Big Blue will take on Morehead State Thursday, Feb. 7 with tipoff set for 6:35 p.m. CT on ESPN+. } The Tigers finished its fifth week of Ohio Valley Conference play 2-0 with a dominating win over SEMO in the Gentry Center Saturday, Feb. 2. } TSU is now tied for seventh in the league. Morehead State sits alone in the sixth spot. } After an Eagles win in Music City earlier this season, the Tigers are down in the all-time series against Morehead State. } Morehead State split its last week of conference play, kicking it off with a loss to SIUE, and closing it out with a win over Eastern Illinois. Jordan Walker leads the Eagles in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game, Lamontray Harris leads the team in 8.2 rebounds per game and is second on the team averaging 13.5 points per game. TENNESSEE STATE NEWS AND NOTES } } LAST TIME OUT } Emmanuel Egbuta led the Tennessee State men s basketball team to a dominating win over Southeast Missouri. The junior forward scored a career-high 19 points and pulled down six rebounds. }The Tigers pulled together a first half riddled with three-point shots (6-of-12) while shooting a season-best 58.6 percent from the field, resulting in its largest lead at the half against a Division I opponent this season, }SEMO shot out of the gates after the break, improving its shooting by almost 20 percent, giving the Tigers a tough battle in the second half. The Redhawks outscored their first period efforts by 10, but a late push by Egbuta and freshman guard Dave Morris, outlasted SEMO s bench (17 points in the second half), to win TSU s second Ohio Valley Conference game in-a-row, LAST MATCHUP WITH MOREHEAD STATE } Kamar McKnight led the Tigers scoring 19 points in the loss to Morehead State. } Armani Chaney was the sole Tiger to register an assist, and tied for his season-high six, while leading TSU for the ninth time this season. Kamar McKnight scored in double digits for the ninth time, leading TSU for the fourth time, second in-a-row. }Dave Morris (11) and Michael Littlejohn (10) also recorded double-digit points. }Stokley Chaffee, Jr. tied for his season-high four blocks. MSU scored 21 points off of TSU s 20 turnovers. Big Blue had 42 points in the paint, and had 35 points off the bench. TSU scored 42 points in the second half. The Ole Miss transfer had a career-high 26 points versus Lipscomb, and has led TSU in scoring in eight of 16 games played. CHANEY READY TO LEAD } TSU s most experienced player is senior point guard Armani Chaney, who suffered a knee injury in the Tigers last game versus UT Martin. } In his game at Vanderbilt, Chaney scored a season-high 16 points, leading the team in points, as well as assists (3) and steals(2), and has managaed to put up double-digits in three-of-the-last-six games. } Chaney scored the first points for TSU in the games verus Vanderbilt and TTU with a wide-open three, and put the Tigers on the board with a layup versus Morehead State. } The Chicago native has now led the Tigers in scoring for two games this season, and led in assists for eleven. } The 5 10 Chicago native is one of just four returners in the Ohio Valley Conference who averaged 3.5 assists or more per game last season, and now averages 3.0. } Chaney dished out 111 assists (3.7 per game) a year ago. The Tiger is on pace to do the same with 61 so far this season, leading TSU, and ranking 15th in the league. 3

4 TENNESSEE STATE NEWS AND NOTES, CONT. } } DOUBLE F, DOUBLE EE - CHAFFEE } The senior is ranked top 15 in four categories in the OVC: rebounding, blocked shots, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds. } Chaffee, Jr. has notched double-digit rebounds in two games: } at WKU - 10; vs. Carver - 13 CHAFFEE ON THE RISE } Stokley Chaffee, Jr. an Oakland, Calif. native, averaged 3.9 rebounds per game in his inaugural season with the Tigers, making him the leading rebounder amoung TSU s returners. } This season, Chaffee led TSU in points (13), rebounds (8) and blocks (1) at Tennessee Tech, and has led TSU in rebounds for 13 games this season. STAYING LOCAL } The roster contains five players from Tennessee - Donte Fitzpatrick Dorsey (Memphis), Tripp Davis (Nashville), Demarcus Mitchell (Memphis), Jy lan Washington (Smyrna) and Jalen Duke (Nashville). BUZZ } TSU men s basketball has been gaining interest at the local and national levels. } A four-person dunk sequence featuring a passes from Tripp Davis, Donte Fitzpatrick- Dorsey, Kamar McKnight and Emmanuel Egbuta on photo day gained more than two million views on twitter and instagram. } A dunk from Egbuta in the Oct. 31 exhibition game was also picked up by SportsCenter s snapchat. } At TSU s Big Blue Madness, Head Coach Brian Penny Collins dunked twice, including a windmill, creating a buzz on social media. DESERVE TO WIN } First-year TSU Head Coach Brian Penny Collins has dubbed Deserve to Win the theme for this year s team. } It is a philosophy that encompasses every aspect of the program from work in the weightroom to how the coaches and student-athletes interact with the community. WHY PENNY? } Head Coach Brian Penny Collins got his name as a kid. Collins, born in Memphis, moved to Nashville as a young pre-teen. In honor of his favorite college and NBA player, Penny Hardaway who played in his hometown, Collins would sport the Magic jersey while on the court. The name stuck. } Collins claims both Memphis and Nashville as his hometown, as he was born in one, and raised in the other.
