggregate claims are the responsibility of the firer who must complete the corresponding Claim Card in good time. MISFIRES and MALFUNCTIONS: No allowance will be made for misfires or malfunctions: at the end of a series in which an (un-cleared) misfire/malfunction occurs the firer must call the RCO and await instructions: with the permission of the CRO a disabled firearm may be replaced by another eligible for the Match (not necessarily of identical design but of the same Class/Type). PRIZEGIVING: As soon as feasible following the last detail. Medals and Certificates remain the property of the Winner(s); Challenge Trophies (if awarded) must be signed for and returned to the Organisers in good time before the next Open Meeting. Full results will be available as soon as possible and firers will be sent these, together with any AWARDS and/or CERTIFICATES. Extracts from APPENDIX 1 (DEFINITIONS) & APPENDIX 2 (PROCEDURES). GENERAL Detail:- Time reserved on a range/ firing-point to shoot, under the command of a Range Officer. Series:- a sequence of shots as described in the COURSE LIST fired at a TARGET (q.v.), under the control of a Range Conducting Officer (RCO); one or more SERIES may be combined to produce a COURSE OF FIRE (q.v.); Target:- the designated item at which shots are fired during a SERIES. Normally of paper, it may contain one or more DIAGRAMS (q.v.). Diagram:- a printed device consisting of scoring zones (normally concentric rings) with designated values: some of the central zones are printed BLACK to give an Aiming Mark. N.B., where it is not feasible to adjust the sights of a Standard Revolver the firer may - with the EXPRESS permission of the RCO - apply a TEMPORARY / SUPPLEMENTARY Aiming Mark of not more than 3 diameter in a manner which will not inconvenience other firers. Course of Fire:- a sequence of shots consisting of one or more SERIES (q.v.) of shots, the totals being part of a MATCH (q.v.). Match:- One or more Targets, or Series or Courses of Fire the scores of which are entered on a MATCHCARD for use in a Competition. 6 FIREARMS All firearms shall be Of Proof. REVOLVERS use B.P. or B.P.-substitute as appropriate; only a Class 4 Modern Muzzle-loader may use smokeless powder. (Class 1) STANDARD PERCUSSION REVOLVER: A 19 th -Century percussion cap muzzle-loading design without later improvements, other than normal gunsmithing practices. Sights of contemporary profile; designs originally fitted with moveable/replaceable foresights may only be adjusted before (but not during) the Match. Black Powder or BP-substitute but NOT modern smokeless powder. Originals MUST use Black Powder. Lead projectiles of contemporary design. No loading presses permitted unless the revolver has no rammer. Stainless Steel reproductions are permitted. N.B. This Class does NOT permit specialised tuned revolvers (e.g., Feinwerkbau, revolvers Lothar Walther barrels) or the use of Breechloading pistol or Battery Cup primers. (Class 2) TARGET PERCUSSION REVOLVER: Any pattern of percussion cap (muzzle-loading) revolver fired by percussion caps exploded on a NIPPLE NOT a Breechloading pistol or battery cup (#209) primer. Metallic Target sights, specialised grips and any lead projectile and separate loading presses are permitted. This allows Feinwerkbau and other specialised tuned (expensive!) revolvers, as well as the Ruger Old Army. *** Primer conversions are not eligible. (Class 3) FREE PERCUSSION REVOLVER: any pattern of percussion cap REVOLVER fired by percussion caps exploded on a NIPPLE NOT a standard Breechloading pistol primer or a battery cup (#209) primer. Metallic or optical (non-laser) Target sights, specialised grips and any lead projectile and separate loading presses are permitted. ***N.B. - the Patriot (block-loading harmonica ) pistol is not permitted but it IS eligible in Modern Muzzle-Loading Pistol. The use of two hands to support the revolver is permitted. (Class 4) MODERN MUZZLE-LOADING PISTOL : any pattern of mechanical, hand operated muzzle-loaded repeating pistol or revolver, including metallic Target sights, specialised grips and any lead projectile, using any commercially produced propellant ignited by either a percussion cap or a primer; conversions of percussion revolvers permitted. The Patriot block-loading pistol is specifically permitted. TYPE OF ACTION:- Single Action : a revolver which can only be fired ONE WAY either by cocking the hammer (e.g., Colt M1851 Navy) or by trigger-action only (e.g., the M1851 Adams); Double Action : a revolver which can be fired in TWO different ways EITHER (a) by cocking the hammer or (b) by trigger-action (e.g., the Beaumont-Adams, single- and doubletrigger Tranters); PLEASE NOTE that if a Double-Trigger Tranter or a Savage & North is used in a Trigger Action Match (both triggers being operated simultaneously) that the RCO must be advised and a viewer is required in order to confirm the correct use of the action. *** A true Double-Action Revolver combines BOTH Cocked AND Trigger Actions. *** Treble Action : Tranter s so-called Export Model is eligible in BOTH SA and DA competitions. Selective Action : there is only ONE of this type the Starr double action with the switch behind the trigger: if used the firer MUST advise the RCO which mode has been selected. Hammer (or Cocked) Action : commonly wrongly called Single Action, this is the 19 th Century British terminology. The hammer is raised to full-cock by the thumb and released from the bent by pressure on the trigger. Trigger (or Self-Cocking) Action : commonly wrongly called Double Action Only, this is the 19 th Century British terminology. The hammer is raised and then released from full-cock by pressure on the trigger alone. Mechanical Action : a manually-operated repeating pistol without a revolving cylinder. (Note this is most likely to be of the harmonica type, such as the Patriot.) AMMUNITION:- For all classes EXCEPT Modern M-L Pistol Commercially-manufactured Black Powder or BP-substitute propellant (Pyrodex, Back Canyon, Triple 7 ) as appropriate for the firearms and as specified in the Match Conditions, except that original revolvers MUST use Black Powder. The use of fillers and wads is permitted. Grease at the chamber mouth is NOT required if using wads (this is only mandatory for MLAIC competitions). If Black Powder is used the revolver may be WIPED between each 5-shot series but the bore may NPT be CLEANED between each series. (The use of more than one type of tool / device is considered to be cleaning ) For Modern M-L Pistol any commercially-manufactured propellant ignited by a percussion cap or a primer. ONE HAND or TWO? In an OFFHAND (one-hand support) Match unless otherwise stated, the revolver may be cocked with the free hand but must NOT be supported both hands at the instant of discharge. In an AMBIDEXTROUS Course of Fire to simplify range control and also counting-out in Matches, the FIRST series on the target shall be fired with the RIGHT hand operating the trigger-- the next series being fired with the LEFT hand, with the final score being the total of both series. This allows Free Revolver Matches to include Ambidextrous stages. Free Revolver /Pistol in an Ambidextrous Course, the hand operating the trigger must be the one holding the grip / butt of the pistol. (i.e., the Supporting Hand must not fire the pistol.)
