The only person authorized to give permission for a wrestler to leave the area is A: The head official B: Any of the weigh in officials C: The head coach of the home school D: The meet administration : If an athlete misses weight on the first attempt on the scale, he/she is allowed to step off the scale and do the following: A: Spit in a bottle. B: Remove/adjust/modify clothing. C: Cut Hair. D: Step back on the scale(s). 12: What is the correct procedure regarding wearing socks for weighing in? B: Knees are behind the rear starting line, hands are in front of the forward starting line with just the fingertips touching. C: Knees are parallel to and behind the rear starting line, hands are in front of the forward starting line with heels of the hands in contact with the mat, elbows are not touching the mat, the offensive wrestler can assume a legal starting position, and the defensive wrestler remains stationary. D: Both A and B E: All of the above 18: When a wrestler repeatedly locks hands around one leg of an opponent to prevent scoring, it is considered: A: Technical violation B: Stalemate C: Stalling D: Calf bull dogging : In a dual meet, the assistant coach approaches the bench and requests a conference. During the conference, he questions a judgment call. As the official explains his call, the coach becomes angry and says in a voice loud enough to be overheard by others, that s bullshit. What is the call? A: Official deducts one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct. B: Official issues a misconduct warning. C: Official issues a misconduct warning and deducts one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct. 5 5; 5 30; 7 5
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 4 of 9 20: Wrestler A throws Wrestler B directly to his back, into nearfall criteria, with Wrestler B's shoulders/scapulae completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestler A's toes finish inbounds, up on his/her toes, knees are off the mat and inside the boundary line. What is the correct call and procedure? A: The referee immediately blows whistle to stop the match and signals out of bounds. No takedown or nearfall is awarded. B: The referee signals two points for takedown. Immediately follows with whistle to stop the match and signals out of bounds. No nearfall is awarded. C: The referee signals two points takedown, wrestling continues and the referee immediately looks for nearfall/fall : Wrestler A takes Wrestler B directly to his back, into nearfall criteria. All supporting points of Wrestler B are inbounds. All supporting points of Wrestler A are beyond the boundary line. One shoulder/scapula of Wrestler B is beyond the boundary line and one shoulder/scapula is inside the boundary line. All supporting points of Wrestler A are beyond the boundary line. C: The referee signals two points takedown, wrestling continues and the referee immediately looks for nearfall/fall. 24: When a wrestler backs out, pushes or pulls an opponent off the mat, it is now considered stalling
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 5 of 9 25: While starting wrestlers in the referee's position, the referee will stand stationary in front of the wrestlers and at an angle. Establish eye contact with the scorer's table. 26: Both wrestlers are in a tie up situation. Wrestler A has both feet completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestler B has both feet inside the boundary line. Wrestling is considered: : Both wrestlers are in a tie up situation. Wrestler A has both feet completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestler B has one foot inside the boundary line and one foot completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestling is considered: 28: Both wrestlers are in a tie up situation. Wrestler A has one foot inside the boundary line and one foot completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestler B also has one foot inside the boundary line and one foot completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestling is considered: 29: Both wrestlers are in a tie up situation. Wrestler A has both feet completely beyond the boundary line. Wrestler B has one foot inside the boundary line and one foot on the boundary line such that part of the foot is beyond the boundary line and part of the foot is on the boundary line. Wrestling is considered: 30: Both wrestlers are in a tie up situation. Both Wrestler A and Wrestler B have one foot completely beyond the boundary line and each has one foot on the boundary line such that part of the foot is beyond the boundary line and part of the foot is on the boundary line. Wrestling is considered: 31: During an overtime match, the wrestlers are still tied after the sudden victory round. How is the choice of the first 30 second tiebreaker determined? A: First point scored in the match. B: The opposite wrestler who s choice it was in the 3rd period. C: Flip of the disk. D: Wrestler with the fewest stalling calls gets choice
