8 Check-in procedures Athletes Lounge Located at Hockey Club Body marking check (both arms, both legs) Timing chip check (1 for the ankle), Swim cap Uniform Checks Bike check will be done at entrance to transition: handlebars & wheels and saddle position To access transition from athlete lounge: Cross Road opposite Hockey Club and then enter from finish line end Access during races subject to transition activity recommend you come early

9 Check-in procedures Transition Area Helmet check Running Shoes in your space, helmet on the bike (not pre-fastened) All bags to athlete lounge Spare wheels checked in at wheel station (team wheels must have numbers of all team members) All used equipment (T1 = wetsuit, swim cap/goggles, T2 = helmets) must be in your own box

10 Pre-start Procedure Athlete Introduction: 15 minutes before start - line-up at swim exit Enter swim start area in announced order. This will be different to your race number order Positions will be numbered on the barrier behind the start line Select your position and stay in your chosen position Keep one hand on the barrier until the hooter goes

11 Start Procedure Athletes in position: When all athletes are in position, you are in the starters hands The start can be given at any time after the starter announces On your mark Air horn blast The race starts

12 False Start Procedures False start Example 1: Several horn blasts Paddle Boarders in front of you Everyone goes back to her/his spot False start Example 2: If someone starts before the horn and everyone else starts with the horn, the athlete who false started will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in TA1 During the time penalty athlete can not take any equipment!

13 The Course Swim Elite/U23 2 x 750m laps = 1500m Bike Elite/U23 8 laps of 5km = 40km Run Elite/U23 4 laps of 2.5km = 10km

14 Swim course Water temperature: 20.7 today at 3:00pm Call will be made 1 hour before race start Elite/U23 Two laps of 750m (total distance 1500m) Distance to the first turn buoy - 300metres Keep all turn buoys on your right, including buoy at the end of your first lap Take cap, goggles, wetsuit to transition and place in your box

16 Transition Area Traditional Bike Racks Rack bike by seat facing out in T1 Rack by seat or by BOTH brake levers in T2 Running shoes in your immediate area, helmet on the bike Wetsuits, goggles & swim caps in your box Bags to the Athletes Lounge Mount line at the end of the paved area (start of the car park)

18 Bike course 8 laps of 5km = 40km Ride through carpark (start of bike only), turn left on to road Mostly flat but with a steep hill climb on North Street on each lap Hazards Speed Bumps in (bike exit) and as you pass the surf club and Rail Crossing off Coles Beach Road 90 degree left hand bend off North Street Two way bike traffic do NOT cross the centre line Lap Counter and Wheel Station: Just after the dismount line Lapped athletes are out of the race

20 Run course 4 laps of 2.5km = 10km Aid stations: 1 per lap (in the carpark just after the turnaround) Sealed water (Elite/U23) Discard plastic bottles off course Photo-finish Congestion in finish area: Move through to mixed zone / recovery area on finishing

23 Penalty Box The penalty box is for infringements in: TA1, bike and TA2 ex.: Mount before mount line, dismount after dismount line, store your equipment outside your box, rack the bike outside your own space, rack your bike incorrectly etc. New - If you drop equipment during mount/dismount you do not need to pick it up. No penalty will be given Location: Just after the run turnaround near transition (in carpark) Information: White board to show race numbers (Athletes need to read the board coaches are advised to check and inform their athletes) Procedure: Penalty served on any lap of the run 15 seconds If you don t stop DSQ

24 Penalty Box Rule interpretations Mounting before the mount line: Athlete must place at least one foot on the ground after the mount line. If this contact doesn't occur the athlete is considered to have mounted the bike before the mount line Dismounting after the dismount line: Athlete must place at least one foot on the ground floor before the dismount line. If this contact doesn't occur, athlete is considered dismounted the bike after the dismount line Discharge or store your equipment inside your own box: Leaving the equipment (swim cap, goggles, helmet, etc.) in your designated box Rack the bike inside your own space: Traditional bike rack, T1 rack by the seat, facing out. T2 may rack either by the seat or BOTH brake levers. The bike must be racked with at least one side of the handlebar or the seat post within 0.5m of the name plate

25 Post-race Procedures Mixed Zone - immediately after finish 1, 2, 3 with media and local broadcaster Medal Presentation as soon as possible following men's race approx 16:30 Dress up

26 Post-race Procedures Anti-Doping Control Photo ID is needed for every athlete to have ready for Doping Control

27 Important Updates Prize Money & ITU Ranking Points Only athletes from Oceania are eligible for Continental Championship Medals and Points Note that U23 athletes are eligible for both U23 and Elite Medals ITU points are awarded to Oceania athletes based on overall finishing position regardless of whether you are racing U23 or Elite All athletes are eligible for prize money based on overall finishing position
