1 2016 NCAA Women s Lacrosse Rules Survey: Executive Summary PURPOSE The NCAA Women s Lacrosse Rules Committee has developed this survey to obtain feedback from head women s lacrosse coaches from all NCAA member institutions, as well as officials, senior woman administrators, and conference commissioners regarding rules changes implemented during the 2016 season. The results from this survey seek to provide the NCAA Women s Lacrosse Rules Committee with detailed information on the respondents opinions and suggestions regarding the new rules, potential experimental rules for the 2016 fall season, and general feedback regarding the rules and rules book. The exemption of goalkeepers from obstruction of free space to goal (hereinafter referred to as shooting space ) (see Rule 5, Section 22). Goalkeepers may not take the draw or be positioned between the restraining lines during the draw (see Rule 5, Section 22). Goalkeepers may not shoot or score on the opposing team (see Rule 5, Section 22). The elimination of the throw and the implementation of alternate possession for offsetting fouls (see Rule 5, Section 23). The pocket depth check of the goal-scorers stick after each goal (Rule 5, Section 32). The random selection of 5 crosses per team for measurements for the overall length of the stick and the distance between the sidewalls as outlined in Appendix E, Section 11 (wooden stick) or Section 18 (plastic head). The issuance of a nonreleasable yellow card for the illegal manipulation of a stick and/or the illegal stringing of a stick (see Rule 5, Section 30). The change of a three seconds violation from a major to a minor foul with the penalty administered at the spot of the ball (see Rule 6, Section 2(a) and Rule 7, Section 18). Excluding incidental stick checks during 50/50 balls from the minor foul, empty stick check (see Rule 6, Section 2(c)). Eliminating body ball as a minor foul (see Rule 6, Section 2 (g)). Changing the boundary of the critical scoring area from the 15m to the 12m (see Rule 8). The addition of the dots to the field markings for the administration of free positions below the goal line extended and in the critical scoring area (see Rule 1, Section 9, Rule 7, Section 2, and Rule 8). The player who received the subsequent yellow card is released if a second goal is scored. When an alternate possession is awarded, if the goalkeeper is in the Critical Scoring Area, should the goalkeeper be permitted to return to the goal circle?
