1 October, 2014 DEAR HEREFORD PRODUCER: The 2015 Sioux Empire Farm Show, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held January 27 through 31 in the Expo Building on the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. HEREFORD DAY WILL BE THURSDAY, JANUARY 29. Show time will be 8:00 AM and the sale will begin at 11:30 AM. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded. We request that the animals be stalled by 12:00 noon on the day prior to the sale. Horned and Polled cattle will all show and sell together. The rules and regulations and entry blanks are enclosed. Entries must be in the office by NOVEMBER 15, If you need more entry blanks please have them photocopied. The entry fee is $110 for bulls and $85 for females per animal. This entry fee will cover farm show expenses. An additional fee of approximately 10% will be charged to cover additional costs for judge, auctioneer and additional advertising. Entry fees must accompany the entry and be made payable to the Sioux Empire Farm Show, PO Box 1425, Sioux Falls, SD No refunds. If you have production testing information and EPD s on your consignments, be sure to include it with your entry so we may enter it in our catalog. BULLS ONE YEAR OF AGE AND OLDER MUST HAVE NOSE LEAD. We are looking for high-quality cattle to keep this sale going strong! Entries are open to anyone, however, if it is determined there are too many entries, consignors to the previous sales and members of the SDHA will be given preference. We are requesting pictures to be used for advertising be sent to Peter Atkins, th Ave., Tea, SD by November 15. Digital pictures may be ed to atkins15@sio.midco.net. Only the highest quality pictures will be used. Photos may be used in outside advertising and not in Purebred Buyers Guide. The Hereford breed has a room block at the Ramada Limited, which is located at 407 S. Lyons Ave. The hotel is located immediately south of the fairgrounds. The rooms are $65 plus taxes per night. Call the hotel at and ask for the rates for the Farm Show Hereford group at the Farm Show to reserve your room. The room block will be held until DECEMBER 22. There will be a social and dinner for Hereford consignors and producers on the evening before the sale. More information on the dinner/social will follow later. 2 HEREFORD RULES AND REGULATIONS DATE & PLACE: Thursday, January 29, Expo Building, W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds, Sioux Falls, SD. Show time will be 8:00 AM, sale at 11:30 AM. ENTRY FEE: The entry fee will be $110 for bulls and $85 for females, per animal. This entry fee will cover farm show expenses. An additional fee of approximately 10% will be charged to cover costs of judge, auctioneer and additional advertising. NO SALES WILL PAY THE SALE COMMISSSION ON THE LAST BID ACCEPTED. A $1 fee will be deducted for the Beef Checkoff. Entry fees must accompany the entry and be made payable to the Sioux Empire Farm Show, PO Box 1425, Sioux Falls, SD Entry fee will not be refunded, however, substitutions may be made. Bulls one year of age and older must have nose lead. A $12,000 Supreme Row sponsored by the Tri-State Neighbor as our gold sponsor, Wells Fargo Bank as our silver sponsor, and Campbell Supply Co. as our bronze sponsor is again a part of the 2015 Sioux Empire Farm Show. See enclosed rules. The Sioux Empire Farm Show will publish all entries in one catalog and they will be distributed through the Tri-State Neighbor by merging their entire mailing list with the Sioux Empire Farm Show mailing list. Prospective buyers will be reached with this distribution method. REGISTRATION PAPERS: The consignor will be responsible for transferring registration papers and paying any expenses. PEDIGREES: A copy of the pedigree for each animal consigned should be sent with the entry form. Please bring original pedigree along to be checked in by Hereford Committee. No cattle will be allowed through the sale ring without a pedigree. ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries must be in the farm show office by NOVEMBER 15, This includes copy of certificate of registry and footnotes, if desired, and bull service in case of females. AGE: All animals must be born after January 1, ARRIVAL TIME: All animals must be stalled by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 28. Animals can arrive any time after 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 27. FITTING CHUTES: One fitting chute will be allowed per three animals at $30 per chute with the second chute allowed in with the fourth head at an additional cost of $30. Upon check-in, tags will be issued and must be attached to the fitting chutes. HEALTH CERTIFICATES: All animals must have a health certificate. Each animal must be individually identified with an official USDA tag or registration tattoo accompanied by the registration certificate. Please add animal s registration number to the health certificate. ONLY one breed or class of animal (market vs. breeding) per health certificate. Health papers are to be turned in at the barn superintendent s office (blue information shack) located in the northeast corner of the stalling barn. OUT-OF-STATE ANIMALS NEED TO HAVE AN IMPORT PERMIT NUMBER TO ENTER SOUTH DAKOTA AND OUR SHOW. HAVE YOUR VETERINARIAN CALL THE STATE VETERINARIAN S OFFICE AT TO OBTAIN AN IMPORT PERMIT NUMBER TO BE LISTED ON THE HEATLH CERTIFICATE AND OTHER HEALTH QUESTIONS. TEST REQUIREMENTS: BRUCELLOSIS: Cattle originating from the Designated Surveillance Areas in Montana and Wyoming must meet their states intrastate movement requirements. All cattle from Idaho must have a negative Brucellosis test within 30 days of import. All other states and areas are free and do not need testing. TUBERCULOSIS: Beef Cattle originating in herds from tuberculosis accredited Free State or zone may be shipped to the Sioux Empire Farm Show without an official tuberculin test.

