2 Montclair Hockey Club Mission Statement The Montclair Hockey Club endeavors to teach children that commitment, perseverance, and passion are what transforms dreams into goals realized; this process of achieving should be fun; how one conducts oneself in this process is as important as achieving the goal itself. Teamwork, fair play, and respect for others on and off the ice are what define a true champion. Our programs stress the development of skills and teamwork that will create a solid foundation for any hockey player. Our Philosophy Youth Hockey is about the players and MHC takes a relatively unique position in this regard. We understand winning is important and everyone from our coaches to the players want to win but we must also remember that winning in youth sports is not the ultimate goal; it is a means to an end. MHC focuses on the development of each player s skill level, character, sportsmanship and passion for the game. To accomplish this, we emphasize teamwork, respect for others, and overall having fun. Our Facility Home rink is Floyd Hall Arena, which is a state-of-the art twin ice surface facility, situated on the campus of Montclair State University. The facility is easily reached from the Garden State Parkway, Route 46, Route 3, and Interstate 80. Our Coaches Each season, the Montclair Hockey Club puts together a highly experienced staff of coaches. Our coaches are all experienced and have the hockey knowledge and skating ability to develop your children in the sport of hockey. Some have played professionally, some at the collegiate level, some are local high school coaches, many still continue to play today, all are focused on helping players become better hockey players. General Information Travel team hockey is an intensive level of competition comprised of teams organized according to USA Hockey-sanctioned age levels. The Montclair Blues participate in the New Jersey Youth Hockey League (NJYHL), as well as the Mid Atlantic Women s Hockey Association (MAWHA). Our travel teams typically play games throughout the tri-state area. Each team practices twice a week and on average play one home game and one away game per weekend. Our home rink is Floyd Hall Arena but some teams may end up with some home practice or game slots at other local arenas. For the 2018 season, player tuition covers: Uniforms, Conditioning Camp, Practice Ice, Home Game Ice and Tournament Fees (club pays entrance fee for up to 2 tournaments). Bantam and Midget hockey involves body checking, whereas Pee Wee, Mite and Squirt level does not. Team members are selected after the tryouts. Attendance at all tryout sessions is strongly encouraged; missing a tryout session puts an applicant at a disadvantage and will only be permitted at the discretion of the Travel Director. Full hockey equipment is required, both for the season and for tryouts. A copy of the enclosed application form must be completed. This can be done either on-line or using this paper copy.
3 Montclair Hockey Club Fees & Payment Schedule The early registration tryout fee is $150 if received by MHC with a completed application by the Sunday before the tryouts begin. Applications received after those dates will be charged $200. If you are not a current member of MHC, you must include a copy of your USA Hockey Membership card. Tryout fees must be paid in full prior to the first tryout date and are non-refundable. Registration can be completed and paid for online at: American Express, Discover, Visa, MasterCard and PayPal are accepted online. Paper applications and tryout fees can be sent to: Montclair Hockey Club, PO Box 43302, Upper Montclair, NJ If you are selected to play on a Montclair Hockey Club travel travel team at our tryouts, one half of the total 2018/2019 season fee is due prior to the first team meeting scheduled within one week of tryouts. The balance will be due by September 1, Players accepting a roster spot are considered a part of the club. Players electing to leave the club prior to the start of the season will not be granted a refund. Injuries do not qualify a player for a refund. Starting September we will have 2 practices per week with periodic additional on ice skills sessions and supplementary off Ice training. Second showcase tournament expected around Columbus Day weekend. Each team will select their own third tournament for later in season. Mite Program The Montclair Hockey Club adheres to the USA Hockey (USAH) - America Development Model (ADM) where the players play and practice on smaller ice surfaces. Games are played 4 on 4 on ½ or cross ice surfaces. Practices are station based with 6-8 players per station. Players are rotated through each station. Our Mite teams participate in a District run local Jamboree that evaluates each team and places them against other travel clubs with similar skilled teams. Teams are made up of both male and female players. Team sizes (no. of players) are kept small to enhance development and increase number of repetitions in games and practices. Goalie equipment is available for those players who would like to dress as a goalie in games and/or practices throughout the season. For more information on USAH ADM model please visit
