2 January 26, 2018 C.G.S.A.A BOYS AND GIRLS 2018 STATE TOURNAMENT C.K.GLOVER INVITATIONAL 6 TH, 7 TH, AND 8 TH GRADES Web site- School Athletic Directors and Principals, The C.G.S.A.A. cordially invites your school sanctioned teams to attend this year s Catholic Grade School Athletic Association s C.K. Glover Invitational Basketball Tournament. The tournament will be held in Oklahoma City on March 1st - March 4 th...tulsa teams and teams that will travel large distances will be scheduled starting on Friday. There are sheets included in this packet: the cover sheet, entry form/roster, sit down rule, the rules of the tournament and a verification sheet to be signed and returned with the entry form/roster. Take time to read the entry form and all requirements for this year s tournament. Our league rules are posted online and should also be read. Please distribute this information and entry form to the appropriate people to assure your team s entries. No team will be allowed to enter the tournament after the deadline of Friday Feb 9 th, Your entry fee must accompany your entry form in order to enter the tournament. You will not be considered in the tournament unless the entry form/roster, CGSAA rules verification and payment are received. Any fees and entry forms post marked after February 9 th will be returned. Make certain your principal signs the entry form and rules verification for each team. Any problems with coaches, parents, and players will be addressed with the principal of the school. If you have any questions concerning the tournament, please contact me at (405) during the day or evening. Please be sure you put your record on the entry form and 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade. Also, please seed the tournament as to the 8 best teams in your grade based on what you know from playing in Tulsa league, Tulsa Tournament, etc. or any insight the head coach may have. We anticipate another spectacular tournament this year and we hope your school will come join in the fun! 3 Tournament Information and Rules 1. Rules of play for this tournament will be the rules as adopted by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, CGSAA league rules, unless different from below. CGSAA rules are available online at 2. All players must attend the school they represent. All players must play on a team in your Catholic Conference during the regular season or your team will not be eligible to participate. If your school does not have a conference provided for you, then this rule does not apply. However, all players must be from your school and shall have played on the Roster all of the present season and must be approved by the school principal. 3. The team bench will have a maximum of 2 coaches, 1 scorekeeper and the team players. All others must be in the stands. Only players and coaches are allowed on the floor. 4. Rule Change. Two teams from the same school may not combine for the tournament. The teams must be the same roster as the regular season. 5. The 6 th grade participation rule is waived for this tournament but would encourage all coaches to play all their players. 6. Mixed teams must play in the upper division. EXAMPLE: A team with three 7 th graders and five 6 th must play in the 7 th grade division of the tournament. A child cannot move up more than 1 grade. 7. All team rosters must be signed by the school principal to validate student enrollment and eligibility. 8. The tournament will have a consolation bracket, so every team is guaranteed at least two games. 9. You must return the team roster with entry fee to be included in the tournament. 10. Trophies will be awarded for the 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and consolation. First place and second place winners will receive individual awards. 11. There will be no gate fees. 12. Because of time constraints, game time will be forfeit time. NO EXCEPTIONS 13. Once you have completed your game, please vacate the bench area so the next team can get ready to play. 14. No disparaging remarks directed towards referees, players, coaches, or tournament officials will be tolerated. If this occurs the offending individual will be asked to leave the school premises. If he/she refuses, the team that person is affiliated with will forfeit the game. Noise makers are not allowed in the gym. No bells, whistles, horns, banners etc. 15. Any coach ejected from a game will have to leave the gym. Any player who is ejected from a game will remain on the team bench. Their behavior is the responsibility of the coach. Failure to control the player or leave the gym if ejected will result in forfeiture of the game and elimination of their team from the tournament. Any coach, fan, or player ejected from a game will face a minimum of a one game suspension. Any player ejected for fighting will face a minimum of a two game suspension. Any coach or fan ejected for fighting will be suspended indefinitely. All game suspensions are to be served for the next scheduled games. **NOTE: Coaches are responsible for the team and fans behavior!**