3 TRICHOMONIASIS: Non-virgin bulls must have three negative Trichomoniasis cultures one week apart, with the last test within 30 days of the sale date or one PCR negative Trichomoniasis test within 30 days of sales. The veterinarian issuing the health certificate has to certify that the bull has not bred since the start of the test and a copy of the test results for Trichomoniasis must be attached to the health certificate. This testing is required for all bulls that are non-virgin including both out-of-state bulls as well as in-state bulls. (Only virgin bulls are exempt). Cattle must be free of any infectious, contagious, or communicable disease such as ringworm, warts, lice, pinkeye, or lump jaw. If warts have been surgically removed, the scars must be healed by the time of exhibition. Animal Health import requirements can be found at or call the SD Animal Industry Board office at Semen check is required on any bulls 15 months of age, as breed requires. We must have the DATES OF TESTS AND WHERE THEY WERE TESTED. (Name of Lab and address) listed on health certificate. ALL INFORMATION MUST BE RECORDED ON HEALTH CERTIFICATE TO ACCOMPANY THE ANIMALS ENTERED. When you get your catalog, put your lot number on top right hand side of health certificate. Give health certificate to livestock attendant in blue information shack in the northeast corner of the stalling barn prior to unloading. Any question regarding the health of an animal will be based on the animal s condition as it is presented on entry day. This determination is at the discretion of the Show Veterinarian and official show representative. Terms of each breed sale are cash or check with settlement to be made with the Sale Clerk at time of sale. Consignors and/or buyer s representative should be prepared to pay the total price in absence of the buyer. After an animal is sold, it will be led from the sale ring to the tie stall. Sold animals may not be removed from the building until the pink slip is presented in the Blue information shack. Arrangements may be made to house the animal overnight but care for that animal is solely the responsibility of the consignor or buyer. The consignor is responsible for the transferring of the registration papers on each entry. Each consignor accepts the responsibility of guaranteeing breeding soundness of each animal consigned. The Sioux Empire Farm Show acts only as an agent and does not assume any responsibility for the health and breeding soundness of the animal. All guarantees are strictly between buyer and seller. The buyer assumes all risk on animals as soon as they are declared sold. The Sioux Empire Farm Show, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds and anyone associated with helping with the show assumes no responsibility for accident of injury or will not be responsible for any injury or loss of any animal or accident thereby. Any cattle sifted will be asked to leave the building prior to the sale with no refund of entry fees. We ask you to bring your best so we can have one of the top sales in the area. Reminder: Entries that are not postmarked by November 15 will not be accepted.

(Bronze Sponsor) 1. Animals must be owned by consignor and registered in same name 6 months prior to entry date. Exception for registration only: The dam of animals born in 2014 must be registered in consignors name 6 months prior to entry date. (Breed representatives may require entries to be first-owner.) 2. Minimum of 50% interest and full possession of animal must sell. 3. Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Female from each qualifying breed must be displayed on Supreme Row from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily following their breed sale until Supreme Row judging. The animal s care will be the consignor s responsibility. 4. Judging format will be announced at the Sioux Empire Farm Show. 5. All registration certificates of animals sold will be transferred to a bonafide new owner who is independent of the consignor. The Sioux Empire Farm Show Supreme Row Committee reserves the right to check with breed associations or other sources any time in the future to verify bonafide sales of Supreme Champions. 6. The Sioux Empire Farm Show Supreme Row Committee reserves the right to determine if rules have been violated and impose penalties on all individuals and firms involved. Penalties may include withholding or reimbursement of all awards and being banned from future Sioux Empire Farm Shows. 7. Any deviations or changes to these rules will be the discretion of the Sioux Empire Farm Show and consignors & buyers will be informed in appropriate and timely manner.
