Roster Guidelines 1. Each team will have a captain who is responsible for sending the list of players names, addresses, and phone numbers to the League Secretary before each season starts. The captain is also responsible for recording and checking scores, recording all-star points, calling in the match score, turning in the score sheets for home games, texting or ing a picture of the score sheet for home games, collecting players dues and sponsors fees. 2. The Mid Shore Dart League (MSDL) will use a limited roster during the winter season. Additional shooters, not already on the roster, can only be added if they have not already shot for another team in the League during the present season. Additional players will be added to the team s roster with notification to be sent to the League Secretary as soon as possible. Additional players will not be allowed to shoot for another team during the remainder of the season. A player that does shoot for another team during the season will be considered an illegal player. (See roster guidelines #4.) 3. The MSDL rosters are limited to a maximum of twelve (12) players during the winter season, with a maximum of fourteen (14) players during the summer season. Once a player has shot three matches for the team that they started shooting on, they are considered a roster player and dues are to be collected. 4. If a 13 th (winter), 15 th (summer), or illegal player shows up on any roster, all games won by that player will be deducted from the team s score and awarded to the opposing team. It is the team captain s responsibility to monitor the number of players on his/her team, as well as the number of matches his/her players have played. Special circumstances may be reviewed by the executive board. 5. Each team will be allowed to use a player for two weeks. If that player plays a third week, the player s fee must be paid or that player will be considered an illegal player. Any additional players dues must be paid on the 3 rd week of play for that player or that player s points that have been accumulated shall be forfeited. 6. In order for a player to be eligible for team awards, and to play in any play-off match/game, they must have played at least one-third (i.e. minimum of seven matches in the winter season) the matches of a regular season for the team and have paid their dues. In the summer players must play half the season. 4

7. No one that is under Connecticut s legal drinking age shall be allowed to play darts in the MSDL. 8. A sponsor s fee of $80.00 per season, per team, will be assessed before the beginning of each winter and summer season. In order for a captain to pick up their packet the $80.00 sponsor fee must be paid. 9. If any team s players dues ($20.00 per player) are not received by the Friday following the 2 nd week of the season for 6 players, that team will be assessed a 3 point deduction every week. If the dues have not been paid by the 5 th week that team will be removed from the remainder of the schedule and none of the players on that team will be allowed to play for the MSDL remainder of the season. 10. Any individual, team, or sponsor that owes money to the MSDL from one season to the next will not be allowed to participate in League play until such monies are paid in full. If monies are not paid, said party would be defined as ineligible for MSDL participation until debts are paid in full. 11. Should a team forfeit out of the league before the middle of the season the members of that team will be eligible to play for another team, at the discretion of the rules committee. If dues are owed by this player they must be paid in full before being allowed to switch. 5

Match Format & Game Rules 1. Good sportsmanship should be the prevailing attitude throughout the match and the season. 2. All matches will be played on Thursday nights in the winter and summer seasons. Matches will start at 8:00 p.m., with a fifteen (15) minute grace period to 8:15 p.m. The grace period may be extended only with the consent of both team captains. 3. The captain will enter the team names and date on top of the score sheet, and enter each players names without changes. Once a line-up is posted, no changes will be allowed without both captains consent. Both captains will sign the score sheet at the end of the match, and the captain of the home team will mail the original copy to the League Secretary in the pre-addressed envelopes provided by the League at the beginning of the season. Both captains should retain one copy of the score sheet for their records. 4. Games will be played in the following order: Six (6) individual 301 games, double start/double finish Three (3) two-person cricket games, fall out rule Three (3) two-person 501 games, straight start/double finish Two (2) 301 games will be played at a time. It is the home team s choice whether one (1) or two (2) cricket and 501 games will be played at a time. All 301 games will be completed before cricket games start. All cricket games will be completed before 501 games start. 5. A 301 or 501 game is concluded at such time as a player/team hits the double required to reduce their remaining score to zero. Any and all darts thrown subsequently shall not count for score. During the game, any combination of darts thrown which exceed the remaining score, with the exception of the above mentioned, shall be considered a bust and will not count as score. The score will remain as written prior to that player s turn. There is no bust in cricket games. Fast finishes such as 222, 111, or Shanghai, etc. will not be allowed. Once a dart is thrown which busts the out, any subsequent darts thrown are considered practice throws and are not allowed. Please consider the safety of the chalker. (See Game Rules #24.) 6. Home team decides which two boards the games shall be played on. Home team decides which board will be used for each game. 6

