2 Dallas Stars Management & Coaching Staff JOE NIEUWENDYK - GENERAL MANAGER Joe Nieuwendyk enters his third season as general manager of the Dallas Stars. He was named as the 10th general manager in Stars franchise history on May 31, In his first season with the Stars, Nieuwendyk began putting his vision for a hockey club to work by signing veterans Stephane Robidas, Loui Eriksson and Steve Ott to contract extensions, and trading for (and then re-signing) goaltender Kari Lehtonen. The former Stars player returned to Dallas as GM from the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he served as special assistant to the general manager in Prior to joining the Leafs and after his 2006 retirement, Nieuwendyk worked as a special consultant to the general manager with the Florida Panthers. As assistant general manager, he also helped lead Team Canada at the 2009 IIHF World Hockey Championship when the team won a silver medal. A veteran of 20 seasons as a player in the National Hockey League, Nieuwendyk played seven with the Dallas Stars ( ). He won the Stanley Cup for three different teams, in three different decades (Calgary in 1989, Dallas in 1999, New Jersey in 2003). Nieuwendyk was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs most valuable player in 1999 when he led Dallas in postseason scoring on their way to winning the Stanley Cup. The Whitby, Ontario, native played in 1,257 career NHL games (which ranks 62nd all-time) for five different teams (Calgary , Dallas , New Jersey , Toronto , and Florida ). Nieuwendyk scored 564 goals (21st all-time) and added 562 assists (84th all-time) for 1,126 points (51st overall). He scored 51 goals in his rookie season in Calgary, which ranked second at the time for most-ever goals scored by a rookie in one season (that mark now ranks fourth). Nieuwendyk won the Calder Trophy for rookie-of-the-year that season. He achieved two 50-goal seasons, two 40-goal seasons and four 30-goal seasons during his playing career. A four-time NHL All-Star, Nieuwendyk also appeared in 158 career playoff games, recording 116 points on 66 goals and 50 assists. Nieuwendyk played in 442 games for Dallas, scoring 178 goals and 162 assists for 340 points. Nieuwendyk played three seasons at Cornell and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist in for outstanding collegiate player of the year. He was drafted by Calgary in the second round (27th overall) of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Nieuwendyk (born 9/10/1966) and his wife Tina have three children, Kaycee, Tyra and Jackson. The family resides in Dallas.

3 Dallas Stars Management & Coaching Staff GLEN GULUTZAN - HEAD COACH Glen Gulutzan was named the 21st head coach in Stars franchise history on June 17, 2011 after spending the last two seasons as the head coach of the Texas Stars, Dallas primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Gulutzan guided Texas to the AHL Playoffs in both seasons and coached the club to the Calder Cup Finals in the franchise s inaugural season of Gulutzan, 40 (born 8/12/1971), served as general manager and head coach for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL from 2003 to He complied a record of (.650) and collected 100- plus points in three consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2008, a first for any team in the 21-year history of the ECHL. Gulutzan took the Wranglers to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2008 and to the Conference Finals in In , Gulutzan was recognized as the ECHL Coach of the Year. He led Las Vegas to the playoffs in five of six seasons, including their expansion season ( ) when the team went for 93 points. In addition, he was selected to coach in the ECHL All-Star Game three times. He led the Wranglers to the division crown in back-to-back seasons in and Gulutzan has missed the playoffs in only one season as a head coach and holds a perfect 5-0 record in game sevens in the playoffs. Before beginning his coaching career, Gulutzan played professionally in Europe for two seasons and joined Fresno of the West Coast Hockey League in , setting a team record with 80 assists and 110 points in 60 games. He spent a total of six seasons with Fresno, including the last four as player-assistant coach from Gulutzan also played in the International Hockey League with Utah and Las Vegas, as well as stints in Finland and Sweden. In 1996, he earned a Bachelor s degree in Education from the University of Saskatchewan. Gulutzan graduated with a major in Kinesiology and minor in Mathematics. Glen and his wife, Nicole, have four children - son, Landen, and daughters, Emma, Brielle and Grace. 4 Dallas Stars Management & Coaching Staff WILLIE DEJARDINS - ASSOCIATE COACH Willie Desjardins enters his second season as associate coach for the Dallas Stars. Desjardins, 54, spent eight seasons as head coach of the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) and also served as general manager of the club from He won the WHL Championship with Medicine Hat in 2004 and Desjardins coached the Tigers at the Memorial Cup Tournament in those two seasons and was runner-up at the 2007 Tournament. The native of Climax, Saskatoon, won a gold medal as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championships. Desjardins was named head coach of the Canadian national team in the 2010 World Junior Championships and earned a silver medal. He has won National Championships in Asia, Europe and North America. During his time with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Desjardins posted a collective regular season record and a record in the playoffs, and each of his teams have qualified for the playoffs when he has started the season with the club. Desjardins and his wife Rhonda have three children two hockey players in Brayden (17) and Jayce (11), and a gymnast in Sheehan (15). PAUL JERRARD - ASSISTANT COACH Paul Jerrard begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars after spending the past six seasons being affiliated with the Stars as an assistant coach with the team s primary development affiliates. Jerrard, 46, spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach working with Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan and the Texas Stars (AHL). He helped the club reach the AHL Playoffs in both campaigns, including the Stars run to the Calder Cup Finals in the franchise s inaugural season of The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native boasts a decade of coaching experience, including two years as an assistant coach with Pennsylvania s Hershey Bears of the AHL prior to joining the Dallas Stars organization as an assistant with the Iowa Stars (AHL) for three seasons ( ). In , Jerrard was responsible for video as the Colorado Avalanche s assistant coach. He also coached for four years at his alma mater, Lake Superior State University. Prior to joining Lake Superior State, Jerrard spent one year as Assistant Coach with the Lowell Lock Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, in Jerrard spent 10 years as a defenseman in professional hockey, having been drafted by the New York Rangers in the ninth round (173rd overall) of the 1983 Entry Draft. He was traded to the Minnesota North Stars in October of 1988 and skated in five games for Minnesota that season. Jerrard played parts of six seasons with Kalamazoo (IHL) and was a member of the 1997 Calder Cup winning Hershey Bears. Jerrard is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and member of NSCA. Paul and his wife Cheryl have two children, Meaghan and Catherine. MIKE VALLEY - GOALTENDING COACH Mike Valley enters his third season as goaltending coach with the Dallas Stars. He spent the season as an assistant goaltending coach for the Nashville Predators/Milwaukee Admirals and as a volunteer goaltending coach for the University of Wisconsin, his alma mater. Valley played six years of professional hockey ( ) after initially being signed as a free agent by the Vancouver Canucks following his sophomore year of college. His career includes stints in the AHL, ECHL and Swedish Elite League. In 2005, he returned to the University of Wisconsin to complete his bachelor s degree in Communication Science and Rhetorical Studies. Valley is originally from Richmond, B.C.. He and his wife, Holly, have two daughters, Madeleine (8), and Emily (6).
