XXX xxxxxxxxxxx TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: This is to certify that the undersigned surveyor at the request of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, attended the sailboat in and out of the water on the xxx day of xxx and in the year 2xxx, at xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and did survey said vessel for Mr. xxxxxxx, while representing his interest as a prospective buyer. The vessel is a Caliber 40 LRC sloop built by Caliber Yachts, located at th Circle North, Clearwater, Florida, (telephone number ), in the year xxxx, as hull identification number xxxxxxxxxxxx. The vessel s approximate measurements are: LOA 40 11, LOD 39 11, LWL 32 6, BEAM 12 8, DRAFT 5 1, BALLAST 9,500 lbs., and DISPLACEMENT 21,600 lbs. The vessel's documentation number is xxxxxx. The vessel s registration number is MD4763BT. The current owner is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. ALL MAJOR HULL MEMBERS, wherever accessible, together with all surfaces, joints, bonds, fillets, webs, bulkheads, and hard curve areas were carefully inspected with particular care being devoted to areas of normal stress concentrations and possible bulkheads or other hard spots. Field methods of sounding and visual sighting were used. Also, the use of a moisture meter to determine the moisture content of the hull, decks, and other areas which could retain moisture causing damage to the vessel. HULL CONSTRUCTION: the vessel was built on a fiberglass hull and constructed with resin, woven roven, and fiberglass mat. The hull s exterior finishing is a gel coat glazing. The deck and cabin top was built as a one-piece unit and bonded to the hull at the vessel s sheer. I have noted the following: a) The foredeck is solid and in good, structural condition with no significant delamination or voids. The teak and stainless steel bow sprit is well secured and in good condition. b) The catwalks are solid. However, the starboard side catwalk has some delamination and high moisture around the chain plates. The moisture starts just forward of the lower shroud and run to the aft lower. There is elevated moisture around the chain plates on the port catwalk.

3 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 3 of 29 HULL CONSTRUCTION (cont.) c) The cabin top is solid and in good, structural condition with no significant delamination or voids. d) The cockpit deck is solid and in good, structural condition with no significant delamination or voids. There is elevated moisture around the pedestal. e) No signs of blisters on the bottom of the hull. No voids were found in the lay up of the hull. There are no signs of major repairs, damage, or hard grounding. There are a few areas of rough paint.

The hull runs fair with no signs of damage. h) Where accessible for inspection, the hull to deck seam appears to be in good condition with no signs of separation. i) The mast step is in good condition. However, there is some oxidation on the very bottom of the mast. j) The fiberglass to resin ratio is good. k) The resin appears to have cured well. l) The tabbing accessible for inspection appears to be in good order and well secured to the hull supports and structural members. m) The engine bed is in good condition with no signs of separation or structural fatigue. n) The bulkheads are in good condition.

MACHINERY: said vessel s auxiliary power is a Yanmar 4JH2E, fresh water cooled, diesel engine. The engine s serial number is xxxxx. The engine is rated at 3,400 rpms. I have noted the following:

6 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 6 of 29 MACHINERY (cont.) a) The water intake hoses are in fair condition. The hose is double hose clamped. b) The exhaust hoses are in fair condition. The exhaust system is double hoses clamped as per ABYC standard P sections 1, 2, and 3. c) The water circulation hoses are in fair condition. The hoses are the original. d) The riser and water jacket are in good condition. e) A boot is installed to cover the starter cable terminal end as per ABYC standard E However, the positive terminal on the alternator is not covered. f) The linkage appears to be in good order. g) Oil appeared to be clean with no metal fragments or unusual odor. h) The engine belts are in fair condition. i) The motor mounts are in fair condition. The motor mounts are the original.

7 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 7 of 29 MACHINERY (cont.) j) The fiberglass muffler appears to be well secured and no signs of leaks. Refer to the sea trial for additional comments. SEACOCKS, STRAINERS, AND THRU-HULL FITTINGS: the seacocks are readily accessible and the handles are easy to operate as per ABYC standard H The thru-hull fittings do have backup boards. The vessel is equipped with bronze ball valves. I have noted the following: a) The seacock for the engine intake is in good working order. b) The seacock for the air conditioner worked. c) The two seacocks for the head intakes worked. d) The two seacocks for the head discharges worked. e) The seacock for the galley sink worked. f) The two seacocks for the head sinks worked. g) The seacock for the refrigeration worked. h) The handle on the seacock for the tank discharge is obstructed by the hoses. i) The seacock for future raw water intake is not properly capped. j) The Groco strainer for the engine intake appears to be in satisfactory condition. The plastic strainer for the air conditioner is in fair condition.

