1 THE BULLSHOOTER A NEWSLETTER FOR THE FORT WORTH TRAP & SKEET CLUB October 2007 Available in color at Bob Kelly (bob@rwk-architecture.com); Jamie Becker (jbecker1225@yahoo.com); and Wayne Arendsee (warendsee@yahoo.com) We ve all noticed that the days are getting shooter and that means that the shooting fields are getting crowded. Your time is limited during the work week and so is mine. We come out to the club to shoot for fun, or to practice that menacing bird, to decompress from the work day, or to visit with old friends or to make new ones. The club membership is growing each month. We ve gone from hovering at 300 members to 400 in the blink of an eye. The growing pains begin. You were used to parking your car, grabbing your gun, and walking out to your favorite field. You dominated that field for hours...you and your buddies. That isn t going to be the case any more. You are going to have to share the field, wait in between rounds, or shoot with people you haven t met before. This is a members club and all members have equal rights to the fields. Just because you got there first and wanted to shoot 100 targets doesn't mean that you have the field to yourself. We don t have enough fields for our members to be unyielding in their behavior.. We have Erad shooters, Canterbury shooters, and shooters that need a trap technician. You have a choice, when you see people that are eager to shoot, invite them to join you or move over. Saturday, September 29, 2007: The Annual Club Fun Shoot & Business Meeting Sixty-nine shooters participated in the annual club shoot with a mere thirty-four sticking it out for the business meeting and buckle awards in the evening. The weather was great with plenty of sunshine giving most of us a slight red tint and reminding us that we should have lathered up with sunscreen. (Isn t summer over??) Some shooters arrived early hoping to take advantage of cool temps; yet others showed up after lunch time with a goal of participating in fewer events. There seemed to be a breeze all day which made the day quite enjoyable. Several new members participated in their first annual club shoot. We hope you enjoyed yourselves!! Several of the more seasoned members showed up to shoot. We ve missed you and hope the time you spent with your shotgun and your ole buddies has rekindled your desire to shoot more regularly. Our trap technicians worked exceptionally hard and we applaud them for maintaining a pleasant demeanor throughout the day!! They were assigned to pull and score on designated fields and rarely got a break in between squads, as it was then they had to load the machines. Several, if not most, of the boys worked throughout lunch as the crowd of shooters was constant. However, their work didn t end when the business meeting started, as then they had to perform their end of day tasks like loading the houses for the next day with targets from the barn, emptying the trash barrels, and shutting down the fields for the evening. THANKS for doing a superb job guys!!!! David Weeks remains High All Around Club Shooter. When asked how many years in a row he has won, his reply was I haven t been counting. Congratulations David..Great Shooting!!!!!

2 Page 2 A ROUND THE CLUBHOUSE. Matt Cliff, 19 year old real smart fella. Matt admits to being a crappy shooter preferring to play Nintendo Wii. His beauty pageant answer for his career goals is: to be a positive figure in society and have an impact on the way people treat each other. (I think the judges should crown him alright!!) Matt enjoys drawing, painting, acting, playing the guitar, singing and listening to music. Someone should check to see if he has a valid passport from the skeet side! Steve Landsfeld preparing to shoot. Steve has volunteered to be the Club Skeet Chairman. Trap High Over All ~ Bill Lanier The shooters gather under the shade trees and waited for fields to open. With 69 shooters participating, there was some wait time in between events. Shooters utilized that time to visit with one anther, eat their free lunch and stay hydrated.

5 Photos From The Annual Club Buckle Shoot ~ September 29, 2007 David Daw shooting with our new club secretary, Rob Wilson Wilbert Prather competed in all six events. He was merciless on skeet doubles but won the buckle for the last event he shot that day: trap handicap from the 25 yd line. The skeet shooters are proving they can play both games! Matt Sprague and Jim Disharoon watching the skeet targets and preparing to shoot. Richard McCater taking his low 8 shot followed John Devnew. Kirk, our trap technician turned skeet referee, pulled consistently for all squads. Good Job, Kirk! THANK YOU to the roughly 80 members, just over 20% of the membership, for opting in to receive their club newsletter via . Sign up now to receive your copy of the Bullshooter via . Send an to editorfwts@yahoo.com mention you want to receive your copy electronically. Sending the newsletter out via will save a tree somewhere and save the club money on printing cost. It is also easier on the volunteers who have to fold, tape seal and address the paper version!!!! Have a heart & save us from paper cuts.

