She has three gold and one silver medal from previous Commonwealth Games since her debut at Manchester in She also has two gold and one silver medal from the Olympic Games. Dame Valerie has been the dominant women's shot putter in the world since 2006, unbeaten in major world events during and having an unprecedented winning streak of 107 competitions during that period. She was the IAAF world female athlete of the year for She finished second at her last major competition, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and is now on the comeback trail after having her first child in October Dame Valerie has won 15 New Zealand shot put titles and was the Halberg Sportswoman of the year award seven consecutive years from She has also been awarded the NZOC's Lonsdale Cup in 2006, 2007, 2011, 2013 and She competes for Pakuranga Athletic Club and has been coached by Scott Goodman since the retirement of Jean-Pierre Egger in 2016.

7 Alana Barber Event: 20km Race Walk Age: 31 Birthplace Auckland Club: Racewalking Auckland Coach: Brett Vallance PB: 1:32: best: 1:32:19 (NZ record) Career highlights: 18th at 2015 World Championships World Race walking Team Championships representative 2016 Rio 2016 Olympian Ranked 73 rd in world 2017 Ranked 71st in world x NZ champion Alana had her major international debut in 2015 at the IAAF Beijing World Track & Field Championships where she placed a very creditable 18th in the 20km race walk, exceeding expectations and beating many athletes ranked well above her before the event. She followed that up with a 35th place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. She has since lowered her New Zealand record for 20km to 1:32:23. Alana was based in England for a number of years where she developed her race walking skills and is not the first in her family to represent New Zealand in Athletics. Her mother Shirley ran at the 1974 Commonwealth Games finishing eighth in the 800m final. Ever since she was a small girl Alana has wanted to emulate her mother and represent New Zealand. Although Alana is New Zealand's top woman race walker, the time spent overseas training and honing her skills means she only has three NZ championships to her name, the 2014 and km and km titles. Alana splits her time between Auckland, Australia and various other locations around the world for specific training blocks. Alana competes for Race Walking Auckland and has worked as a television producer.

8 Camille Buscomb Event: 10,000m, 5000m Age: 27 Birthplace: Hamilton Club: Hamilton City Hawks Coach: Nick Bideau PB: 31:45.02, 15: best: -, 15:49.55 Career highlights: 2 nd at 2015 World University Games 5,000m 30 th at 2017 World Championships 10,000m 12 Senior NZ titles Camille represented New Zealand at the 2017 London World Championships in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, finishing 30 th in the 10,000m. In 2015 she won a Silver Medal at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. Camille also represented New Zealand at the 2007 World Youth Championships and the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Camille set her personal best for 10,000m of 31:45.02 in Stanford, CA in 2017, ranking her 33 rd in the world that year. In 2016 she won the prestigious Zatopek:10 in Australia. Camille is currently based in Melbourne and is coached by Nick Bideau and has won 12 NZ championship titles. Her partner is Cameron French who is also in the New Zealand Athletics team.

9 Cameron French Event: 400m hurdles Age: 25 Birthplace: Hamilton Club: Hamilton City Hawks Coach: Criss Strange PB: (NZ record) 2018 best: Career highlights 5 th at 2015 World University Games 3 senior NZ 400m hurdles titles Cameron represented New Zealand at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, placing fifth in He earlier represented New Zealand at the Oceania Regional Championships, winning four medals. Cameron recently broke the New Zealand 400m hurdles record, running qualifying him for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, his first major international competition. Cameron has won three New Zealand 400m hurdles titles and has won New Zealand Championship medals over 100m and 400m. Cameron competes for the Hamilton City Hawks club and is coached by Criss Strange. His partner Camille Buscomb (10,000m & 5000m) is also in the 2018 Commonwealth Games team. Cameron is strong across a number of events with personal bests of for 400m and for 100m.

10 Siositina Hakeai Event: Discus Age: 24 Birthplace: Auckland Club: Auckland City Athletics Coach: Kirsten Hellier PB: 60.54m 2018 best: 60.54m Career Highlights: 4 th 2014 Commonwealth Games 4 th 2012 World Junior Championships 1 st 2015 Oceania Championships Gold Coast 2018 will be Siositina s second Commonwealth Games after finishing fourth at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She also came close to medalling at the 2012 World Junior Championships, also finishing in fourth place. Siositina recently improved her personal best to 60.54m. She is coached by Kirsten Hellier and competes for the Auckland City Athletics Club.

