2 Chairman s welcome County Tipperary Clubs It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all here tonight for our second Tipperary Star Awards. After a very successful year last year, I would like to extend my welcome and congratulations to all club Schools and county Award Winners. I would like to thank Mr. Colin Byrne, our Regional Development Officer, Jacqui Freyne Performance Development Manager AAI, Mr. Mossie Wolfe, Munster Chairman, Mr. Liam Hennessy, member of European Athletics and board member of Athletics Ireland, Mrs. Georgina Drumm, President of Athletics Ireland for joining us here tonight to honor the recipients of the 2016 Tipperary Star Awards in Track & Field and Cross Country. We are fortunate this year as Moyne AC have put forward two cups for the senor Track & Field and the Healy family have sponsored two cups, in memory of their father, Tom, for the best male and female competing under 14 in Track and Field. Tonight belongs to the Stars and my congratulations to each and every one of them and enormous credit must go to their Parents, Guardians, Coaches and club officers who give so much of their time to promote the sport of Athletics. I would also like to thank these athletes and others like them for the enjoyment that they bring to all of us each time they compete. To all our club members I would like to extend my appreciation for all your assistance and help throughout last year and in organizing this Awards Night again this year. In Tipperary we are fortunate that we have finest group of officials in the country when it comes to Road Running, Track & Field, Schools and Cross Country. I would also like to thank all our clubs for all the help for every event that we run. 5 Hall of Fame Award Breeda Christie, Tipperary Town A.C. Tom Healy Memorial Cup for Excellence in Track & Field U/14 Girl Aimee Hayde, Newport A.C. Breeda Christie, Tipperary Town A.C., our Honorary Life President has selflessly given more than 50 years of her life to athletics, volunteering in the community and the promotion of sports for young people. An inspiration to the many people whose lives, octogenarian Breeda has touched over the years; our Hall of Fame award could not have gone to a better & more deserving person. Breeda is 86 years young and is still as actively involved at County level athletics as she was when she first started many years ago. Breeda has officiated in many roles as an officer of the County Tipperary & Munster Athletics Boards. Our annual County Juvenile Championships would not be the same without her dulcet tones over the microphone & her cracking of the whip at tardy officials. Indeed many an official has to run across the infield to keep up with her. She is our County Treasure, the only one who gets a special car parking space right at the track with her favourite daytime tipple, vegetable soup accompanied by salad sandwiches on stand-by at every event. Breeda is also the founder and president of Tipperary Community Games and she remains the driving force behind Tipperary Town Athletics Club. Generations of people from the town and its environs have been trained and mentored by Breeda and on training nights in rain, hail or snow Breeda opens the track gates, runs the session, ensures all the children are collected and locks the gate once everyone has gone home. The values of discipline and respect for others which she has sought to enshrine in all the athletes Breeda hopes will assist them in all aspects of their lives. Aimee s Achievements in 2016 Indoors: County - 1st u14 800m Munster - 1st u14 800m All Ireland - 1st u14 All Ireland Outdoors: County T&F - 800m, & 1500m Munster T&F- 1st 1500m & 2nd 800m All Ireland T&F - 1st 1500m, 2nd 800m. County Cross Country - 1st u14 3,000m, 1st u15 3,500m Munster Cross Country - 1st u14 & u15 All Ireland Cross Country - 1st u14, 3rd u15. This is Breeda's 4th prestigious award in the past 5 years having won the Canon Hayes Volunteer in Sport Award in 2010 and the Munster Athletics Hall of Fame Award (to a standing ovation) and the National Volunteer in Sport Award for Athletics & Community Games in Her lifetime voluntary contribution to sport at a local, provincial & national level makes her an ideal candidate for our Hall of Fame award.

6 Tom Healy Memorial Cup for Excellence in Track & Field U/14 Boy Ross Alexander, Coolquill A.C. Jack Barnett, Templemore A.C. European Indoor Masters, Ancona, Italy M35 5km Walk, 10 th place in proved a very successful year for Jack Barnett across all 3 throwing disciplines. The year began with a Munster Gold Medal in the Shot Putt with a throw of 12m77cm followed up by Gold in the All-Ireland with a throw of 12m 97 cm. The Outdoor season followed a similar pattern with Gold in Munster in the Shot Putt alongside Gold in the Discus and Bronze in the Javelin, leaving him pretty much our best thrower across the board in Munster. Whilst the All- Ireland Shot Putt final did not put him on the podium in 2016, the Discus brought him Gold instead in his first year as a competitor in this sport. Jack shows much promise and this award is just recognition for his commitment and achievements to date. Adrian McGinley, Templemore A.C. 9 Best Adult Male Over 19, Senior or Master Girls 15 to 19 Cross Country Stuart Moloney, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. Emma Fagan, Newport A.C. Stuart started running in 2012 after a long sabbatical from the sport, having run Cross Country in Post-Primary school, literally in the last century. He considers himself fortunate to have joined Mooreabbey Milers, which over the past 4 years has been more of a family to him than a club. The easiest part of running is actually running and he is humbled by the dedicated and tireless work of the Mooreabbey committee members, who contribute to the development of the club in a way most runners don't appreciate. He attributes his success to his wife, two daughters, parents, club mates and great friend Gerry Reilly. Running has given him much more than physical fitness, as he has met so many like minded, hard working, determined individuals from different clubs both locally and nationally. Running has a unique camaraderie and shared value system that will hopefully mean athletics will be part of his, and his family's life for years to come.he endured a frustrating end to the year, missing Munster Intermediate, Masters and National Novice Championships with sickness, but hopes to bounce back in Achievements: County o35 indoor 3k - Gold Munster Senior Indoor 3k - Silver Co Senior Road Relays - Team Gold (division2). Ted's Achievements in 2016 All Ireland Minor Schools Boys Cross Country 2nd place Munster Schools Boys Cross Country 1st place All Ireland Minor Schools Boys Track and Field 3rd place PB Munster Schools Boys Track and Field 3rd place Tipperary U-15 and U-16 Cross Country champion 2016 Munster u-15 Cross Country th place In March 2016 Hazel Galloway, Clonmel A.C. represented Ireland at the European Indoor Masters Championships in Ancona, Italy in the W60 60m finishing 4 th in 9.48 & 5 th in the 200m in Hazel also competed in the World track and Field Championships in Perth in October where she was 7th in the 100m final over 60 in secs. In the 200m final over 60 she was 6 th in secs. At the National Masters Track & Field Championships in Tullamore in August, Hazel won double National titles in the Women s 0/60 100m where she ran secs and the 200m title finishing in secs.
