2 Welcome... Welcome to our 9th Annual On Track Bull sale. It has certainly been an exciting past 12 months here at Soo Line. Last year we had the most successful bull sale ever held here on the ranch. It was rewarding seeing a few of our bulls being purchased by AI studs and so many bulls going to repeat and local buyers alike. A recent major change at Soo Line was the decision to put all of our energy and effort towards one breed and the decision was made to disperse the Red Angus herd. I must say it was thrilling to have one of the greatest Red Angus Dispersal s in recent history. We are now able to solely focus on the genetic advancement and management of our Black Angus herd and we feel we will be able to offer our customers a larger selection of bulls that will be disciplined to hopefully be among the best in the land. We are living in exciting times as beef producers. We are experiencing the highest prices in beef cattle that we have received in a very long time. Be excited and ready because it is only going to get better. We all know that it is about time and we certainly deserve it. Make sure you have the cattle, quality and pounds to sell. 5 Terms of Sale... Breeding Guarantee - All cattle are sound and right, and all with a responsible breeder guarantee of satisfaction. In the event of any unlikely dispute, the regular terms and conditions, standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply. Warranty - Soo Line Cattle Co. guarantees to sell you a bull that is structurally sound and has passed a semen test performed by a licensed veterinarian. Should the bull fail to perform as a satisfactory breeder - unable to service a cow or heifer, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. If this is not possible an adjustment will be made to refl ect the value of the bull or credit will be given towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee to provide you with a breeding bull for the season. We will not however provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. With this in mind, we cannot stress enough the importance of insurance on your bull purchases. Insurance - Insurance agents will be available sale day, or you can make other insurance arrangements through your own agent. Soo Line Optional Insurance Program - This year we will once again be offering an in house breeding season warranty program for our customers. Soo Line will warranty your bull and carry all risk. We believe that using only Mortality Insurance is of little value because most bull problems are injury, not death. If problems arise, we will resolve it by either replacing your bull, or refunding your money - your choice. You deal with us, not an insurance adjuster and there are no hassles and no disputes. Should you have any problems with a bull contact Soo Line directly at and we will handle the problem immediately. Your veterinarian and you will fi ll out a claim provided by Soo Line Cattle Co. and that is all that is needed to take care of your claim. We offer the following options: Option 1 - Duration - 3 months - Rate 4% Option 2 - Duration - 6 months - Rate 6% Option 3 - Duration - 12 months - Rate 10% Insured Responsibility: 1. Notify Soo Line Cattle Co. of any problem immediately by phone or fax Employ a licensed veterinary to treat, diagnose and fi ll out the claim form. If the animal dies, a post-mortem may be required. 3. When necessay deliver the bull, back to Soo Line Cattle Co. Coverage - In case of loss, Soo Line Cattle Co. will not be responsbile for anything above the price of the bull. We will provide full coverage if something happens to your bull. The following are some examples: Acts of God, lightening, fi re, collision - vehicle or train, injury while being transported, injury to the bull making him incapable of breeding cows, naturally, etc. Options 1 and 2 cover 100% of the pruchase price less salvage value when possible. Option 3 is All Peril Coverage - a policy that covers the animal during and after the breeding season ie: frozen testicles, injury in the winter, etc. and for that reason we will be covering 80% of the original value, less salvage when possible. Soo Line Cattle Co. is responsible to make payment within 30 days of an approved claim or provide a suitable replacement immediately if you so choose. Exclusion to Policy - Injury or death due to malicous, willful or intentional acts or mistreatment by you or your employees are fraudulent claims. Feel free to contact us for more information. Sight Unseen Program - Tell us your requirements and we ll select bulls that meet those orders. If you are not 100% satisfi ed when the trailer is in your yard, you don t own him, no questions asked. Terms of Sale are cash or cheque at par, payable to Clerks of the sale on sale day, unless prior arrangements have been made. No release will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and the owners, sale management and sale staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for property loss or for any accidents that may occur. Animal Nutrition Program for Soo Line Cattle Co. Bull Development Program: To begin any bull development program, it is essential to start with a detailed forage analysis since 70% - 75% of the diet in our bull development programs come from forages. Initially the bulls were weaned in early September and started on a high fi ber diet. As they progressed, the bulls were slowly transitioned onto a hay and silage diet, with the introduction of a NB Bull Pellet designed to complement the forages on farm. This ration was gradually increased as the bulls advanced through the program. Keep in mind that 70-75% of the bull s complete ration at their peak still came from the forage side of the diet. SooLine s program is specifi cally designed to support the nutritional requirements of young growing and developing bulls. This was accomplished by the following: (1) The NB Bull pellet provides high protein and bypass protein for lean muscle development along with a high digestible fi ber to ensure rumen digestibility and effi cient gain. (2) The NB Bull pellet also contains specifi cally balanced vitamins and mineral levels required to support muscle, bone and testicular development. (3) The energy source in the bull pellets comes primarily from corn which is a much safer form of energy to feed to growing and developing bulls as compared to barley based diet. After the Sale: It is important to protect the long term genetic value of the yearling bull you are purchasing. Keep in mind, a lot is expected of yearling bulls they are growing bone and muscle and developing reproductively. While on pasture we recommend that your bull and females have access to a good quality free choice mineral at all times. Finally, we would encourage that depending on your calving timeframe, he be removed from the pasture a maximum of days after exposure and be put back onto a high quality forage diet with some grain for his continued growth and development. Once your bull has reached maturity (i.e. generally 3 years of age), putting grain in his diet should no longer be a requirement as long as he has access to good quality forages and has access to a quality mineral throughout the year.