7. No player on either team shall practice shooting on an adjacent board on the same wall while a game is in progress. A player actively involved in a game may not practice shooting anywhere while their game is in progress. 8. Game points will be awarded as follows: 301 = 1 point per game Cricket = 2 points per game 501 = 2 points per game TOTAL MATCH POINTS = 18 points per games 9. This season all home teams will send a picture of the score sheet into the webmaster the night of the match or no later than 5pm the following day. A deduction of 3 pts will be applied to the home teams score if the picture is not received by the time stated above. For example, if the home team wins their match 15-3, they will only receive 12 points if the score is called in late. While the visiting team will receive their 3 points scored. It is suggested that the picture be a clear image of the full score sheet that is signed by both captains. This picture may be sent via text message or , if sending an please also send to the league secretary. Confirmation of receipt will be provided within 24 hours, if you have not received confirmation please contact the webmaster. Webmaster information is provided on page In addition, the score shall be written on the score sheet in the provided space. Score sheets must be mailed within 48 hours in order to keep all-star points up to date. If the league secretary does not receive the score sheet within one (1) week of the match, the home team will receive a permanent deduction of three (3) points from their total score. 11. Any discrepancies in total team scores must be brought to the attention of the League Secretary within two (2) weeks of the posted standings. Discrepancies left unchallenged after the two-week period will remain as posted. It is recommended that both captains take a picture of the white sheet for their records. 12. Coin Toss The visiting team will call the toss of the coin to begin each game. The winner of the coin toss has their choice to shoot for cork first or second. The dart closest to the cork shoots first in the game. Closeness is determined by where the closest exposed part of the dart from the tip touches the bristles. Do not straighten out the dart(s) before measuring. A double cork beats a single cork. All single corks tie. All double corks tie. If a tie occurs, the same players will shoot for cork in reverse order. If the first dart thrown is a single or double cork, that dart may be removed by the chalker at the next player s request. 7

When throwing cork, the dart must remain in the board in order to count. If a bounce out occurs, additional darts may be thrown until a dart remains in the board. If the second player s dart dislodges the first player s dart, a re-throw will be made with the second player throwing first. 13. Either team member may shoot cork. Players must play their game in the order that their names appear on the score sheet. 14. No dart may be touched by the players, scorer, or spectators until a decision is made by the scorekeeper. 15. Should a player touch any dart that is in the dartboard during a turn, that turn is then completed. Any darts previously thrown still score. If a player busts, his/her turn is over. Do not throw additional darts. (See Game Rules #5.) 16. Errors in arithmetic ONLY, during all games, must remain as written unless they are corrected prior to the next throw of the opposing team/player. After that team/player s next throw, mistakes must stand as written. 17. During the game, if a player throws out of turn, his/her score will be removed and the scheduled player will shoot. The player that threw out of turn will forfeit his/her next turn as well. If an error in shooting order occurs that is not reported or discovered before the next player on that team shoots, then the incorrect order must be followed for the remainder of the game. 18. The foul line may extend 24 inches on either side of the center of the Bull s Eye. Players must shoot within this area. The foul line must not be stepped over by the player. The foul line must be 7 9 ¼ from the face of the dartboard to the front of the foul line. The height of the dartboard will be 5 8 from the floor to the center of the Bull s Eye. The diagonal distance will be 9 7 3/8 from the center of the Bull s Eye to the front of the foul line. 19. Footfault Rule and Penalty Any player whose foot extends over the foul line shall be penalized as follows: If a player observes another player with his/her foot over the foul line, that player should bring it to the attention of his/her captain. In turn, the captain will notify the captain of the offending team of the infraction. No penalty will be given for the first offense, but if it occurs on the next or subsequent turns, all throws with the player s foot over 8

