5 IN THE WIND P22 Thad Duvall won a wet one at the Mountain Ridge GNCC in Pennsylvania. DUVALL GRABS MOUNTAIN RIDGE GNCC VICTORY Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/ KR4/FAR s Thad Duvall captured his first victory of the season at the Car-Mate Mountain Ridge GNCC in Somerset, Pennsylvania, October 4. He openly admits that he doesn t like racing in the mud, but he seems to always shine when it gets wets, and that s exactly what it was at this one, round 11 of the 2015 AMSOIL GNCC Series. Fuelled by the presence of Hurricane Joaquin over the Atlantic Ocean, the Mountain Ridge GNCC was indeed a wet one, but that didn t dampen the enthusiasm of the racers, or the many fans that braved the nasty conditions. Obermeyer Suzuki/Fly Racing/Maxxis Tires Chris Douglas got things started with the $250 All Balls Racing XC1 Holeshot, but Jordan Ashburn on the N- Fab AmPro Yamaha took over the point before the first lap was over. Ashburn then pulled out to a 37-second lead and looked as though he might run off with this one, but Duvall and Grant Baylor had other ideas. Duvall quickly closed the gab on Ashburn and moved into the lead when the Yamaha rider pulled into the pits to replace his rear wheel, the foam insert having shredded itself.

6 VOL. 52 ISSUE 40 OCTOBER 6, 2015 P23 PHOTOGRAPHY BY KEN HILL Baylor, Ashburn s N-Fab AmPro Yamaha teammate, took over second with Ashburn reentering the race in the top five. Baylor then turned up the boost and slowly reeled in the leader Duvall and was just 10 seconds behind him with Duvall darted into the pits for a splash of gas. This gave Baylor the lead but it wouldn t last for long. Duvall chased down Baylor and passed him for the lead, which he held for the remaining four laps. Duvall took the checkered flag nearly a minute ahead of Baylor, who held a comfortable two-minute gap on thirdplace finisher, Ashburn. Going into today s race I was already excited because I tend to ride good in conditions like these, Duvall said. I don t necessarily like riding in the mud, but I always seem to do good. Baylor caught back up to me with two laps remaining and we battled it out, but I felt like I had a lot to give and I ended up in the middle of the box. Ashburn was feeling the heat from behind in the late stages of the race. The Yamaha rider had Rockstar Energy Husqvarna s Josh Strang bearing down him on the last lap but managed to hold the point. Strang finished just five seconds behind Ashburn in fourth but had a comfortable two-minute or so margin on fifth place Chris Bach on the JCR-backed Honda. Ryan Sipes run of wins came PHOTOGRAPHY BY KEN HILL Jason Thomas clinched the XC2 title. to an end at this one. Sipes, on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna, had issues with his handlebars that slowed him down. He still finished sixth in the XC1 class. Absent at the Mountain Ridge GNCC was Kailub Russell. The dominant FMF/KTM rider who has already captured the 2015 championship, is taking time to heal his injured knee, suffered at the recent ISDE. In XC2, Jason Thomas clinched the class championship with a second-place finish, sixth overall. Up to this point, Thomas has had an insurmountable points lead, having already won six races and finishing on the podium three other times. He s only had one bad race all season when he finished 13 th (round four). It s been a long year, and we ve done a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Everyone has been a big part of this, it wasn t just me, said Thomas. Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/ KR4/FAR s Nick Davis ended up taking the win after grabbing the holeshot and battling back and forth with Thomas and Raines Riding University/Atlas Yamaha/ OffRoadViking.com s Ricky Russell. Davis finished more than two minutes ahead of Thomas, who crossed the finish line three minutes ahead of Connecticut s Benjamin Kelley. Kelley made his GNCC debut at the previous round at Unadilla. Factory FMF/KTM s Kacy Martinez captured her 10th Women s-class victory of the season, followed by N-Fab AmPro Yamaha s Becca Sheets in second, and her teammate Tayla Jones came in third for her first podium appearance of the season. 7 IN THE WIND P34 JARVIS STEALS SEA TO SKY WIN After a long season of runner-up finishes, Graham Jarvis came to the Red Bull Sea To Sky the final round of the 2015 Red Bull Hard Enduro series looking for a win. The Bel-Ray Husqvarna Factory racer was determined to defend his number-one plate at the three-day race in Turkey, and stop KTM rider Jonny Walker from taking a grand slam in the Hard Enduro championship. Jarvis succeeded in doing so with a daring move in what was described as an epic battle in Sunday s Mountain Race. After finishing second on Friday in the Beach Race, and third on Saturday in the Forest Race, Jarvis lined up for the Mountain Race seeking a win. In typical Jarvis fashion, he didn t get out to a strong start, but he didn t need to Jarvis had a plan. I knew everyone would be pushing for position early on so I let them get on with it and settled into my own race, Jarvis said. I had a bit of ground to make up after the canyon section. I got up to third after the first fuel stop and closed up on Jonny [Walker] shortly afterwards. I had a trick up my sleeve and gambled on skipping the second fuel stop. I knew the trail afterwards was going to be tight single-track so Johnny Walker was looking to wrap up a perfect season, but had to settle for second in the final race of the Hard Enduro series. Graham Jarvis succeeded in defending his number one plate at the Red Bull Sea to Sky. if I was in front, there would be a good chance I could keep the lead. It paid off and I got in front of Jonny when he was stopped. From there I pushed hard over the mountain. Jarvis risky decision ended up playing out in his favor, as his TE300 two-stroke made it over Olympos Moutain and to the checkered flag without issue. Walker gave his best effort to chase down Jarvis, but couldn t close the gap on his archrival. It always sucks to lose especially with a perfect season to play for, Walker lamented. But I rode a good race. Graham just had more pace over the mountain. I felt like I did almost everything right early on but I knew Graham was on a mission today. Walker might have been able to fight harder for the win, but was riding in pain after a crash in the early going. My start was decent and I made my way into