11 Ben Langton Burnell Event: Ben Langton Burnell Age: 25 Birthplace: Palmerston North Club: Palmerston North Athletic Club Coach: Debbie Strange PB: 82.44m 2018 best: 78.20m Career highlights: 2017 NZ World Championships team 8th at 2017 World University Games 2x medals at Oceania Championships Ben represented New Zealand at the 2017 World Championships in London, finishing 24 th. Last year he also competed at the World University Games in Taipei, finishing eighth. He competed at the 2010 and 2011 Oceania Championships winning silver and gold respectively. Ben had a breakthrough year in 2017 throwing over 80m for the first time at the Porritt Classic in Hamilton and then improving his personal best to 82.44m. He also won his first NZ Senior title in 2017 after finishing runner up for four years. He won three junior New Zealand titles in the Javelin. Ben trains with coach Debbie Strange in Hamilton and is a member of the Palmerston North Club.

12 Eliza McCartney Event: Pole Vault Age: 19 Birthplace: Auckland Club: North Harbour Bays Coach: Jeremy McColl PB: 4.82m (NZ record) 2018 best: 4.75m Career Highlights: 3 rd 2016 Olympic Games 4 th 2018 World Indoor Champs 5 th 2016 World Indoor Champs 2 nd 2015 World University Games 3 rd 2014 World Junior Champs 2015 World Junior record holder Ranked 4 th in world 2017 Gold Coast will be Eliza s first Commonwealth Games and she will go in as one of the favourites after her world ranking of number 4 in The Rio 2016 Olympics was Eliza's first major international event and she surprised by winning a bronze medal. Eliza has been vaulting very well for a number of years and made the international athletics world take notice of her abilities with a fourth place at the World Under 18 Championships in 2013, following up with a bronze medal at the 2014 World Under 20 Championships. At the end of 2015 Eliza set a world junior pole vault record, clearing 4.64m, just days before her eligibility for a junior record ended. Since then she has extended her New Zealand record to 4.82m, placed fifth at the World Indoor Championships in Portland, USA and finished third in Rio. Eliza lives in Devonport in Auckland, is coached by Athletics NZ High Performance Programme coach Jeremy McColl and competes for the North Harbour Bays club.

13 Olivia McTaggart Event: Pole Vault Age: 18 Birthplace: Gold Coast Club: North Harbour Bays Coach: Jeremy McColl PB: 4.40m 2018 best: 4.35m Career Highlights: 1st 2017 U20 Australian Champs 1 st 2018 Perth Track Classic 1 st 2017 Junioren Gala, Germany Ranked 3 rd in world under Ranked 7 th in world under The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be the first time Olivia has represented New Zealand. In 2017 she broke the national under 17 record which was held by Eliza McCartney. The height she cleared, 4.40m is still her personal best, ranking her 3 rd in the world for under 18 athletes and seventh in the world for under 20 athletes. Olivia has won three national championship gold medals. She is coached by Athletics NZ high performance pole vault coach Jeremy McColl and is a member of the North Harbour Bays club. In 2017 Olivia studied by correspondence school for the last year of her secondary education as she spent a significant period of time training and competing in Europe.

14 Brad Mathas Event: 800m Age: 24 Birthplace: Palmerston North Club: Christchurch Old Boys United Coach: Justin Rinaldi PB: 1: best: 1:46.44 Career highlights: 7 x NZ senior 800m Champion NZ rep World University Games NZ rep World Junior Championships NZ rep Youth Olympic Games Brad will be making his major international debut on the Gold Coast at the Commonwealth Games. His previous international experience has been at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. Brad qualified for the Gold Coast Games at a race in Canberra on the last weekend of the qualifying window, running a personal best of 1:46.44, moving up to eighth on the NZ all-time 800m list. Originally from Whanganui, Brad moved to Christchurch and then to Melbourne to train with Australian coach Justin Rinaldi. He runs for the Christchurch Old Boys Club.

15 Joseph Millar Event: 200m Age: 25 Birthplace: Tauranga Club: Tauranga Ramblers PB: (NZ record) 2018 best: Career Highlights: 6 th 2017 World University Games 200m 2 x Australian 200m champion 2 x Australian 100m champion 5 x NZ Sprint double championship winner Gold Coast 2018 will be Joseph s first Commonwealth Games. He competed in the 100m and 200m at the 2017 World Championships in London, his first major international competition. Later that year he competed at the World University Games in Taipei, finishing 6 th in the 200m and narrowly missing the 100m final. Earlier in his career he represented NZ in the 2010 World Junior Champs and the 2009 World Youth Champs. At the 2017 NZ Champs he broke the NZ resident record for 100m, running and the 200m national record, recording He has won the 100/200m at the national championships in 2012, 2013, 2014 and At the 2018 NZ Championships, he won a record-equalling fifth double sprint victory. Joseph runs for the Tauranga Ramblers Club and has personal bests of for 100m NZ Resident record), for 200m (NZ national record), for 400m.