the foul line will be counted for no score. Do not interrupt a player at any time during the throwing of darts. Common sense and good sportsmanship should prevail at all times. 20. For a dart to score, it must remain in the board for five (5) seconds after the player has thrown the third dart. 21. The point of the dart must be touching the bristle position of the dartboard in order for that dart to be counted for the score. A dart s score shall be determined by the side of the wire at which point the dart enters the bristles of the board. 22. The chalker calls the turn score and/or the number of hits, and the player must verify it before pulling their darts. 23. Do not call out scoring mistakes/changes while a player is shooting. Bring the mistake/change to the attention of the chalker prior to him/her marking the next player s score. 24. For the chalker s safety, let the chalker finish calculation before a player starts to throw. 25. All chalking shall be done on a scoreboard in view of the players, not behind the foul line out of view of the players. 26. Chalkers do not call out the score of thrown darts or the score remaining, unless asked to do so. The chalker may not inform the player what he/she has left in terms of number combinations or double outs. The score will be written as the number of points left and not the double finish left. 27. Do not talk or move about while keeping score REMAIN STILL. Do not look at the player on the line and stand facing the scoreboard. DO NOT LEAN OUT TO SEE WHERE A DART IS OR FOLLOW THE DARTS WITH BODY OR HEAD MOVEMENTS. 28. When chalking, do not show signs of disgust or excitement while a player is shooting. 29. Members from opposing teams should alternate as chalker for each game. Be considerate. 30. Again, good sportsmanship should be the prevailing attitude throughout the match and the season. 9

All Star Points and Awards 1. All Star points are to be recorded on the score sheets in the columns provided (far left column for home team and far right column for visiting team). Remember to use a ballpoint pen on the score sheets since you will be creating three copies. 2. The following breakdown constitutes all star points and describes how to record them: Ton ( T ) A ton is scored when the three darts thrown during a player s turn in 301 or 501 games add up to 95 points or more. The total score hit should be recorded on the score sheet (i.e. 95 through 99, T for an even 100 points, T-01 for 101 points, T-02 for 102 points, etc.) Ton 80 A ton 80 is achieved by scoring a triple 20 with all three darts during a player s turn and should be marked clearly on the score sheet. High In Anytime a player hits double in to start 301 games only, and the total score for all darts thrown during this player s turn adds up to a reasonably high number, it should be noted on the score sheet as a high in. Please keep in mind that as the season progresses, high in s for each division are updated weekly on the League standings mailed to the team captains. If a player s score does not exceed the high in previously listed for his/her division, please do not indicate a high in on the score sheet. However, a player may still receive a ton score or higher to be included in his/her all star tabulation. High Out Anytime a player hits a double out to finish either a 301 or 501 game and the score for all darts thrown during the player s turn adds up to a reasonably high number, it should be noted on the score sheet as a high out. Please keep in mind that, as the season progresses, high outs for each division are updated weekly on the League standings mailed to team captains. If a player s score does not exceed the high out previously listed for his/her division, please do not indicate a high out on the score sheet. However, a player may still receive a ton score or higher to be included in his/her all star tabulation. Cricket All-Stars All stars during a cricket game are scored when the darts thrown during a player s turn score six or more hits that count on the scoreboard either toward closing numbers or toward accumulating points. Some examples of cricket all stars and how to record them on score sheets are as follows: Triple 20, triple 19 Triple 19, single 18, double 18 Triple 17, triple 16, single 15 Triple 20, triple 19, triple hits 6 hits 7 hits 9 hits Remember that the hits must count on the scoreboard. For example, your team scored two single 20 s during their first turn and the opposing team closed 20 s on their turn. If your next player shoots a triple 20, it will only count as one hit to close the number.