8 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 8 of 29 SEACOCKS, STRAINERS, AND THRU-HULLS (cont.) k) The thru-hull fittings below the waterline appear to be well secured to the hull; the thru-hulls are painted over. The plastic thru-hull fittings above the water line are weathered; they are the original thru-hulls. STEERING SYSTEM: pedestal wheel steering system. The linkage, pins, cable, and other mechanical fittings are in satisfactory condition. The quadrant gear is in good order. I did not notice any meat hooks on the steering cable at the time of my inspection. The nut that secures the wheel on the pedestal is loose. Refer to the sea trial for operation. RUDDER: fiberglass skeg attached rudder, which appears to be solid and in good condition. There was no play in the rudder shaft log. There is gel coat blisters at the top of the skeg. PROP: three-blade bronze prop, which is in good condition. When tested, the blades ran out true. The size of the prop was inaccessible, since the prop was painted over.

9 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 9 of 29 SHAFT: 1¼ stainless steel shaft, which appears to be in good condition. There is no visual signs of pitting. The shaft appears to be straight. The targeting of the shaft is good.

10 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 10 of 29 CUTLASS BEARING: needs to be replaced. STRUT: two piece cast bronze unit, which is well bonded to the hull. The strut was painted over. SHAFT PACKING GLAND: compression type packing gland, which has ample adjustment remaining. The rubber is in good condition. The unit is double hose clamped. GALVANIC PROTECTION: the vessel is equipped with sacrificial anode protection. The shaft zinc is in fair condition. The vessel does not have a bonding system. RIGGING: HARDWARE - the two Lewmar #48 self-tailing two-speed primary winches are well secured to the coamings, in good condition, and in good working order. The two Lewmar #30 self-tailing two-speed winches are in good condition, good working order, and well secured to the cabin top. The two Lewmar #24 halyard winches are in good condition, good working order, and well secured to the mast. As part of routine maintenance, the winches should be lubricated. The vessel is equipped with a Furlex roller furling system. The foil appears to be straight, and the swivel is in good condition. The roller furling system did work. The sheaves and blocks are in usable condition. However, the rims on the turning blocks at the mast are chipping away. STANDING RIGGING a) Seldon aluminum keel step mast with boom and double set of foil spreaders. The mast appears to be straight and in good condition. The boom appears to be straight, and the gooseneck is in

11 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 11 of 29 RIGGING (cont.) good condition. All stainless steel hardware accessible for inspection appear to be in good condition. The mast was not unstepped, so the mast head and the top fittings could not be inspected. b) The open-face, chrome plated turnbuckles appear to be in good condition. Ample adjustment remains on the turnbuckles. The threads are in good condition, and the studs are straight. c) All swedged fittings that were accessible for inspection appear to be in good order. I did not detect any wires pulling from the fittings. No structural defects noted at the time of my inspection. d) The stays and shrouds accessible for inspection appear to be in good order. The jackstay is kinked half way up. e) The chain plates are well secured to the hull with no signs of structural weakness or fatigue. RUNNING RIGGING: all in satisfactory condition.

12 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 12 of 29 SAILS: I have noted the following: a) The mainsail is in fair condition. It is the original sail. b) The Meade Breeze genoa is in good condition. The resin quality is good. VENTILATION: does meet all requirements as per U.S.C.G. regulation and ABYC standard H-32. The ventilation system is natural forced air. FUEL SYSTEM: the vessel is equipped with two fiberglass fuel tanks. I have noted the following: a) The deck fill ports are properly marked as per ABYC standard H b) The tanks are vented. The vent hoses are in good condition. c) The fuel fill hoses are type A-2 hose. The hoses are in good condition. Both ends of the hoses are double hose clamped. d) The fuel feed hose is type A-1 hose and in good condition. e) There is very little area for inspection of the fuel tanks. However, there were no diesel odor or visual signs of leaks. f) The installation of the fuel tanks does comply with ABYC standard H-33. g) The six shut off valves worked. h) The two Raycor fuel filters are in good condition.

13 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 13 of 29 CABIN HEATER: the vessel is equipped with an Espar cabin heater. The cabin heater did work. However, there is an improper fuel connection. Also, the hose is slid over tubing and equipped with a plastic inline filter. I had no information on the fuel line UL that it is approved for marine use. ELECTRICAL: 12 VOLT SYSTEM - negative ground system with a circuit breaker panel, three Blue Seas battery switches which worked, a Heart Interface 2000 inverter, and a Whistler inverter. The Whistler inverter s output was 106 volts. The Heart inverter s output was 119 volts. The panel does not show proper readings and does not give the proper output according to the owner of the vessel. I have noted the following: a) The vessel is equipped with six Series 27 gel cell batteries. b) The batteries are secured to the hull as per ABYC standard E The positive terminal ends are covered as per ABYC standard E c) I did not detect any wiring violations and/or safety hazards with the 12 volt system. d) All of the cabin lights worked.

