1 BOKSBURG ATHLETIC CLUB COMRADES RESULTS 2014 (Updated June 04, 2014) THANK YOU S Firstly a big thank you to our Comrades 2014 sponsors: David MacLean from Thembelihle and Milan Ignjatov from Kappa Heavy Engineering. The cooler bags and long sleeved t.shirts you sponsored the runners and helpers were a great hit and are greatly appreciated. Secondly, thank you to all our helpers along the Comrades route on the day, your encouragement and help was greatly appreciated by all our runners and I have heard so many compliments from our members. To the gang at the 60km mark Gareth, Tracy, Dave, Leigh-Ann, Estelle and Eric and to Bob and his gang at 45 th Cutting, thank you very much. It is a long day for you guys but is greatly appreciated. COMRADES 2014 RESULTS Congratulations to all our members that finished the grueling 89.28km Comrades marathon run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Commiserations to those members who were unable to complete the race, and to those that did not line up at the start this year. 2 -2- Congratulations to Rita van Wyk who was 3 rd Master Lady overall (a wonderful achievement) and to Lindy-Lee Folscher who achieved her 2 nd silver this year and finished 18 th Lady overall (another wonderful achievement). Sheree earned her Perpetuity Number this year (10 Comrades completed). Adam Walker finished his 1 st run. 24 novices qualified for Comrades this year: Unfortunately Mpho Bereng was not able to finish the race, but I am sure he will be back in Nicholas Ndlovu did not start this year and he is hoping that he will get to the start line in Our novices took Comrades by storm with year and they have made us very proud with excellent results: Ruan (Johannes) Aldum 10:59:16; Edite Bergonzi 11:21:40; Eric Bergonzi 9:41:32; Nick Bester 7:14:37 (Silver); Cobus Blignaut 8:54:09; Tracy Booyens 10:33:50; Leoni Botha 11:36:23; Juanita Da Ascencao 11:39:59; Nardus Jordaan 9:03:32; David Kouvarellis 9:35:04; Jolene Matthysen 9:25:54; Thinus Matthysen 11:05:39; Oudemane Metswamere 7:43:41; Tebogo Moloi 11:31:29; Christopher Mortlock (our barefoot runner) 11:33:48; Selatole Moshabane 11:36:23; Taryn Retief 8:42:02 (our first female novice home); Odette Ungerer 11:29:20; Bjorn Uys 10:09:46, Eugene van der Westhuizen 7:12:26 (Silver); Adam Walker 11:16:27 and Khulekani Zwane 7:11:08 (silver and our first male novice home).

3 -3- The oldest finisher this year was President - Neil Cochran Unfortunately Jabulani Ngwenya 1947 (DNS) and Gavin Bruce 1948 (DNF). The youngest finisher by a few months was Lindi Robbertze (29/05/1991) who finished in a time of 11:51:50 just pipping Taryn Retief (22/02/1991) for this accolade. The First Husband and Wife team home this year was: Wynand (7:26:47) and Bronwyn (9:30:14) Strydom beating Theuns (8:43:10) and Marinda (10:36:19) Coetzee; Thinus (11:05:39) and Jolene (9:25:54) Matthysen and Eric (9:41:32) and Edite (11:21:40) Bergonzi for this award. Unfortunately Danny better half of Lindy-Lee Folscher and Johan better half of Hannelie Dunn, did not finish and did not start respectively. Hannelie finished in a time of 11:53:40. Our 2 international members finished the race, Simon Ward (11:36:37) on his 2 nd attempt and David Kouvarellis his first. All 3 of our Personal Trainers finished this year. Liezel Best in 11:25:22, Andre Vieira in 10:50:49 and Monica Vorster in 8:49:35. 7 of the 8 members that were running their tenth comrades completed the race and received their permanent numbers. Bashier Nhlapo finished in a time of 11:57:57; Christopher Nhlapo 9:15:25; Sheree Rogers 11:21:03, Herman Steyn 8:25:29; Benzi Tenza 8:19:39, Eric van der Merwe 11:07:05 and Mfundiso Zondo 9:41:39. Who will win the Fastest Green trophy this year? Unfortunately Annelize Jonck was unable to finish her 10 th race due to ill health. Frank Da Ascencao and daughters Nicole and Juanita crossed the finish line together in a time of 11:39:59. Wynand Strydom achieved his double perpetuity number (20 Comrades) and also earned another silver medal. Last man home was Abel Ngwenya in a time of 11:58:58. Josias Makoro was the 22 nd male overall to finish in the 50+ group (Master) in a time of 7:40:25 and Joseph Morowane was the 34 th male overall to finish in the 50+ group (Master) in a time of 7:57:29. Johan Venter was the 52 nd man to finish in the 60+ group (Grandmaster) in a time of 10:33:36. with Colin Black the 73 rd man in a time of 10:51:45 and Phil Burmeister the 79 th in the same group in a time of 10:55:08.