Any dart thrown exceeding those needed to win a game do not count as hits towards allstars. 6 Dart 301 Game If a player shoots a 301 game in 6 darts from finish (a perfect game), make special notation on the score sheet. 3 Corks - If a player shoots 3 or more corks during his/her turn in a cricket game, this should be noted on the score sheet. Mark the number of corks hit, such as 3corks, 4 corks, etc. Awards For awards qualifications see Roster Guidelines, paragraph 6. Individual trophies will be awarded for the following all-star points each and every season: All ton-80 s All 9 Hits All 6 Corks All perfect 301 games One High In champion per division, One High Out champion per division, One All-Star champion per division (the individual with the most all-stars at the end of the regular season). These individual division trophies are determined at the end of the regular season. 11

Cancellations & Forfeits 1. Game cancellations, due to weather, will be decided by the President of the League. Notification of cancellations will sent through and available on the website by 6:00 p.m. on the night of the scheduled matches. Team captains should check to verify, and then notify their team players accordingly. 2. If cancellation of a match is necessary, due to conditions other than the weather, it is the responsibility of the team captain to notify the opposing team s captain and the opposing team s pub. The opposing team captain may invoke the forfeit rule, (item 4) if he/she has not been called in a timely manner. It is solely the responsibility of both team captains to reschedule the match. The rescheduled match should be made up within six (6) weeks of the original match date or the match will be considered a forfeit. There will be no rescheduling within the last four (4) weeks of the regular season. The President of the League reserves the right to reschedule the match, within season, if necessary. If teams have not made up the match within the required time and the forfeit rule is not invoked, zero (0) points will be awarded to both teams. 3. If a home team becomes aware before the day of the match of their bar's inability to host, they have until 6pm on the day of the match to source a new home venue (must be another league bar). If they become aware the day of the match, it falls under the 15 minute grace period rule to start a match, meaning 8:15pm to announce the new venue. If a new home bar cannot be sourced by the home captain, the match will take place at the visiting bar provided that bar is capable of hosting (not already booked with enough league matches that it is at max capacity or has a conflicting event). If this change to the visiting bar occurs in the first half of the season, the executive board may, at it's discretion, call for a switch in the home/away schedule between the two teams to "make up" the match for the original home bar. If neither option above is possible, the match must be rescheduled prior to the following Thursday to not disrupt the balance of the league schedule. Any further issues with rescheduling should be brought to the attention of the executive board for resolution. 4. If both teams are at the bar in which the night s match is scheduled to be played and one team does not have the required four (4) players to play the match a score sheet will be filled out and signed by both teams. The score sheet will notify that a forfeit has been given. The score shall be called in, a picture will be sent in to the webmaster and the score sheet will be mailed in, in accordance with the rules. 5. Teams forfeiting will receive zero (0) points for their scheduled match. Teams receiving the forfeit will be awarded either a minimum of 10 points or the team s average, whichever is greater; or, if the forfeit is after the halfway point in the season, the team receiving the forfeit 12

