On December 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m women and a few brave men gather for a unique and fun afternoon of fashion, food and prizes! The latest styles from Wrangler and Rock and Roll Cowgirl will be showcased by models who are Wrangler NFR Contestants and wives. The amazing lunch is hosted by Michael & Paula Gaughan. Vendors from Cowboy Christmas, Country Christmas and Cowboy Marketplace show their support for the event by donating hundreds of fabulous drawing prizes. Silent and live auctions add excitement to the event! For the seventh year Martin Saddlery has teamed up with Sherry Cervi to donate a beautiful Sherry Cervi barrel saddle to help raise money for JCCF. Tickets are a $10 donation and will be available at the PRCA booth at Cowboy Christmas and at the luncheon. Tickets for the luncheon are available at the South Point box office and at the door. Thanks to all who sponsor and support this important fundraiser, which has raised more than $1.15 million to give injured rodeo professionals A Hand Up. 2 NEWS AND NOTES The Justin Copeland Memorial Ho Down in Townsend, Montana was created in memory of cowboy Justin Copeland who was lost at a young age in a car accident. Thanks to Justin s mom Brenda, the first annual event raised $3500 for JCCF! Cory and Nikki Wall organized a silent auction at the Kit Carson Pro Rodeo and raised $2000 for JCCF! The Bounty Bull program at the Dodge City Roundup raised $3000 for JCCF. The Tucson Rodeo continued it s tradition of giving to JCCF by making a $1250 donation. Jim Hallstrom raised funds for JCCF through taking his vintage coinoperated pony rides to rodeos in the Northwest resulting in a $1035 donation. The Chris LeDoux Memorial Foundation donated $1000 to JCCF. Pendleton Golf Tourney Nets $9000 for JCCF The annual Cowboy Memorial Golf Tournament was held Sept. 10th in Pendleton, OR at the beautiful Pendleton Country Club Golf Course. Cowboys and golfers came together for a fun afternoon of golf and raised $9000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The tournament was established in 1990 in memory of plane crash victims Mike Currin, Dave P. Smith, David Bowen and Randy Dierlam, who died with pilot Bob Card on a rodeo trip to Alberta. The tournament has raised more than $100,000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund since its inception. The 2012 tourney was better than ever under the leadership of Tournament Directors Kris Smith and Brian Currin. Fun was had by all during the four person scramble followed by a tasty lunch and great prizes. The winners walked away with beautiful Montana Silversmiths Buckles! Thanks to everyone in Pendleton who support this event and the memory of some great cowboys! 3 BOB TALLMAN S CHARITY BOWLING We are gonna take off the boots for a few hours and switch to bowling shoes to support kids and cowboys at the WNFR Celebrity Bowling Tournament, to benefit Speedway Children s Charities and the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The tournament will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the Gold Coast Casino and Hotel, with the first ball being rolled at Noon. The event will bring together rodeo and racing fans to bowl for charity and meet cowboys and cowgirls in town for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, as well as a variety of other new and well-known celebrities. Teams will compete for a variety of prizes, as well as bragging rights. Rodeo committees that field a team will be up for the committee trophy sponsored by Boyd Gaming! A silent auction and prize drawings will add to the festivities. Teaming up with the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund to organize this fun event is Speedway Children s Charities (SCC). Making a difference in a child s life is the focus of Speedway Children s Charities. SCC strives to do this in collaboration with the non-profit organizations it supports nationwide. Individually, SCC s local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them. Last December, the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children s Charities granted $314,000 to 67 local children s causes during its annual grant distribution ceremony. Crown Royal Every ride counts for the Crown Royal Riders during National Finals Rodeo. For every qualified ride by bull rider Cody Whitney, Crown Royal will donate $1,000 to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. This year, rodeo fans have a chance to get involved too! Crown Royal will distribute safe ride taxi vouchers to consumers 21+ to ensure fans are making it to and from the Thomas & Mack Center safely. For every voucher redeemed, an additional donation of $10 will be donated to the JCCF. Last year Crown Royal donated $10,000 to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund! The Crown Royal Riders thank rodeo fans for their support and remind adults to please drink responsibly. Jim rode rough stock & Janie ran barrels. Their son also rode roughstock and their daughter ran barrels. During that time they saw many serious & life threatening injuries to the cowboys. A lot of those injuries happened to close friends of theirs. With the use of the chute pad many of those injuries may have been prevented. Had the chute pad been available when they were producing rodeos they would have taken advantage of the chute pad and utilized it. They have pledged a $100 donation for each chute pad set sold to PRCA rodeo committees. 7 JCCF CALENDAR OF EVENTS November 23-25, Mesquite, TX 9th Annual Thanksgiving Rodeo School The 9th annual Thanksgiving rodeo school will take place at the Mesquite Rodeo Arena on November 23 through November 25, 2012 to benefit JCCF. Four Time National Finals Rodeo Bareback Qualifier Wes Stevenson will bring together some of the top PRCA bareback, saddle bronc and bull riders to offer this unique opportunity to those who wish to learn from the best! 8 A hand up, not a hand out Pro Rodeo Drive Colorado Springs, CO Cindy Schonholtz, Program Manager Phone: Fax: jccfinfo@prorodeo.com JUSTIN COWBOY CRISIS FUND With no guaranteed salaries or injured reserve provisions in the sport of rodeo, these professional athletes are often left with no place to turn when faced with serious, sidelining injuries and the accompanying financial hardship. Recognizing that serious injuries can be traumatic enough without the additional burden of financial worries, the Justin Boot Company formed a partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) in 1989 to establish the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF). The JCCF s premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries. The fund fills the void of financial hardship when the inevitable serious injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport. Assistance awards are based on the severity of injury, the number of dependents and the applicant s financial situation. The Fund also takes into consideration the individual s involvement in and/ or contribution to the sport of professional rodeo. Unique among today s numerous charitable organizations, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund stands above the rest by dedicating 100% of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants. This uncommon practice for a charitable organization is made possible by the joint commitment of the Justin Boot Company and the PRCA, which underwrite all administrative costs associated with managing the JCCF, leaving all monies received through contributions (and as investment earnings) to serve their intended purpose. It s a hand up, not a hand out.