14 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 14 of 29 ELECTRICAL (cont.) 120 VOLT SYSTEM - single 30 amp single phase system with a circuit breaker panel. The wiring does meet ABYC standard E-11. The wiring appears to have been factory installed. There was no signs of overheating behind the electrical panel. The galley and heads are equipped with GFI receptacles. open 120 volt wire connection There is a 120 volt wire connection for the air conditioner pump is open in a storage locker in the main cabin on the starboard side. The 30 amp yellow shore power cord is in good condition.

15 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 15 of 29 AIR CONDITIONER: the vessel is equipped with a 16,000 BTU Marine Air air conditioner, serial number xxxxxxxxxx. The water intake hose is in good condition. The hose is not double hose clamped at the seacock. The air conditioner is not properly wired due to open wire connection in the a storage locker The unit is adequately vented. The air conditioner did work. BILGE: bilge was clean at time of my inspection BILGE PUMPS: the forward bilge is equipped with a Rule pump and a Shur Flo diaphragm pump with a float switch. The pumps are secured to the hull. The pumps are properly wired. The pumps did work at time of the survey. The discharge hoses are in good condition. The aft bilge is equipped with manual Whale pump, which is secured to the hull. The discharge hose is in good condition. The pump did work. FIRE PROTECTION: ABYC standard A-4 Table II states that a vessel 40 in length is required to be equipped with three B-1 type, U.S.C.G. approved fire extinguishers, mounted in the following locations: outside engine compartment, steering position and galley, if equipped with a stove, or passenger cockpit. A 2007 dry chemical fire extinguisher is mounted in the engine compartment. A foam extinguisher by the companionway steps. A lb. B.C. dry chemical fire extinguisher is located in a locker in the cockpit. The locker is not labeled as to the location of the extinguisher. A 1998 B.C. dry chemical fire extinguisher is mounted in the forward cabin. The vessel is not equipped with smoke or carbon monoxide detectors. PLUMBING: the hoses and lines appear to have been properly ran throughout the vessel. All of the hoses below the waterline are not double hose clamped. The drains, faucets, and fixtures are

16 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 16 of 29 PLUMBING (cont.) in fair condition. The dock side feed for the fresh water leaks on the interior side. The Jabsco shower sump pump with a float switch installed in a self contained box appears to have been properly installed. The pump did work. The 12 volt Shur Flo fresh water pressure pump with an accumulator appears to have been properly installed. The pump did work. The vessel is equipped with two fiberglass fresh water tanks. A 11 gallon electric Seaward hot water heater, serial number xxxxxxx, with hot water exchange appears to have been properly installed. The hot water heater did work. GALLEY: the galley is equipped with the following: a) Double stainless steel sinks with a faucet for hot and cold pressure water. The drain hose is in good condition. b) The Galley Maid propane three-burner stove with oven is well secured and appears to be in good condition. The stove does gimbal and is equipped with an emergency shut off switch,

17 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 17 of 29 GALLEY (cont.) which was located on the front of the stove. The feed hose appears to be original hose. The stove did work. c) The molded fiberglass insulated ice box with an Adler Barbour refrigeration unit is in good condition. The refrigeration unit worked and reached a temperature of 15. HEADS: two Raritan manual marine toilets with a fiberglass holding tank. The discharge hoses are in good condition. The head intake hoses are in good condition. The heads are in good working order.

18 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 18 of 29 DECK HARDWARE: the deck hardware appears to be well bonded to the hull. As part of routine maintenance, the deck hardware should be pulled and rebedded in a polysulfide compound. I would personally recommend installing aluminum or stainless steel backup plates behind the deck cleats. NAVIGATION LIGHTS: combination red and green light work, stern light, and steaming light did work at time of the survey. Due to the sunlight, I could not determine if the anchor light worked. The red/green light lens is wired on the frame. The deck lights on the spreaders worked. The deck light on the mast did not work. ELECTRONICS: the electronics appear to have been properly installed. The vessel is equipped with the following: a) The Standard Horizon VHF worked. b) The Raytheon depth finder did work. c) The Raytheon fish finder did work. d) The knot meter did not work.

