Sailing with us is a positive challenge - both physically and mentally - and it is a unique opportunity to experience one of the world s most famous windjammers. On board you will find new friends from various countries. Christian Radich has had up till 13 nations on one leg - a truly international crew! As trainee, you will participate in the duties on board according to your own condition and interests. No previous knowledge is required in order to join this historical ship. We focus on sailing as much as possible, although weather conditions may sometimes force us to utilise the engine. Everyone will join in on the duties. During calm seas, trainees often practice knots, sailing skills and seamanship. To join a voyage, the age limit is 15 years old (on departure date), and 12 years when sailing with parents on non-race legs. For participants over 70, we have to accept your medical certificate of fitness. There is no upper age limit, but you must be fit enough to actively participate in the work on board. We will try to sail as much as possible, and hope the winds will help us and our enthusiastic trainees on our way. Harlingen is the first host city for the Tall Ships Races.

Race 1 from Harlingen to Fredrikstad Christian Radich is among the favorites after several victories in the Tall Ships Races in the last 10 years.

4 chr radic ENG 2014_Layout Side 4 The Voyages Great start from Oslo to Harlingen The summer voyages start from Sandefjord where Christian Radich was built in We will go straight into the Skagerrak, and find the best possible winds. We will do as much sailtraining as we can, which is important for the races later on. We will try to sail as much as possible, and hope the winds will help us and our enthusiastic trainees on our way. Harlingen is the first host city for the Tall Ships Races. It is a medium-sized port, with real Dutch atmosphere, just a short train ride from Amsterdam. Here we meet the other participants for three days of festivities. Race 1 from Harlingen to Fredrikstad Christian Radich is among the favorites after several victories in the Tall Ships Races in the last 10 years. The race will be intense, and when we arrive in Fredrikstad, we hope to do it with honor. Fredrikstad hosted the Tall Ships Races in The city arranged many memorable events during the three days, when the world's finest sailing vessels were visiting the harbor. We can t wait to come back! "Cruise in Company" from Fredrikstad to Bergen This is a pleasant voyage with other ships, visiting beautiful harbors. The captain knows the waters well and we will pass close to the Norwegian coastline. We are invited to visit several of the harbors and will surely accept some of them. During the short visits we will enjoy good time with competing vessels and their crews, who come from many nations. After the visits, we will sail as much as we can. When we arrive in Bergen, they are preparing for celebration. They will mark the 200th anniversary of Norway`s Constitution and the 100th anniversary of " Statsraad Lehmkuhl ". The Tall Ships Races ends in the pleasant town of Esbjerg in Jutland`s southwestern coastline.

Short voyage from Esbjerg to Warnemünde, via the Kiel Canal Our next port is Warnemünde, close to Rostock. The whole area is characterized by a four-day festival with sailing ships.

5 chr radic ENG 2014_Layout Side 5 Race 2 from Bergen to Esbjerg After pleasant days in Bergen we do our best to prepare our best sails again, and the expectations rise before the start of the final race to Esbjerg. The leg is challenging, we can expect shifting winds, and we must sail in a safety distance from the many oil installations in the North Sea. Tactical planning can be crucial, and we expect great excitement on board. We will probably also make several spectacular tacks in order to finish first. The Tall Ships Races ends in the pleasant town of Esbjerg in Jutland`s southwestern coastline. There will be celebration for three days and it is always exciting to see which ship will win the final award this year. Short voyage from Esbjerg to Warnemünde, via the Kiel Canal Our next port is Warnemünde, close to Rostock. The whole area is characterized by a four-day festival with sailing ships. We are planning to sail if it will be possible, the first and second day from Esbjerg. The passage through the Kiel Canal will begin on the evening of the second day. Early next morning, we will go through the locks at Kiel. If we are lucky with the winds, we will set sail again to Warnemünde. Warnemünde Copenhagen From Warnemünde we go by engine to Copenhagen. This leg gives you a taste of the Christian Radich atmosphere. We are in calm waters. So you can join, even if you the fear the ocean or sea sickness. Fair winds from Copenhagen to Oslo From Copenhagen we plan a voyage with spacious time in order to sail a lot. From the time we go out of the Øresund and straight up to Drøbaksundet in the Oslofjord, we hope to sail all the way. We will cross back and forth in Skagerrak, this leg is perfect for those of our friends who prioritize sailing above everything else. Among your duties are lookout, fire-and safety patrols, sail manoeuvres and steering, all performed under professional supervision. During races, our professional crew do most of the steering.

The trainees sleep either in hammocks or bunk beds in two comfortable, airconditioned orlops (dormitories) below deck.

6 chr radic ENG 2014_Layout Side 6 Practicalities Christian Radich can accommodate 80 trainees. Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off - both day and night. Among your duties are lookout, fire-and safety patrols, sail manoeuvres and steering, all performed under professional supervision. During races, our professional crew do most of the steering. In particular, the sail manoeuvres are demanding, but very spectacular. Entering the rig is the ultimate event to many, but if you don t feel like it, please tell the crew. The trainees sleep either in hammocks or bunk beds in two comfortable, airconditioned orlops (dormitories) below deck. The ship has modern shower facilities, serves 3 excellent meals per day and has a small slope chest where you may buy souvenirs, toothpaste, snacks etc. Special clothing or other equipment is not necessary. Rainwear and warm, windproof clothes are perhaps the most important things to remember. Christian Radich sailed as a training ship until 1998 and almost 17000 Norwegian students have had their basic marine education on board.

During the summer season, Christian Radich - the national pride - offers sail voyages for trainees and school classes.

During winter, we sail for the Norwegian Navy, only interrupted by sail voyages in Southern Europe.

A professional, permanent crew of 15-20 persons will introduce you to life on board the ship and make you familiar with 1360 m2 of sails and 9000 meters of rope.