8 IN THE WIND P40 Factory KTM s Antoine Meo clinched his careerfifth Enduro World Championship, topping the Enduro 2 class aboard a KTM 350. MEO, BELLINO, REMES CROWNED AT EWC FINAL The final round of the 2015 FIM Enduro World Championship took place in Requista, France, October 3-4, where champions were crowned throughout the weekend. Gloomy conditions didn t take away from the celebrations of the newly-crowned champions: Antoine Meo took the E2 championship, Mathias Bellino claimed the E3 title, while Eero Remes clinched his E1 championship with a slam-dunk 1-1 on the weekend. Most of the class champions needed only one day to get the job done: Antoine Meo wrapped up his fifth EWC title by taking a second-place finish on Saturday aboard his KTM 350. After celebrating his championship with the team, Meo hopped on a plane headed to the Morocco Rally where he is currently competing. Meo did not race Sunday, leaving Honda s Alex Salvini to collect top honors only good enough for second in the championship. In much the same fashion, KTM s Laia Sanz dominated the Women s class on Saturday, using her win to seal the championship before dashing to the airport for the Morocco Rally. A second-place finish on Saturday was more than enough for Mathias Bellino to earn the

The Bel-Ray Husqvarna rider could have walked away with a successful season at that point, but went on to win the day on Sunday icing on the cake of a great year. In the Enduro 1 ranks, the championship came down to the final day between Eero Remes and Christophe Nambotin. The duo prepared to do battle on Saturday, with Nambotin making his return to racing since having knee surgery. Racing in front of his home crowd, Frenchman Nambotin was desperate to keep his title hopes alive with a win on Saturday, but he couldn t stop Remes from winning five tests aboard his TM. The Finnish rider held a 10-point advantage going into Sunday s competition, and despite a full day of incredibly close racing, Remes was able to best his rival and earn the championship. It s amazing to finally win a world title, said Remes. I really enjoyed this last round of the series, and I think that showed in my riding. I didn t feel any pressure and rode well. I liked the conditions and won the championship with two day-wins. For Nambotin despite a valiant effort and a fight to the finish the day ended in disappointment. CN KTM s Laia Sanz wrapped up the Women s championship before hopping on a plane for the Morocco Rally.
