1 IRONMAN Hamburg Athlete Guide 2018

2 MESSAGE FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR Dear athletes, Welcome to the second edition of IRONMAN Hamburg! We are incredibly proud to have launched the best race in Europe last year with the first edition. The expectations are correspondingly high and we have given everything to fulfill them, better yet: to surpass them. The race starts at the Jungfernstieg. One thing is for sure - there will once again be a spectacular swimming in the Binnenalster and Außenalster that creates sensational images. The newly designed bike course, which takes all athletes to the Vier- and Marschlande and takes place exclusively on Hamburg soil, promises to achieve a personal best time through its flat profile. Hamburg's most beautiful running area awaits you with thousands of spectators and lots of great views over the inland waters of the harbor metropolis. With a total of four rounds it goes three times over the town hall market. Here the loud atmosphere that awaits you for the later finish can already be enjoyed. Without volunteers you can not manage such a big event. Therefore, we would like to thank all our volunteers. Furthermore, big thanks you to the Active City Hamburg. Last but not least - thanks to our sponsors, who actively support us in offering our athletes the best possible event again. The IRONMAN team is looking forward to Hamburg and to you, to enjoy the unique, hanseatic IRONMAN feeling together. We wish you a successful race! 10 RACE DAY INFORMATION Weatheron Race Day Sunrise on the 29 th of July is at 05:55am, sunset at 20:54pm. The average daytime temperature in July is C. We will monitor the weather on race day. We reserve the right to cancel, modify or shorten any portion of the event for safety considerations. TransitionArea, Pre-race routine The Transition Area opens on Race Day at 05:30am and will be closed at 06:45am. Only IRONMAN Hamburg athletes, IRONMAN staff and authorized persons have access to the Transition Area. Coaches, managers, family members and spectators have no access to the Transition Area. A service point in the Transition Area provides bike support including air-pumps prior to the race from 05:00am. You may bring your own pump, but must give it to a family member or friend before the race start. Pumps will not be accepted in the pre-swim gear bags (white bags). The organizer accepts no responsibility for athletes air-pumps. The white pre race bag contains clothing and personal items that will be needed after the race. This white bag has to be dropped by leaving transition to the swim start before the race and will await its owner in the Athletes Garden near the Finish Line. ROLLING RUN START With the publication of the new bike course for the IRONMAN Hamburg 2018, the course profile changed accordingly from the previous year. So the new bike course is much flatter than last year. In order to avoid the potential problem of "slipstreaming", we, the organizer, have thought about the measures we can take to ensure a fair race. As a result we will extend the Rolling Run Start of the IRONMAN Hamburg to a total of 60 minutes. In addition, the largest time interval intervals are carried out in the middle and high-frequency starting blocks. This measure will ensure a stretched racing field. Furthermore, we ask of course all athletes for fair behavior. All cut-off times remain unaffected by the adjustment. Athletes will line up according to their realistic predicted run time and every five seconds, we will send out five athletes. It will take approximately 60 minutes to get the entire field across the swim start line. PLEASE BE HONEST TO YOURSELF AND LINE UP ACCORDING TO YOUR REALISTIC EXPECTED SWIM TIME! This is the only way to guarantee a smooth and secure flow ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes! For more information please visit ironman.com Run Start Before the swim start, the Transition Area is opened from 05:30 am until 06:45am. At 07:00am the professional male athletes and at 07:02am the professional female athletes will start the race. Between 07:10amand 08:10amall other athletes will start the race (rolling start). The Run course is a one lap course of 6 kilometer. The athletes will start from the shore at the Jungfernstieg. Start from any other area will result in a disqualification.