4 -4- Timothy Amiras finished his 12 th in a time of 11:52:41 nearly 1 hour slower this his last down run in Edward Banda finished his 14 th Comrades in a time of 9:51:35. Tyan Barends finished his 8 th Comrades in a time of 10:44:35 a great improvement on his time of 11:37:09 in Tyan s best time was in 2007 when he finished in a time of 10:18:25. Klaus Bartels finished his 11 th race running in his perpetuity number for the first time in a time of 10:39:38, George Benade finished his 11 th race running in his perpetuity number for the first time in a time of 9:15:22 and Donavan Skinner finished his 11 th run in 11:03:02. Coenie Berowsky finished his 26 th race in a time of 10:06:56. Peace Borake finished his 5 th run in a time of 8:28:00. Peace ran his best race in Unfortunately Theunis Broodryk, Gavin Bruce, Louis Botha, Michael Sithole, Angelina Moreo, Gary Jackson, Stanley Kruger, Muziwandile Sibanyoni, Carolyn Wridgway and Mandi Dudula did not finish the race this year. Better luck next year guys. Johan Burger finished in a time of 9:53:18 a much better time than 2013 when he finished in 10:41:25. Johan ran his best race in Frans Coetzee completed his 15 th run in a time of 10:48:42 JP Delport finished his race in a time of 10:58:45. Teachers Andre Dercksen and Rashika Rampersadh finished in a time of 11:55:20 and 9:48:59 respectively. Rashika finished her 8 th and Andre his 4 th. Unfortunately Andries Du Preez, Percy Khumalo, Jacques Oelofse, Brian Walstroom and Precious Kazamula did not line up for this year s Comrades. Hopefully they will be there next year. Johan Els finished his 3 rd Comrades in a time of 11:14:37 Martin Engelbrecht finished his 2 nd Comrades in a time of 11:10:46. Billy Geyer completed his 14 th run in a time of 11:44:31. Ryan Gibson finished his 8 th run in a time of 8:25:14. Ryan ran his best race in 2010.

5 -5- Amanda Harvey finished her 9 th run in a time of 11:48:39 and Aletta Mkhwanazi her 9 th run in a time of 11:47:23. I am sure they will both be back next year to earn their perpetuity numbers. Jannie Heath completed his 6 th run in a time of 9:07:54. Mark Humphreys finished his 4 th Comrades in a time of 7:48:01. Shaun Jordaan finished his race in a time of 11:33:43. Albert Khoza finished his 8 th Comrades in a time of 10:37:27. I did not see what headgear Albert wore this year. Susan Laybourn completed her 12 th in a time of 9:51:04 and Hennie Lotz his 12 th in a time of 8:53:03. Wayne McBowles and Rudolf Oberholzer finished in a time 8:39:09. Rudolf set his P.B. in 2012 when he ran 8:14:24. Wayne set his P.B. in 2013 when he ran 8:32:57. Zacharia Mogotsi completed his 15th Comrades in a time of 9:15:36. Thabo Moloi completed his 4 th Comrades in a time of 11:32:55. Joseph Morowane finished his 19 th Comrades in a time of 7:57:29 an improvement on his time of 9:00:14 in Molefe Motseki completed his 11 th Comrades in a time of 11:58:22 narrowly missing out on being the last Boksburg Athletic Club runner home. Vhonani Mudau finished his 6 th Comrades in a time of 10:36:50, an improvement on his 11:22:54 in Dieter Muller finished his 19 th Comrades in a time of 10:42:17. I am sure that Dieter will run in 2015 to achieve his double permanent number. Timothy Nicholls ran slightly slower in his 2 nd Comrades and finished in a time of 9:49:16 compared to 9:18:46 in Richard Ngwenya finished his 13 th Comrades in a time of 10:39:33. Lindsay Noel and Martin Simom (brothers-in-law) finished in 8:36:25 and 11:55:19 respectively. Eric Oaker finished his 9 th run in 11:46:15. Hopefully Eric will take part next year and achieve his permanent number.

6 -6- Johannes Pienaar finished his 3 rd race in a time of 11:46:30 slower than his run in 2012 and Riaan Pieterse finished his 3 rd in a time of 9:35:20. (A P.B.) Herman Steyn finished his 10 th race wearing Boksburg Athletic Club colours for the first time in a time of 8:25:29. Herman missed out on a silver in 2010 when he finished the race in 7:31:17. Astrid Straussner finished her 6 th run in a time of 11:32:50. Ben Truter finished his 18 th run in a time of 9:44:55. Werner van der Berg finished his 2 nd run in a time of 8:29:28. Jan van der Linde finished his 9 th run in a time of 8:07:41. Jan your Perpetuity number awaits you in 365 days. Eric van der Merwe received his Perpetuity Number this year. Eric finished in a time of 11:07:05. Derek van der Spuy finished his 16 th Comrades in a time of 7:53:31. Back-to-back medals were awarded to Liezel Best, Nicole Da Ascencao, Martin Engelbrecht, Kelly Maciver and Timothy Nicholls. Jaun-Pierre van Wyk completed his 7 th Comrades this year. He finished in a time of 10:06:56. This was JP s slowest run. JP s P.B. was set in 2010 when he finished in 8:18:47. Johan Venter and training partner Marlene Venter finished their 6 th Comrades. Johan finished in a time of 10:33:36 and Marlene in a time of 10:06:56. Audrey Viljoen finished her2nd run in a time of 11:32:42. Monica Vorster has finished 2 Comrades. Her best time was in 2013 when she finished in 09:00:29. Cosnath Zitha ran in his permanent number for the first time but did not have the best of runs due to not feeling well. Cosnath finished in a time of 11:05:39. Mfundiso Zondo finished his 10 th Comrades and was also awarded with a Perpetuity Number. Mfundiso finished in a time of 9:41:39. WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN TO ALL OUR MEMBERS THAT FINISHED THE COMRADES THIS YEAR.
