4 Prince Albert Raiders Game Notes RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders ran into some tough goaltending on Wednesday when Calgary came to town. Calgary netminder Evan Johnson stopped 36 of 38 Raider shots and had some help from the post and crossbar as the Raiders had several shots rattle off the post. Craig Leverton scored two goals for the Raiders but it wasn t enough as the Hitmen defeated the Raiders 4-2. VERSUS SEATTLE: This is the only meeting between Seattle and Prince Albert this season. Seattle is in P.A. for just the first time in two years. RAIDERS NAME NEW HEAD COACH: Marc Habscheid has been named the Raiders 14 th Head Coach. Habscheid, who hails from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, has an extensive playing and coaching career at many levels, including the NHL. As a player, he was a member of the Blades and Kamloops Junior Oilers from and was a 6 th round NHL draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers in Habscheid would play 345 games in the NHL for the Oilers, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Calgary Flames from As a player he also represented Canada twice internationally at the 1988 Olympics and 1992 World Championships. He also played in the AHL and overseas before retiring in Habscheid s coaching career started in the SJHL with the Melfort Mustangs. He then went on to be the Head Coach of the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL from before taking over the Kelowna Rockets as Head Coach from including winning the Memorial Cup in with current Raider Assistant Coach Kelly Guard as his goalie. In 2003 he was named the CHL Coach of the Year, the same year he coached Canada at the World Junior Championships. He was then named by Hockey Canada as an international coach, winning gold at the World Championships in 2004 and silver in He served as an assistant coach for the 2006 Olympics. Habscheid then was an Associate Coach with the Boston Bruins of the NHL in the season before returning to the WHL to be the Head Coach and GM of the expansion Chilliwack Bruins from including the transition year of that organization when they moved to Victoria to become the Royals in After the 2012 season he joined the Royals parent company GSL Holdings in an executive role and has been ranching south of Swift Current. MORRISSEY NAMED TO SUPER SERIES ROSTER: Josh Morrissey was selected to represent the WHL at the 2014 Subway Super Series which takes place next week. This is the second year in a row that Morrissey has been selected. DEBDEN DANGLER: Craig Leverton is lighting the scoreboard up this season. Last season in 50 games, Leverton had 8 total points; this season, he already has 18 points through 18 games and currently leads the green and gold in scoring. 11 of his 18 points have come on the powerplay. RAIDER MOVES: The Raiders claimed 20-year old forward Marcus Messier from free agency on October 23 rd to fill the remaining over-age spot on the roster. NOTABLES: Several Raiders are contributing to the scoreboard Craig Leverton leads the team with 18 points while Sawyer Lange (16), Jordan Tkatch (14), Jayden Hart (14), Josh Morrissey (12), and Reid Gardiner (10) aren t far behind on the team s leaderboard. SIGN ME UP: The Minnesota Wild signed 19-year-old blue liner, Hunter Warner to a three-year entry-level contract. Hunter was invited to Minnesota Wild camp as an undrafted free agent. NON-CANADIAN CONTENT: 17-year-old Simon Stransky of the Czech Republic was selected by the Raiders 24 th overall in the 2014 CHL Import Draft; he joins 19-year-old defenseman Tomas Andrlik as the team s second import player. In addition, the Raiders also boast players from the U.S. including 19-year-old forward Gage Quinney, from Las Vegas, Nevada, and 19-year-old defenseman Hunter Warner, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. DRAFT HISTORY: The Raiders had two players selected in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, German-born Centre Leon Draisaitl was selected 3 rd overall by the Edmonton Oilers and defenseman Mackenze Stewart was selected 186 th overall by the Vancouver Canucks. Draisaitl becomes the highest drafted German-born player in NHL history and is just the third Raider to be selected in the top 5 (Mike Modano, 1 st overall in 1988 and Chris Phillips, 1 st overall in 1996). This also marks the fourth consecutive season a Raider has been drafted, following Josh Morrissey (Winnipeg in 2013), Mike Winther (Dallas in 2012) as well as Mark McNeill (Chicago) and Harrison Ruopp (Phoenix) in UPCOMING GAMES: The Raiders continue their home stand for two more games. The Raiders face Regina on Wednesday Nov. 12th (Las Vegas Vacation Giveaway Night) and Moose Jaw on Friday Nov. 14 th. They then hit the road for one game in Swift Current on the 15 th and return home to rematch the Broncos on the following Friday.