will be awarded the opposite average loss of the team forfeiting. For example, the team forfeiting has a total of 22 points, divided by the number of weeks played, (11), giving that team an average of 2 points won per week. The team receiving the forfeit will then be awarded 16 points. If a team forfeits out of the League before the midway point of the season, all teams having played or scheduled to play the forfeited team shall be awarded 10 points for those matches. All teams having played the forfeited team shall have their total team scores recalculated, receiving 10 points against that team. 6. Any match may be shot short-handed to avoid forfeits. A minimum of four (4) legal players is required in order to play a match. If there are fewer than four (4) players, the match must be forfeited. When writing the roster for the night s match, the short-handed team must list their available players in a row so that absent player s position is at the end of each round of games. For example, a short-handed team has 4 available players. The first four (4) 301 positions must be filled. The first four (4) cricket positions must be filled. The first four (4) 501 positions must be filled. No team will be allowed an advantage for arriving to their match shorthanded. If a team arrives with only five (5) players, that team will be allowed to play the first five (5) 301 games. That team will be allowed to play the first two (2) cricket games with two (2) players each, and for the third cricket match, that team may challenge the opposing team s two (2) players with their remaining one (1) eligible player, however that player will not be allowed to shoot his/her absent partner s turn. The same would apply in the 501 games, in which the short-handed team may play against the opposing team s full complement but will not be allowed to shoot the absent team member s turn. 7. Any team that forfeits five (5) matches during the winter season and three (3) matches during the summer season will not be allowed to play the remainder of the League season. This team shall forfeit any and all player s fees and sponsor s dues paid to the League for that season. (See Roster Guidelines.) 13

Discrepancies & Grievances Guidelines 1. The Rules Committee will settle any disputes or questions that the captains of the disputing teams cannot resolve. 2. Any disagreements between players which are not specifically covered in the Rules, and which can not be settled by those players, captains, shall be settled by the Rules Committee with both opposing captains in attendance, but only after any/all other options are exhausted. If the disagreement is not covered by the Rules, the Rules Committee judgement shall stand. If a settlement can not be reached at this level, a decision shall be made by the League officers. No members of the Rules Committee or any League officer may vote on a decision if their team(s) are involved. 3. The Rules Committee is responsible for reviewing rules upon written request or upon filing of a protest. All changes in rules must be decided upon by the beginning of any season. 14

Winter Season Play-off Guidelines 1. The Mid Shore Dart League play-offs will use an 18-point match system. Line-ups will be prepared in the regular fashion and the same line-up will be used throughout the entire match until one team reaches 18 points. The match ends when one team reaches 18 points. In the interest of time, games will be played as follows: 301 games will be played two at a time. The first two cricket games will be played at the same time, followed by the third cricket games to be played singly. Once the cricket games are complete, the first two 501 games will be played at the same time. The third 501 game shall be played singly. This format will be adhered to until one team reaches 16 points. The remaining games will be played one game at a time. 2. A player is eligible to participate in a play-off match only if that player is a roster player as defined in Roster Guidelines, #6. The home team is responsible for calling in the scores and mailing in the score sheets. 3. There will be one B division winner, one C Gold division winner and one C Silver division winner. Each division winner will be awarded the Travelling Trophy for their sponsor to display for the following year. 4. At the end of the season, there will be one Thursday off prior to play-offs starting. 5. The top four (4) teams from each division will play-off for their division s travelling trophy. 6. The top four (4) teams in each division will be seeded as follows: First Place seeded #1 Second Place seeded #2 Third Place seeded #3 Fourth Place seeded #4 7. The matches will be played as follows: Week 1: The fourth seed will play at the first seed. The third seed will play at the second seed. 15

Week 2: The winners of Week 1 will play each other for the division championship. The highest seeded winner from Week 1 will be the home team. Week 3: The two (2) C division winners will play each other for the C League Championship. Week 4: The C League champion will play the B League champion for the MSDL Championship. 8. Week 3 and Week 4 matches will be played at a site to be determined as follows: On the Sunday following Week 2 play-off matches, the two C Division champion captains along with two Executive Board members, will meet to conduct a coin toss to determine the site for the C League championship match. Site and time of the coin toss will be determined amongst those involved. The winner of the coin toss shall be the home team. On the Sunday following Week 3 s play-off match, the C League champion captain, the B League champion captain and two Executive Board members will meet to conduct a coin toss to determine the site for the MSDL championship match. Site and time of the coin toss will be determined amongst those involved. The winner of the coin toss shall be the home team. The Play-off Guidelines will be reviewed each year in order to accommodate League growth. 16