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 6 of 9 32: If team A, by rule, sends their wrestler to the bench to check in first, and then withdraws him/her, team B will win that match by A: Forfeit B: Disqualification C: Default : In a dual meet, Team A has choice in the even numbered matches. In the third match of the meet, Team A sends their wrestler to the table first. Then Team B's wrestler reports. Team A may recall their wrestler and replacement him/her with another qualified contestant without penalty 34: If both coaches agree on an order of matches, it s not necessary to do a coin flip prior to a dual meet : If an official just called stalling on the top wrestler, and his/her coach heads directly to the table, it s not necessary to stop the match to have a conference, as the official knows it s a judgment call and can not be contested. 36: In a tournament situation, in the third period of a match, the referee signals a 2 point reversal for Wrestler A. The scorekeeper fails to record it. The scorekeeper's final score is Wrestler B 8, Wrestler A 7. The referee declares Wrestler B the winner. After the handshake, Wrestler A leaves the mat area. The coach of wrestler A, who has not left the mat area, brings the error to the attention of the referee. The referee clearly remembers giving the reversal for Wrestler A and sees that it was not recorded on the score sheet. The next match on that mat is not started. What is the correct call? A: Since the correction does not necessitate additional wrestling, and the coach of Wrestler A had not left the mat area, the score can be corrected. Wrestler A would be given the two points for the reversal. This would change the final score to Wrestler A 9 and Wrestler B 8. Wrestler A would be declared the winner of the match. B: Although the correction does not necessitate additional wrestling, any correction of error must be made prior to the offended contestant leaving the mat area. Since Wrestler A left the mat area, the error cannot be corrected. Wrestler B would remain the winner of the match
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 7 of 9 37: In a tournament situation, the wrong wrestler is given choice at the beginning of the third period. The error goes undetected and each wrestler scores multiple points in that third period. The match concludes and Wrestler B is declared the winner. After the handshake, Wrestler A leaves the mat area. The coach of Wrestler A, who has not left the mat area, brings the error to the attention of the referee. The referee agrees an error had occurred. The next match on that mat is not started. What is the correct call? A: Since the coach of the offended wrestler had not left the a mat area, the error can be corrected. Both wrestlers are brought back to the mat. Bad time is declared. Any points, penalties, injury time that occurred during the bad time are voided (except for flagrant misconduct, unsportsmanlike conduct, unnecessary roughness, illegal holds/maneuvers and blood time). After 1 minute rest, the correct wrestler is given choice for the third period, and the entire third period is re wrestled. B: The error cannot be corrected. Errors that necessitate additional wrestling must be corrected prior to the offended wrestler leaving the mat area. Even though the coach of the offended wrestler remained in the mat area, the offended wrestler had left the mat area. 38: In a guillotine, it is not legal to lock hands until near fall criteria has been met. 39: The draping head scissor is considered a technical violation. 40: When a hold/maneuver which may cause injury is used but is legal, it is Potentially Dangerous. When recognized the following may be done. A: Give the signal for potentially dangerous hold B: Verbally caution against forcing it into an illegal position C: Award penalty points without stopping the match 41: Which of the following is not an illegal hold? A: Straight back salto B: Nelson cradle C: Back bow upon application D: Grabbing the ear guards during application of a half nelson & : If the second injury timeout is taken at the conclusion of the first period, the opponent shall have the choice of position: A: At the start of the second period only B: At the start of the second and third periods C: Throughout the remainder of the match D: No change in the choice of position
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 8 of 9 43: The penalty sequence for coach misconduct starts new each day of a multi day event. 44: If wrestler A takes his/her second injury time out at the end of the first 30 second tiebreaker and A had his/her choice for the first one, wrestler B is given choice at the beginning and again for the first restart after the beginning of the second 30 second tiebreaker period 8 2 1h 45: If a wrestler is injured as a result of an illegal hold/maneuver, unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct during the match, or by a false start by the opponent in neutral position, the injured wrestler is allowed 2 minutes of recovery time. If the injured wrestler is unable to continue following the allotted recovery time, he/she shall be awarded the match by default. Which of the listed items is new beginning in the season? A: Injury due to unsportsmanlike conduct B: Injury due to false start by the opponent in neutral position C: Injury due to illegal hold D: Injury due to unnecessary roughness 46: In dual meet competition, if teams end with identical scores, the first criteria for breaking the tie is "the team who scored the most wins by fall" : In a dual format competition where the team score is tied at the end of the dual match, which of the following criteria takes priority over the others? A: The team who won the greater number of matches (including forfeits) shall be declared the winner. B: The team who has accumulated the greater number of falls, defaults. forfeits and disqualifications shall be declared the winner. C: The team having the greater number of technical falls shall be declared the winner. D: The team having the greater number of major decisions shall be declared the winner. 48: The method for recording the final score of a dual match that was resolved using the team tie breaker system is to add one additional point to the prevailing team's team score, along with the letter of the criterion used to break the tie
WOA Wrestling Study Guide Page 9 of 9 49: When starting the wrestlers in neutral position, the referee should stand inside the ten foot circle, close enough to wrestlers to observe their legal starting position, but far enough away so as not to interfere with wrestling. 50: Unsportsmanlike conduct on a coach carries over to the second day of a tournament CB 79 3 Pen Chart Pg 42