When our trap technicians spotted the camera pointing their way, they turned on the charm. (L-R) Marcus, Kirk, Brent, and Mason. Proving that charm isn t limited to youth...mike Hynes & Gene Ragle.

7 August 23, 2007 FFL services were provided by the staff & owners of Cash Advance Pawn. Jason & his brother Nelson Alberts handled the paper work for twenty-eight guns at our banquet! Tom Tenseth imitating Vanna White and showing off the Smith & Wesson 460 S&W caliber revolver he sponsored. The revolver auctioned for $1600. WOW ~~ What an evening. BBQ was served by Coburn s in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards and two hundred people were there talking about guns! Could there be anything better? When it was all said and done and the bills were paid, nineteen thousand dollars had been raised for the Friends of the NRA Foundation. A success beyond our imagination. We could not have accomplished this without your support. Thank you for attending the banquet and for participating in the numerous pre-event gun raffles, and for bidding on our auction items. Special thanks to the club members and league shooters (Rob Wilson, Chad Lee, John Devnew, Tracy & Gene Ragel, Shawn & John LeFleur, Mary & Jeff Morrow, Ken Rucker, Wayne Arendsee, Bill Green, and of course Brent & Tony) who volunteered their time to host this event which benefits the shooting sport through education and safety. Just think that is an additional $19,000 that will be added to the grant funds available for gun clubs across the United States and in North Texas to apply for! Our goal remains the same...to write a grant proposal to assist the FWT&S Club 4H program! (Do we have any grant writers in the club?) The Friends of the NRA Foundation presented Jamie Becker ~ Committee Chairman a thank you plaque.

League President Dan Houghton hamming it up while announcing the winners. Maggie and Wayne Arendsee digging into the chicken meal that Wayne cooks for the Monday night league. Yummy! What makes Mike Parr smile? Retired, Mike has a fun job working part time at Cabella s in the gun room. Mike was the High Skeet Winner for the Monday Night League. Monday Night League First Place Team with a record of 25/5 was captained by Jim Painter with squad mates of Dan Houghton, Greg Huse, Joe Mcilveene, John & Shawn LeFleur. The Dead Last Team had a record of 8/22 and was captained by Bill Lanier. Show me a pair Doubles shooter Bill Lanier and wife, Shannon. Bill took home the High Trap Trophy for the Monday Night Summer League. Chris Moranha continues to dominate the flurry fun event.

9 THE BULLSHOOTER A motley crew of our 2007 Grand American Trap Shoot attendees. ATA Rule Change: The 2008 Target Year will run from September 1, 2007 to October 31, The 2009 Target Year, and target years thereafter, will run from November 1 October 31. The new target year will become effective November 1, 2008 meaning there will be a 14 month lead in time Grand American Trap Shoot, Sparta, IL. Representing the club and Fort Worth, TX were Bob Evans, Melvin Wiley, Henry Warlick, Jerry Ulmer, John Scott, Janice & Don Weeks, Joe Julien, Pam & Bart Walker, Joe Sharp, James & Vicki Jennings, Jamie Becker, Randy & Stella Hunt, Ron Cunning, and Andrew Reed. Our ole buddy Steve Taylor was there too! The heat and humidity were obviously a factor for all of the shooters with temps in the hundreds and the mercury hitting 109 degrees one day! It was reported that the medics transported 14 shooters to the hospital for heat exhaustion in one day alone. Luck of a random draw, Jerry Ulmer was one of fifteen shooters selected to shoot in the Federal Premium Ammunition give away. Five shooters in each yardage group competed in a miss & out shoot off. Jerry who broke a 55 earlier this year in a handicap event has managed to turn his game around. He won this fun event in his class and was awarded a prize of 24 flats of Federal Ammunition!! Henry Warlick Bart & Pam Walker Pam won the High Lady Trap award at the Club Annual Shoot. Shooting against a 27 yd line shooter, Don Weeks won the Grand American Nitro 27 Senior Vet Handicap after 50 birds. His score of 95 won him an attractive wood box with a Remington Damascus blade folding knife. Don Weeks