16 Angie Petty Event: 800m Age: 26 Birthplace: Christchurch Club: University of Canterbury Coach: Danny Mackey PB: 1: best: 2:00.73 Career Highlights: 1st 2015 World University Games 2015 World Championships semi-finalist 2014 Commonwealth Games finalist 11 NZ senior titles Gold Coast will be Angie s second Commonwealth Games, having placed fifth in the 800m in Glasgow Angie has competed at three World Championships in Moscow 2013, Beijing 2015 and London 2017 and had her Olympic debut in Rio in A breakthrough season in 2015 saw Angie win the World University Games 800m in Korea with a stunning finish, running under two minutes for the first time in her career, clocking 1: She became the third fastest NZ women over 800m. Angie is married to English 800m middle distance runner, Sam Petty and they live in Christchurch where she works part-time in early childhood education. Angie has won a total of 11 NZ tiles over 800m and 1500m including taking the double four times. Coached by Danny Mackey, Angie competes for the University of Canterbury Club.

17 Julia Ratcliffe Event: Hammer Age: 24 Birthplace: Hamilton Club: Hamilton City Hawks Coach: Dave Ratcliffe PB: 70.75m (NZ record) 2018 best: 68.39m Career Highlights: 2 nd 2014 Commonwealth Games 3 rd 2015 World University Games 1 st 2014 NCAA Div I Championships 4 x NZ Senior Hammer Champion Gold Coast will be Julia s second Commonwealth Games, having debuted in Glasgow 2014 where she finished second, with 69.96m. The 24-year-old is back in New Zealand after completing a degree in the United States at Princeton University. While in the USA she won the prestigious NCAA title in the hammer in Julia also represented New Zealand at the 2013, 2015 and 2017 World University Games, taking the Bronze Medal in Earlier in her career Julia competed at the 2012 World Junior Championships, finishing fourth and at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Julia holds the NZ record with 70.75m, Julia is coached by her father Dave and competes for the Hamilton City Hawks Club.

18 Quentin Rew Event: 20km Race Walk Age: 33 Birthplace: Wellington Club: Wellington Harrier Athletic Club Coach: Brett Vallance PB: 1:21:12 (NZ record) 2018 best: 1:21:55 Career Highlights: 12 th 2016 Olympic Games 50km race walk 12th 2017 World Championships 50km race walk 10th 2015 World Championships 50km race walk NZ record holder 20km & 50km race walk Gold Coast will be Quentin s first Commonwealth Games, although he has competed at the Olympic Games London 2012 and Rio 2016 where he finished 27 th and 12 th respectively. At the Beijing 2015 World Championships he finished a highly creditable tenth in the 50km race and 17th in the 20km event. At the World Championships in London 2017 he finished 12 th in a NZ record of 3:46:29, ranking him 18 th in the world for the 50km walk in The 33 year old physiotherapist lives and trains in Melbourne, a stronghold of Australian race-walking. Quentin holds the NZ records for 3000m, 20km and 50km race walks. Quentin is coached by Brett Vallance and belongs to Wellington Harrier Athletic Club.

