1 2018 PIG SCRAMBLE RULES (Sponsored by the Champaign County Agricultural Society and Donors) 1. The Champaign County Agricultural Society, FFA Departments, OSU Champaign County Extension Office, and the Committee in charge, will not be responsible for any accidents. 2. Qualifications for contestants are: a. girls must be entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in fall of 2018 b. Be interested in livestock feeding. c. Must be able to feed and care for the hog for duration of finishing period and complete project records. d. Be reliable and trustworthy. e. Now carrying a 4-H or FFA project. f. Must submit a handwritten 100 word essay on Why I Would Like to Participate in the Pig Scramble" with the application (Essay must be handwritten and legible). g. Previous pig winners ARE NOT eligible. 3. Girls and pigs will be placed on the grandstand track as directed by the grandstand announcer. 4. Girls will wear football helmets, sweatshirts and tight-legged jeans during the contest. No football shoes can be worn. The Committee suggests heavy shoes or tennis shoes. No sandals allowed. Girls will wear their own clothing. Scramble T-shirts and helmets will be furnished. 5. If a girl has hold of a pig, no other girls will be allowed to touch the pig until it breaks away. 6. If a girl catches the pig by the tail, she shall be given a reasonable amount of time (approximately 30 seconds) to work to correct her hold; otherwise the referee will order her to let go of the pig. 7. If two or more girls catch the same pig, the pig will be turned loose. 8. Girls will secure the pig and carry or pull any way, except by the ears, into the winner's circle without aid. She will be a winner when so indicated by the referee. 9. Undue roughness will not be tolerated by the referee. Poor sportsmanship automatically disqualifies any contestant. 10. Pig Scramble will be refereed by a group selected by the Committee in charge. 11. After all minor's release and application forms have been checked (application must be properly signed by contestant and parents), the Pig Scramble Committee will notify each girl of her acceptance as a participant and where and when to meet on the date she is to participate in the Pig Scramble. 12. Scramble pigs will be inspected by a Committee prior to the 2019 County Fair. Pigs not making satisfactory progress will be presented to the Fair Swine Committee for appropriate action. 13. Pigs will weigh approximately pounds at selection.

2 14. Prior to May 1, 2019, contestants (those having caught pigs in the 2018 Scramble) will select pigs purchased for them. Selection will be made in the order that contestants caught pigs in the 2018 Pig Scramble. Contestants MUST BE PRESENT during the selection process. If the contestant is not present, they will be dropped to the bottom of the selection order. 15. Scramble pigs caught in 2018 will be required to show at the 2019 Champaign County Fair in a special class. Pigs will be required to sell in the 2019 swine sale. Projects not shown will be billed the cost of the scramble pig pending review by the scramble committee. 16. Scramble pigs caught in 2018 must be carried as projects in either FFA or a 4-H Club. You will need to indicate the 4-H Club or FFA Chapter at selection time. 17. The Scramble Committee wants you to have a great Pig Scramble experience. Please feel free to ask your 4-H Advisor, FFA Instructor or the Extension Office staff if you need help. 18.