5 Seattle Thunderbirds Game Notes Last Game The T-Birds defeated the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday at ShoWare Center. Justin Hickman had both T-Bird goals in regulation and scored the shootout winner. Hickman was the only shooter to score in the shootout. Taran Kozun had 37 saves and stopped all three Red Deer shooters in the shootout to get the win. Jerret Smith, Turner Ottenbreit, Matthew Barzal and Ethan Bear had assists in the win. David Musil and Brooks Maxwell scored for Red Deer. Rylan Toth had 32 saves in the loss. T-Birds Road Trip The game against Prince Albert is the first of six for the T-Birds against the East Division. They play the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday, November 8, the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday, November 12, the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, November 14, the Regina Pats on Saturday, November 15 and the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday, November 16. Flodell Reassigned Prior to the game against the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, November 1, goalie Logan Flodell was reassigned to the Nipawin Hawks of the SJHL. Flodell had a record this season in one game with a 3.10 goals against average and a.925 save percentage. Volcan Heading To World Under-17 Challenge Left wing Nolan Volcan is at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge as a member Canada s Team Black. The 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is taking place November 2 to November 8 in Sarnia and Lambton, Ontario. Volcan has played in three games so far and has two assists. He had the primary assist on the Black s first and fourth goals against Team White on Monday in a 5-4 overtime loss. The tournament is the first to feature three Canadian national teams Black, Red and White. Volcan has played in 13 games this season and has a goal and three assists. Volcan was the T-Birds second round selection, 27 th overall, in the 2013 Bantam Draft. T-Birds prospect defenseman Dante Fabbro will also play for Canada s Team Red. The countries taking part are Canada Black, Canada White, Canada Red, Finland, Russia, Sweden, Slovakia and the United States. Theodore with the Admirals Defenseman Shea Theodore is currently with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL on a conditioning assignment. Theodore, from Aldergrove, British Columbia, suffered an elbow injury at the training camp of the Anaheim Ducks. He was assigned to the Admirals on Wednesday, October 29, by the Ducks. Theodore was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, 26 th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft. Last year Theodore appeared in two preseason games with the Ducks. Streaking Birds Nolan Volcan, who is currently at the U17 tournament, has a three-game point streak with a goal and two assists in the last three games he has played with the T-Birds. No other T-Bird currently has a point streak. Wardley Returns Defenseman Evan Wardley returned to the lineup Saturday against Vancouver after serving a seven game suspension for receiving a checking to the head major and a game misconduct on October 11 in Portland. Leading Scorer Mathew Barzal leads the T-Birds in scoring with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 16 games. Barzal has a point in nine of the last 14 games. Goals For Gropp Ryan Gropp is tied for the team lead in goals scored with seven. Gropp is tied with Barzal. Gropp had a seven-game point streak, four goals and four assists, this season, which is the longest T-Bird point streak this season. Gropp has 12 points this season. Kozun Keeping Them Out Goalie Taran Kozun has a record in 14 games this season. He is fourth in the league in goaltending with a save percentage of.920 and a goals against average of Kozun made a season high 39 saves in the 4-1 loss to Spokane on October 15. He had 16 saves in the second period and 13 saves in the third period. Top 6 Penalty Kill The T-Birds have the sixth best penalty kill in the league with an 83.3% success rate. They are 55 for 66 on the penalty kill so far this season with two shorthanded goals scored. Barzal and Kolesar have the shorthanded goals. Four With Two Four T-Birds have scored two goals in a game this season. Justin Hickman had two goals against Red Deer on November 4. Lane Pederson had two goals against Edmonton on October 30. Justin Hickman had two goals against Spokane on October 24. Ryan Gropp had two goals against Portland on September 19. No T-Bird has yet registered a hat trick. Four For Hickman Hickman s four points against Spokane on October 24 was the first time in his career he has had four points in a game. This is also the most points by a T-Bird in a game this season. Hickman has four goals and eight assists in the last 11 games.