19 Jake Robertson Event: 10,000m Age: 28 Birthplace: Hamilton Club: Hamilton City Hawks PB: 27: best: 27:28 (10km road) Career Highlights: 1 st 2018 Houston half Marathon 1 st 2017 Lisbon Half Marathon 1 st New Orleans 10km 2017 & nd 2017 Great North Run half Marathon NZ marathon record holder Ranked in the top 4 NZ all-time in 4 events Jake represented New Zealand in 5,000m and 10,000m at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 finishing ninth and seventh respectively. He also completed that double at the 2013 World Championships. He has had two major victories over the half marathon distance winning in Lisbon in 2017 and Houston 2018, recording 60:01 on both occasions. Zane is the fourth fastest New Zealander over 5000m and 10,000m, equal fastest over 10km and the second fastest over the half marathon behind his twin brother Zane and recently set the NZ marathon record. His first New Zealand appearance was at the 2005 World Youth Championships and he has represented New Zealand at the 2011 World Cross Country Championships, 2011 and 2013 World Championships, and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Jake and his twin brother Zane left New Zealand as 17 year olds to live and train in Kenya. Jake is a member of Hamilton City Hawks Athletics. 20 Zane Robertson Event: 10,000m, Marathon Age: 28 Birthplace: Hamilton Club: Hamilton City Hawks PB: 27:33.67 (NZ record), best: -, - Career Highlights: 3 rd 2014 Commonwealth Games 5000m 12 th 2016 Olympic Games 10,000m NZ record holder10,000m, 10km and half marathon Ranked in the top 4 NZ all-time in 6 events Zane was the Bronze medallist in the 5000m at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in At Rio 2016 he finished 12 th in the 10,000m, running 27:33.67 slashing nine seconds from Dick Quax s NZ record. In 2015 African based Zane ran an amazing 59:47 half marathon in Japan to slash 2 minutes from the New Zealand record and become the fourth fastest non-african ever over the distance. Zane has become one of the most versatile distance runners New Zealand has produced, ranked the fourth fastest New Zealander on the all-time list for 1500m, Mile, 3000m, the third fastest over 5000m, the fastest over 10,000m, 10km and the quickest ever over the half marathon. His first New Zealand appearance was at the 2011 World Cross Country Championships and he has represented New Zealand at the 2017 and 2013 World Championships, the 2014 World Indoor Championships, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games as well as the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Zane and his twin brother Jake left New Zealand as 17 year olds to live and train in Africa, spending time in both Ethiopia and Kenya. Zane is a member of Hamilton City Hawks Athletics. His personal bests: 1500m 3:34.19, 3000m, 7:41.37, 5000m 13:13.83, 10,000m 27:33.67 (NZ record), 10km, 27:28 (NZ record), half marathon 59:47 (NZ record)

21 Holly Robinson Event: F46 Javelin Age: 23 Birthplace: Christchurch Club: Athletics Taieri Coach: Raylene Bates PB: (NZ record) 2018 best: Career Highlights: 2nd 2016 Rio Paralympics 2 nd 2017 World Para Athletics Championships Holly first represented New Zealand at the London 2012 Paralympic Games placing seventh. Four years later at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games she won the silver medal. She placed second in the F46 Javelin at the 2017 World Para Athletics World Championships in London with a throw of 42.41m, just below her New Zealand record of set earlier in the year. Robinson, from the Taieri club in Dunedin, trains under coach Raylene Bates.

22 Nick Southgate Event: Pole Vault Age: 23 Birthplace: Auckland Club: North Harbour Bays Coach: Jeremy McColl PB: 5.47m 2018 best: 5.35m Career Highlights: 9 th 2017 World University Games. 4 th 2011 World Youth Championships. 6 x NZ pole vault champion The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be Nick s first major international competition. He started his international career by finishing fourth at the 2011 World Youth Championships. At his most recent international competition he finished ninth at the 2017 World University Games. Nick set his personal best of 5.47 finishing second at the Australian Championships in He has won the last six NZ Championship pole vault titles. Nick competes for the North Harbour Bays club and is coached by Athletics NZ high performance pole vault coach Jeremy McColl.

23 Tom Walsh Event: Shot Put Age: 26 Birthplace: Timaru Club: South Canterbury Athletic Club Coach: Dale Stevenson PB: 22.67m (NZ record) 2018 best: 22.67m Career Highlights: 1 st 2017 World Championships 1 st 2018 World Indoor Champs 1 st 2016 World Indoor Champs 3 rd 2016 Rio Olympics 2nd 2014 Commonwealth Games Winner 9 consecutive NZ shot put titles Gold Coast will be Tom s second Commonwealth Games. In Glasgow 2014 he won silver. Tom also finished third at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Tom placed fourth at his first World Championships, in Beijing 2015, and then became New Zealand s first ever athletics male world champion at the London 2017 World Championships. Since then he won the 2018 World Indoor Championships to retain his 2016 title. Recently Tom extended his personal best and NZ record to 22.67m. Noone has thrown further since Tom is originally from Geraldine and now lives and trains in Christchurch. He works part-time as a builder when he is not training and competing overseas. Coached by Athletics NZ High Performance Programme coach Dale Stevenson with input from strength and conditioning expert Angus Ross, Tom competes for South Canterbury Athletic Club.
