1 Athletic Event Rules Team Eligibility The teams admissible for the athletic events (soccer, ultimate frisbee on Saturday, volleyball and basketball on Sunday) are those teams that have registered their school with the 2006 MBA Games Committee. Only one team per school is admissible for each sport. Participant Eligibility Participants must be pre-registered with their respective schools and all of the information requested on the registration form for participants must be completed. Persons not registered with the 2006 MBA Games Committee are in-eligible to compete in any events. Game Participants For the athletic events of soccer, ultimate frisbee and volleyball, each team must have a minimum of two (2) female and (2) male participants on the court or field at all times. For the basketball games, each team must have a minimum of one (1) female and two (2) male participants on the court at all times. Any team that does not meet these requirements will have to play with one less player. If this occurs, it is permitted that the opposing team can also withdraw a player. Competition Schedule The schedule for all the athletic events will be provided to each individual upon arrival to the 2006 National MBA Games and will also be posted on the 2006 National MBA Games website after November 15, The Referees At all athletic events, a referee will be present. The referees will be responsible to insure the fair play of each match. Complaints and Disputes All complaints must be addressed to the referees. They have the entire responsibility for the fair play in each event. The decisions made by the referee will be final. Discipline If a player in any athletic event is deemed unfit to participate and is removed from the game, it will be for the entire duration of the match. The team can continue the match only if they have enough players to compete. If the team does not have enough players to continue with the match, the team will be disqualified and forfeit the match. Scoring System For each athletic event, teams will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss, and -1 point for a default. The team with the most points upon completion of the entire athletic schedule will win the athletic section of the 2006 National MBA Games. In the case of a tie in the final results, the tie-breaker will be the percentage of games the school showed up for. If there is still a tie, teams will share the same ranking.

2 Individual Athletic Event Rules Soccer The standard rules of FIFA will be enforced with the exceptions noted below: Time Each game will be 40 minutes long. There will be two 20 minute halfs with a 5 minute half time. Each team will be given 10 minutes of warm up time before the game starts. Time Outs Two time outs of one (1) minute will be allowed for each team, and at the discretion of the referee. Time outs can only be used during a stopped play. Playing Field Games will be played outside on the St. Denis Centre fields. The games will be played in winter weather so teams are asked to dress appropriately. Team Composition Two teams will compete in each match, each team consisting of seven players and one goalie. The player designated the goal keeper cannot cross the halfway line. A minimum of two (2) female and two (2) male participants are required to be on the court at all times. Substitutions are allowed at any time (on the fly), without exceeding the maximum number of players allowed on the field. Each goal scored counts as a point for the team who scored the goal. If a goal is scored in a teams own net, that goal will count towards the other teams score. A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts, and under the height of the goal posts. Game The following are the main rules that will be applied during competition. Please refer to the FIFA guide for the complete set of rules. A coin is tossed before the start of each game. The home team will decide heads or tails. The winner of the toss will decide in which half they will start. The opposing team will start with the ball. After halftime, the teams will change sides of the field and the other team will then start with the ball. At the kick-off, each player must be located on his/her side of the field. The first kick must be a pass forward of the middle line, to a teammate. If a direct free kick or a corner kick is awarded, the opponents must be at least 8 feet away from the ball. There is absolutely no slide tackling. In the event of a slide tackle, a direct free kick will be awarded to the opposing team. When the ball crosses the sidelines, a kick-in will replace the throw-in. The opposing team must be at least 8 feet away from the ball.

3 Ultimate Frisbee The standard rules of Ultimate Players Association will be enforced with the exceptions noted below: Time Each game will be 40 minutes long. There will be two 20 minute halfs with a 5 minute half time. Each team will be given 10 minutes of warm up time before the game starts. Time Outs Two time outs of one (1) minute, will be allowed for each team and at the discretion of the referee. They can only be used during a stopped play. Playing Field Games will be played outside on the St. Denis Centre fields. Fields will be 70 yards by 40 yards with the end zones 25 yards deep. The games will be played in winter weather so teams are asked to dress appropriately. Team Composition Two teams will compete in each match, seven (7) against seven (7). A minimum of two (2) female and two (2) male participants are required to be on the court at all times. Substitutions are only allowed during a time out or after a team has scored. Each time a team completes a pass in the other team s end zone a point will be awarded to the offensive team. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins the match. Game The following are the main rules that will be applied during competition. Please refer to the Ultimate Players Association guide for the complete set of rules. Start of Play A coin is tossed before the start of play. The home team will pick heads or tails. The team that wins the toss may choose which side they would like to start. The opposing team can decide to throw or receive. At halftime the teams will start on the opposing side of initial play and the opposing team will throw the disc. The initiation of play begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defensive team throws the disc to the offensive team. After a point is scored, both teams change sides and the scoring team throws the disc to the opposing team to re-start play. Movement of the Disc The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Once a player receives the disc, they must stop any running action and set up a pivot

