4 REGISTERING A VEHICLE In the light of recent bike thefts within the club (Dabbers, Ed.) I ve put together the procedure for getting an age related registration plate for a motorcycle. The process may seem complicated but in reality is relatively straight forward. The advantage of doing this is the bike can then be insured or added to a multi-bike policy. You will need the following:- 1. Dating Certificate 2. Nova Certificate ( Where Applicable) 3. Mot (if applicable) 4. Photographs 5. Completed V55/5 Insurance 6. Insurance 7. Payment of A dating certificate can be obtained by joining a recognised owners club a list of which can be found on the DVLA website, joining the Vintage Motorcycle Club or in some cases manufacturers such as Yamaha will provide one, some will charge for this service. 2. Nova was introduced by the HMRC in 2013 & applies to all imported vehicles. If you have recently purchased an imported bike it should already have a Nova Certificate from the importer. It can be assumed that an older imported bike had the duty paid at the time of import, in this case you need to apply to HMRC for exemption sending your dating certificate with your Nova application. Bikes of British manufacture are not imported and will therefore not need a Nova exemption. 3. If your vehicle is pre 1960 it will not require an MOT as is classified as Historic, as from 20th May 2018 any vehicle older than 8th January 1977 will also be exempt an MOT this will then become a rolling program alongside the Tax exemption. 4. I always send Photos of the Completed bike, Chassis Number & Engine Number, it not a requirement but it does add strength to your application. 5. V55/5, you need to either apply online for the pack or ring DVLA Once you e obtained the form its looks rather daunting you only need to complete the following boxes:- 4

You now need to contact your insurers, requesting that they insure the vehicle on the Chassis number, most will do this for a limited period, 30 days is the norm so make sure you have everything else in place before doing this. 7. You will need to enclose a payment of 5.00 if your vehicle is Historic, if its newer than 1977 you will also need to add the vehicle tax for that cc of motorcycle. What Happens Next The DVLA will now process your application, at random they may send out an inspector to view the vehicle. Don worry about this, they are merely confirming the identity of the vehicle & that it is complete. If they do wish to inspect the bike they will send you a letter & it up to you to then contact the inspection company & arrange a suitable time. There criteria states that the vehicle must be complete and original. The reality is that these guys are only interested in looking at the frame & engine numbers. Cont d On Page 6. 5

ACU PERMIT No: TBA OFFICIALS: CLUB STEWARD: TBA CLERK OF THE COURSE: Richard Challis L/N SECRETARY OF THE MEETING: Nik Beavins, 60 Stablecroft, Springfield, Chelmsford, CM1 6YX JURISDICTION: Held under the NSC and the Standing Discipline Regulations of the ACU and the EASTERN CENTRE, these Supplementary Regulations and any Final Instructions which will have the force of these Regulations. Open to members of the Eastern Fourstroke Association riding Pre-65 solo machines, twinshock machines and EFA Youth members only. COURSE: Approximately 4 laps of 10 sections - multi route course - all on private land. MARKING: As per TSR 22B - Non-stop basis. ENTRIES: To be made on the OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM and forwarded to the Secretary of the Meeting with a fee of (adult), (youth) which includes Insurance Premiums, Licence Subscription and all levies. Please make cheque's payable to the Eastern Fourstroke Association (EFA) If you require the results to be posted to you please supply a S. A. E. Alternatively results will be posted on the EFA website at; ENTRIES CLOSE: Half Hour Before the Start CLASSES: SOLO, Rigid, Pre-unit, Unit, 2 Stroke, Twin Shock & Youth. All solo. ROUTE: Hard / 50/50 / Easy / Veterans Cont d From Page 5. Example: The 1936 AJS I registered had no wiring, no cables & a seat off the James, it was however complete. My advice would be present the bike in such a way that they can get all the way round the vehicle in good lighting & ask them if they want a cuppa! Once the Inspector is happy, he files his report and you should receive your age related plate within 14 days. All that is left to do then is get your plates made up & ring your insurance company with the change of details. The whole process will cost the following; Dating Certificate varies 0.00 (some clubs do it free) DVLA 5.00 Vehicle Mot 9.65 (if applicable) Vehicle Tax 0.00 Historic (others where applicable) In my opinion its well worth doing, all my bikes are on one policy and if John Halfpenny ever fulfils his dream of running a road based Trial you ll be able to take part. The ACU National Sporting Code and Standing Regulations are published annually in the ACU Handbook. Entry declaration: I/we the undersigned apply to enter the event described above and in consideration thereof: I declare that I have had the opportunity to read, and that I understand the National Sporting Code of the ACU, the ACU Standing Regulations, such Supplementary Regulations as have or may be issued for the event, and agree to be bound by them. I declare that I am physically and mentally fit to take part in the event and I am competent to do so. I confirm that I understand the nature and type of event I am entering and its inherent risks and agree to accept the same notwithstanding that such risks may involve negligence on the part of the organisers or officials. I confirm that I am not currently suspended from ACU permitted competition or on the ACU Stop List as a result of incurring a Concussion injury. I accept that insurance arranged on my behalf by the organisers of events that I may enter specifically excludes liability between the participants. I understand that this form may be used in litigation as evidence that any serious injury will be principally the result of my voluntary decision to engage in a high risk activity.
