2 Transition (Start of Race) Transition opening on both sides. Athlete number assigned randomly. Athlete rack location marked with placard. Bikes racked by the seat nose facing field of play. Gear on bike, behind front wheel of bike or in Transition Bin. Once racked in Transition, bike cannot be removed until competion begins. Transition Assignment: JEF B, JEM A, YEF B, YEM A 2

3 Swim Course Juniors: 750m (1 Lap) / Youth: 375m (1 Lap) Course Clockwise 1 Lap (Buoys on right shoulder). Athletes receive swim cap and chip at swim start. Line up at sidewalk. Slide into water for start (waist deep). Select one space on start line. Take Your Mark! - Air horn starts race. Water temperature: 68.4 degrees Transition 1 Rack by rear wheel. Used / unused equipment must go in Transition Bin. WHEEL STATION Bike Course Juniors: 20k (4 Laps) / Youth: 10k (2 Laps) Clockwise direction. Course does not travel through Transition each lap. Wheel Station located on right side of road between exit on to Highwoods Pkwy and Sadler Road. (Drop off well-marked wheels at Transition prior to Transition closing. Wheels will not be accepted at the Wheel Station.) Lap Out / Overlap rule in effect. 3

Counter clockwise path. Outbound on right side of road. (Cones on left shoulder.) Medical and massage at Finish Line. Aid Stations with sports drink and water on the course. Note: Penalty Box located at run turn around. Awards ceremony at 2:00 pm at Athlete Tent near Finish Line. Top three athletes in each race. 4

7 Uniform & Aero Bars Uniform must cover torso and comply with Collegiate Competitive Rules of the current year. Clip-on aero bars may not extend beyond brake levers. Aero bars must be touching or joined both with solid standard factory bridge at forward most point. Bar-end plugs in place. 26 Helmet Athletes must wear undamaged, unaltered protective head cover (helmet). Must meet or exceed safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Clearly labeled by the manufacturer as satisfying such standards (original sticker in place). No aero helmets allowed. Chin straps snug. 27 7

8 5/6/17 Helmet Clip-on aerobars may not extend beyond the brake levers of the handle bars. Only traditional drop-style handlebars and brake levers allowed. Helmet The ends of both handle bars must be securely capped with bar-end plugs. Athletes must wear undamaged, unaltered protective head cover (helmet) Clearly labeled by the manufacturer as satisfying such standards (original sticker in place) Must meet or exceed safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) No aero helmets allowed Place bike number sticker on the seat post or on the top tube of the frame. 524 Both wheels must have a minimum of 12-spokes. 9 Overview of Competition Penalties Overview of Competition Penalties Missing Pre-race meeting without approval (DSQ). Missing Athlete Check-in (DSQ). Early/False start on swim (:10). Must make forward motion at swim start (:10). Blocking or interfering progress of another competitor (:10). All gear (used/unused) must be in athlete s Transition Bin (:10). Crossing center line on bike course (DSQ). Helmet must be buckled when touching bike (:10). Riding bike in Transition (Mount/Dismount) (:10). Must follow prescribed course / correct lap count (:10). Behaving in an unsportsmanlike way. Swearing Violence Penalties Yellow Card Lap Out Rule in Effect. Stop and Go verbal warning Time Penalty :10 seconds Served in Transition or Penalty Box Red Card Disqualified Athletes who receive the Red Card may complete the race, except for those athletes who are lapped out. 9

10 Penalty Box Penalties not served in Transtion will be served in Penalty Box. Penalty Box located at Junior run turn around near Finish Line. Bib number will be written on white board at Penalty Box. Procedure: Identify yourself; Official will start timing penalty; Must remain in Penalty Box entire time; May not receive any outside assistance while serving penalty; Official will let you know when your time is served. Penalties not served will result in disqualification. Check the Penalty Board. Protest or Appeal: Protest: Athlete may file a Protest with Lead Official provided it has not been previously observed and ruled upon by Officials. Protest is filed against the conduct of an athlete, an athlete s equipment, an Official, or the conditions of the competition. Appeal: An Appeal is a request for review of a decision made by Officials or the Competition Jury. Protest or Appeal: Generally, Protests or Appeals must follow these steps: 1. Notify Lead Official of intent to submit a Protest or Appeal within 5 minutes of finish time. 2. Lead Official will provide appropriate form for athlete to complete. 3. The completed Protest or Appeal form must be submitted to Lead Official no more than 15 minutes after the athlete s finish time. A deposit of $50 USD must accompany the Protest or Appeal form. 10

11 Protest or Appeal: Protests or Appeals are reviewed by the Lead Official and the Competition Jury. All decisions on Appeals are final.
