I understand why they went to a d system for barrels but I personally would not care for it in a roping system. I beleive the handicap system evens the playing field enough that it gives everyone a chance to win and strive to be better and to always try to improve their roping skills. Sloan Keihl: I've only been able to come to one of your ropings, but I don't really like the idea of the 4-D system for the breakaway. It seems like nothing more than a "luck-of-the-draw" system. For example, one of the Open ropers could make a poor run (for his or her ability) and still win the 2-D. Or one of the C's could make an outstanding run (for his or her ability) and be right under the 4-D winning time and win nothing. Other than the 1-D, it's just luck. If the handicap system needs adjusting, I suggest tinkering with the "seconds off" to get things right. Les Bullard: It would be nice to try this in the tie-down also maybe combining 3 numbers at a time and having a 4-5D format maybe changing the alloted times or by doing a flighted system in 1 sec. numbering. Where as the fastest time sets the flight and then add one sec to each group for payout for example. Fastest time 9.02 is the 1D and anything over is the 2, is the 3 etc. paying out anywhere from 1 to 3,4,5 etc per D depending on the number of ropers. With the right size cattle you could let everyone rope togther and have one heck of a saddle roping and let the new guys rope the same cattle and tims as the tops in the world. Rayford Glover: I think the way you that you are doing it now is good until after joe`s i would it it on one of your smaller ropings. just a thought RG Toni Rhodes: This is really a tough issue. There is no way to make it totally fair and make everyone happy. I think you have been doing a great job so far. I think the 4D might be good, but it is fine with me the way it is now. The 4D would remove the need to handicap the ropers. If you go to the 4D, I think it would be better to use the handicap numbers for the 4D ( 2D plus.25 like an A roper, 3D plus.5 like a B roper and 4D plus 1 like a C roper). That way more top times would be paid. However you do it, if Brian and I can make it to a roping we will come. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the conversation.