4 foot. Players cannot run with the disc. The player in possession of the disc has ten stall counts to throw the disc. The defender guarding the person in possession of the disc counts out the stall counts out loud. If the player does not release the disc by the end of the tenth stall count, the defensive team obtains possession of the disc. Change of Possession When a pass is not completed (ex. Out of bounds, drop, block, interception, end of stall count), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. Fouls No physical contact is allowed between players at any time. Picks and screens are also prohibited. When a player initiates contact on another player, a foul occurs. The penalty is the loss of possession of the disc to the other team. Basketball The standard rules of the Basketball, 2004 Men s and Women s Rules and Interpretation Guide of the NCAA will be enforced with the exceptions noted below: Time Each game will be 40 minutes long. There will be two 20 minute halfs with a 5 minute half time. Each team will be given 10 minutes of warm up time before the game starts. Playing Court Games will be played inside the St. Denis Centre on a standard court. All participants must have indoor shoes with non-marking soles. Team Composition Two teams will compete in each match, five (5) against five (5). A minimum of one (1) female and two (2) male participants are required to be on the court at all times. Substitutions are allowed at any time, without exceeding the maximum number of players allowed on the court. A goal from the field within the three-point line shall count two points for the team into whose basket the ball is thrown, tapped or directed. A goal from beyond the three-point line shall count three points for the team into whose basket the ball is thrown or directed. A free throw counts for one point. The team with the points at the end of the game wins. Game The following are the main rules that will be applied during competition. Please refer to the NCAA guide for the complete set of rules.

5 Walking When the player in possession of the ball touches the playing court more than twice without dribbling the ball. This rule does not apply if the player is doing a pivot, i.e. the back foot keeps its point of contact with the playing court while the other foot is continuously moving in one direction, then in the other. Double dribble When a player dribbles the ball, stops dribbling, then starts dribbling the ball again. A double dribble is also committed when the player dribbles with two hands or, if the player makes a double contact with his/her hands between two dribbles. Carry A violation is committed when a player dribbles the ball at a level higher than his/her shoulders. The player is also considered carrying the ball when dribbling/carrying the ball with his/her palms upwards. Three second rule The players of the offensive team cannot stay more than three (3) seconds in the three second lane. This violation entails the loss of possession of the ball. After each throw to the basket, the count restarts at zero. Bump/Contact Any player that touches the ball bearer without having a position on him/her or, any player that touches the ball bearer while he/she is throwing the ball is in violation of the rules. Charging If the bearer of the ball charges a motionless player of the defensive side, the offensive player will be found in violation of the rules. Volleyball The standard rules of the International Volleyball Federation will be enforced with the exceptions noted below: Time Outs Two time outs will be allowed for each team and at the discretion of the referee. Playing Court Games will be played inside the St. Denis Centre on a standard playing court. The net will be set at 2.24 metres (women s net height). All participants must have indoor shoes with non-marking soles. Team composition Two teams will compete in each match, six (6) against six (6). A minimum of two (2) female and two (2) male participants are required to be on the court at all times.

6 For each rally, there is a point. The team that wins the serve makes a point. The team wins the match if it accumulates 25 points with a 2 point advance on the other team until a maximum of 29 points. Only one match will be played. If the game time reaches 40 minutes, the referee will end the game and the team with the most points will be declared the winner. Game Rules Each team can make up to three contacts before sending the ball on the opposing side; the ball must be hit, not caught and/or thrown. Blocking at the net does not count as a contact. All players are allowed to block at the net. Team players are not allowed to touch the net at any time. Touching the net results in an automatic loss of the point and the serve. All parts of the body can be used to hit the ball. During the serve or a rally, the ball can touch the net and the exchange can continue. Players (both male and female) are not allowed to smash at the net but are allowed to smash from the attack line and beyond. Each team will be given 10 minutes of warm up time before the game starts.