4 16. While the ball is in play, coaches must remain in their seats on the bench except for a spontaneous reaction to an outstanding play. Violations of this rule are subject to the official s interpretation and may result in technical fouls being issued against your team. A technical counts as a team foul. No spectator, player or coach shall approach the officials after a contest. NOTE: The officials are there at our request to ensure the integrity of the game. If your coaches have a problem with an official, they must make sure they bring their problem to attention through the proper channels. All requests from coaches, fans, and players should be brought to the CGSAA Basketball Commissioner or Head of Officials through the school s representative or athletic director only. Never approach officials after the game with complaints. Doing so will result in ejection from the gym and a minimum 1 game suspension. 17. T-shirts and sports girdles must match the primary uniform color. (This is the main color and not the trim color. If you have reversible jerseys you must also change the t shirt color as it applies.) 18. Legal uniform numbers include (0 or 00) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. Numbers other than those listed are considered illegal and will result in technical fouls being charged against your team. Numbers must be on the front and back of all jerseys 19. Game balls will be provided, however, you must provide your own warm-up balls. No warm-ups allowed except on the gym floor. DO NOT warm up in lobby areas. NOTE: 6 th grade boys will play with 28.5" basketballs. 20. You must have 5 players to start a game. The 6 th grade games will be played in 5 minute quarters and 2 minute overtime periods. The 7 th and 8 th grade games will be played in 6 minute quarters with 2 minute overtime periods. 21. All 6 th grade teams will not be allowed to press once they have attained a 10-point lead. 7 th and 8 th grade teams will not be allowed to press once they have attained a 20-point lead. This will include inbound and rebound balls, as well as turnovers. 22. Make sure your players names and # s are correct in the official score book. If two teams have the same color jerseys, target jerseys will be used for the home team. The home and visiting teams will be decided by a coin toss. 23. Anyone caught slam dunking or hanging on the rim or net before, during, or after a game will be suspended for that game plus his/her next game. 24. All rulings made by the CGSAA Basketball Commissioner and Tournament Officials are final. No protests allowed. NOTE: Neither the CGSAA nor the participating gym facilities accept any liabilities for personal injury occurring during the tournament at any gym location. (The 6 th grade participation rule does not apply to this tournament but would encourage all coaches to play all their players.)

5 SIT DOWN RULE While the ball is in play, coaches must remain in their seats on the bench except for the spontaneous reaction to an outstanding play. If you must discuss something with the official, please do so during a time-out or quarter break and only by the Head Coach. Violations of this rule are subject to the official s interpretation and can result in technical fouls being issued against your team. This is the CGSAA rule. The only exceptions are stated the NFHS Rule Book as follows: SECTION 5 COACHES RULE ART. 1...The head coach must remain seated on the bench at all times while the clock is running or is stopped except to: a. Rise and stand in front of his/her seat to signal players to request a time-out or to call a time out. b. Confer with personnel at the scorers table to request a full-length time-out for a correctable error. c. Confer with personnel at the scorers table to request a full-length time-out to prevent or rectify a timing or scoring mistake or an alternating possession mistake. d. Replace or remove a disqualified/injured player, or player directed to leave the game, within 30 seconds when a substitute is available, while within confines of his/her bench. ART. 2...The head coach and assistant coach(es) must remain seated on the bench at all times while the clock is running or is stopped except to: a. Confer with bench personnel and players within the confines of the bench area during a charged time-out or the intermission between quarters and extra periods. b. Attend an injured player when beckoned onto the court by an official. c. Rise in front of their seat to spontaneously react to an outstanding play by a member of their team or to acknowledge a replaced player(s), but must immediately return to their seat. THIS IS THE EXPLANATION FOR THE SIT DOWN PORTION OF THE TOURNAMENT RULES. WHEN IN DOUBT STAY SEATED.