10 Page 10 P RESIDENT S POST Wow, where to begin? This will be my last President s post as I will be coming off the Board the end of September. It has been a whirlwind year at the club with many changes and improvements. The new Point of Sale (Quickbooks) system was implemented and is light years ahead of our old sales and inventory system. Thanks to many hours of hard work by our Treasurer, Wayne Arendsee, we now have a system that is both accurate and dependable. We can t make sound financial Dan Houghton decisions for our organization without sound information as to where we currently stand. We can now do that moving forward with the click of a few buttons! Our new manager, Tony is fully up to speed and doing a fine job. Brent has taken on the Assistant Manager position which wasn t even in effect this time last year. The Trap boys (and girl) have stepped it up a notch under the new manager and assistant manager. We have added additional target storage so that during times of pitch shortage we ll be better prepared. We have held several successful registered trap and skeet shoots this year and the youth Fandango shoot was simply awesome. And last month the Fort Worth Trap and Skeet club put its money where its mouth is and hosted a Friends of the NRA banquet. Jamie Becker did an amazing job putting it together and it was a smashing success. We accomplished all of this while having a record number of members currently at over 390. All and all it has been great year and I am pleased with our progress and it has been my pleasure to serve the membership on the BOD. Now it is time for me to step back and do a little more shooting. I need to work on my scores and go hunting! However, I leave you all in good hands and I m sure the upcoming BOD will prove to be even more successful for the club with the projects already underway. I guess with that there is only one thing left to say Pull!

11 THE BULLSHOOTER Page 11 F ROM YOUR BOARD Wayne Arendsee and Ms. Liz Alexander have made great strides this year implementing our new point of sales computer system and the inventory tracking system. However, it is still in its infancy and we are experience growing pains with some aspects. Brent has removed our website forums due to internet attacks of pornography. We have seen a turn over of staff with our trap technicians appropriately with the coming of age and the pursuit of a college education. The Annual Meeting was held on September 29, The Board of Directors had several members that wished to serve a second term therefore the only new person elected is Larry Nelson. We welcome Larry and look forward to tapping his strengths! The Officers are: Ron Cunning, President Bob Kelly, Vice-President Wayne Arendsee, Treasurer Rob Wilson, Secretary Tom Tenseth Safety Officer Jamie Becker Membership Ron Cunning Welcome New Members: Please welcome the following new or returning members to the club: Lonnie Mears, Joseph Wm. Gene Colvin had surgery on his rotator cuff. Please keep Johnny Moore in your thoughts and prayers as he undergoes some procedures the first week of October. Did you know that renewing your NRA membership at the club will cost you the same amount. However, our club receives $5 of that money back from the NRA. Thank you and the National Rifle Association for supporting our 2nd Amendment and our hobbies! 1 year Membership cost $35.00 and as a member you select one of the following magazines to receive: American Rifleman, American Hunter, or America s First Freedom. 1 year Junior Membership is $15 receiving the magazine Insights. 15 THE BULLSHOOTER Page 15 A Real Cajun Recipe for Bread Pudding (Don t even THINK of substituting anything for tasteless, fat-less, calorie-less, pseudo-food! You ve already committed yourself to making and eating a dessert, so don t insult the generations of Cajuns that have worked hard to perfect this recipe.) Preheat oven to 375 o F. Soften ½ stick butter, and coat the inside of a 9 x 13 pan. Mix: 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 quart milk 1 Tablespoon vanilla Tear up 1½ loaves of bread, and put into the mixture. Mix thoroughly, then let soak for 10 minutes. Mix in a small handful of raisins and then pour into the pan. Sprinkle a few more raisins on top and then bake for 45 minutes. While it s baking, mix together ½ stick of melted butter 1 cup of whipping cream 3 Tablespoons of sugar When the 45 minutes is up, remove the pan from the oven, and raise the temperature to 425 o F. Pour the butter/cream/sugar mixture over the top of the pudding. Bake for an additional minutes. Let the pudding cool a little so you don t blister the inside of your family s mouths, but do serve it warm, it s better that way. Enjoy! Please keep Cecil Harrison in your thoughts and prayers as he undergoes chemotherapy. Cecil is a former member of the State Skeet Team and competed recently in this years Cowtown Open. Showing diversity, he can often be spotted shooting this gold tone speckled stocked gun in club trap shoots. Cecil has served on the club Board of Directors as Treasurer. We re pulling for you buddy!!!!
