5 JIMMY DYKES HEAD COACH The most successful basketball programs all have a few key elements in common. PASSION They are passionate about the game. The coaches are passionate about their team, the players are passionate about the opportunity to represent their university and the fans are passionate about supporting the program. EXCITEMENT All successful programs are filled with excitement. They are exciting to watch and to be a part of. COMMITMENT It takes a lot of people to make a program successful and they all have to be committed to the effort. It starts with the coaches and staff and extends to the players but the best programs in the country take it further. Everyone who impacts the program, from professors, athletic trainers, academic coordinators, administrators and fans, all have to be willing to work toward the same goal of excellence in all areas. PERFORMANCE Finally, successful teams have to perform at a high level every day. Whether in the classroom, in the community or on the court, doing things the right way is vital to the program s success. 9 TOUGH START TO SEC SCHEDULE Arkansas faces one of the toughest starts to the SEC schedule for the second consecutive season. Last year, the Razorbacks opened SEC play with three of its first four opponents ranked in the AP Top 15. They were one of just two programs in the Power 5 Conferences to do that. This year, Arkansas again faces a tough start opening the season at No. 2 South Carolina, vs. No. 18 Texas A&M, at No. 9 Mississippi State and vs. No. 14 Tennessee (AP). The Razorbacks also face No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Oregon State, No. 8 Kentucky and Missouri, Georgia and Florida who are all receiving votes this week. Here is a look at Arkansas opponents who are in the RPI top 100: Georgia (7), South Carolina (11), Kentucky (15), Rutgers (16), Missouri (19), Texas (21), Tennessee (29), Oregon State (34), Florida (37), Texas A&M (41), South Dakota State (88) and Missouri State (96). LONE WOLFF Melissa Wolff is the only senior on the team. Named team captain, Wolff s leadership on and off the court will be heavily relied upon with eight newcomers to the Razorback family this year. Wolff led the team in rebounding last year with 7.8 per game and had six double doubles last year, including two in the NCAA Tournament. As a senior, Wolff was a nominee for the WBCA, the NABC and Allstate Insurance Company s 2016 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams. In its fourth year, the Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. From establishing nonprofits that provide youth with the necessary tools to become leaders of tomorrow, to raising awareness around pertinent issues that could save lives, these student-athletes exhibit impeccable leadership skills both on and off the court. MELISSA WOLFF HONORED AS A SENIOR OF SIGNIFICANCE Razorback Melissa Wolff was recognized recently as a Senior of Significance by the College of Education and Health Professions and the University of Arkansas. The Alumni Association has been recognizing the outstanding graduate for more than 50 years. Expansion of the awards program took place in 2014 when the committee selected 71 outstanding Seniors of Significance in honor of the University of Arkansas founding year of Razorback student-athletes represented nearly 13 percent of the entire Seniors of Significance class this year. Hundreds of students were nominated by the faculty and staff on campus. Completed applications were then reviewed by more than 100 alumni and university employees to select the top 71. The Seniors of Significance honored represent the top 2% from the Class of WE ARE FAMILY Several Razorback players hail from large families - especially our newcomers.