19 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 19 of 29 ELECTRONICS (cont.) e) The Raytheon wind machine worked. f) The Raytheon autopilot worked. g) The Raymarine GPS gave the test reading / h) The Furuno radar worked. The radar antenna post was found to be poorly secured, and I believe it may be a problem in a heavy seaway. i) The pedestal mounted Ritchie compass is in good condition. j) The Icom single side ban antenna was not installed. The owner stated the unit does work. The single side ban appears to be properly installed. PORTS AND HATCHES: I have noted the following: a) The fiberglass forward hatch appears to be well secured and in good condition with no signs of leaks. b) The three Lewmar skylight hatches are well secured and in satisfactory condition. The Plexiglas has some checking. c) The chrome opening ports are well secured and in good condition with no signs of leaks. d) The Plexiglas main hatch with teak trim and a seahood is in good condition. The bi-doors are in satisfactory condition. e) The anchor hatch has very high moisture around the handle. Other than that, the hatch is in satisfactory condition.

20 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 20 of 29 PORTS AND HATCHES (cont.) GROUND TACKLE: 45 lb. CQR anchor and Bruce anchor with 5/16 galvanized chain and three strand nylon line. The ground tackle is in good condition. The ground tackle is properly sized for said vessel. WINDLASS: 12 volt Progress I windlass. The windlass is well secured. The foot switch did not work. The drum on the windlass is in poor condition.

The stainless steel three-step swim ladder with plastic steps is in good condition. CANVAS: the bimini is in fair condition. The dodger is in fair condition with a few small holes. The grab rails on the dodger are loose.

23 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 23 of 29 SEA TRIAL REPORT On xxxxx, I attended the sea trial that was performed on the Caliber 40, hull identification number xxxxxxxxxxxxx, while representing the interest of Mr. xxxxx. I have noted the following: ENGINE The vessel reached a maximum of 3,800 rpms. There was no shaft vibration. No unusual noises were detected. There were no exhaust, water, or oil leaks found. The alternator charged at volts. The engine reached a working temperature of 148. The transmission shifted well, and I did not have any problems finding neutral, forward, or reverse. STEERING SYSTEM In good working order with no sluggishness or play. PACKING GLANDS The shaft packing gland is in good condition. The rudder gland is in good condition.

24 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 24 of 29 RECOMMENDATIONS SAFETY ITEMS AND STRUCTURAL ITEMS a) Cover the positive terminal on alternator. b) Feed hose for the Espar cabin heater needs to be A-1 Fuel hose or copper tubing. Note that hose connections need to be fitted on hose nipples and properly clamped. Remove the inline fuel filter, as it is not UL approved for marine use. c) Terminate the seacock that is not in use with a threaded plug. The forward seacock for the holding tank will need to have the obstructing hoses relocated, so not to interfere with the operation of the seacock. d) Install label on lockers where fire extinguishers are installed. Install new fire extinguishers in the above given locations. e) Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. f) The 120 volt wire connection for the air conditioner needs to be placed into a junction box. g) Double hose clamp all hoses below the waterline.

REPAIR ITEMS a) The spider stress cracks can be grind out and gel coat applied to match surrounding area. b) The deck areas with high moisture will need to be dried out. If these areas can not be dried out by conventional means, recoring will be required. The wet delaminated area on the catwalk will need to be recored. c) Repair the windlass and replace winch drum on windlass. Believe it may be a corrosion issue. d) Replace the cutlass bearing and align the engine. e) Repair the blisters on the top end of the skeg. f) Replace the panel for the Heart inverter. g) Replace the fresh water dock side receptacle. h) Repair the mast deck light. i) Replace the red/green navigation light assembly. j) Repair the aft right corner of the anchor hatch where the lifting latch is attached. k) Repair canvas as needed and tighten the grab rails on the dodger. l) Replace staysail shroud.

26 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 26 of 29 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE a) All winches need to be pulled apart, cleaned, and greased. b) Replace all worn and weathered sheaves and blocks for the rigging. c) As part of preventive maintenance, all plastic thru-hull fittings above the waterline should be replaced. d) Replace the engine belts and the circulation hoses for the engine. e) Pressure test the fuel tanks and take a bottom sample f) Rebed all deck hardware with a polysulfide compound. g) Rebed the chain plates as soon as possible. h) The windows and ports and hatches need to be rebedded. i) Spray motor mounts shaft coupling with spray oil. j) Remove rough areas of bottom paint, touch up as needed.

27 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 27 of 29 SURVEYOR S SUGGESTIONS 1) Install a water maker 2) Install a wind generator or solar panels or both 3) Provide emergency life raft when going offshore 4) Install a feathering prop (Max prop) 5) Install a dripless packing gland for the engine shaft 6) Supply extra rigging cable along with Norsemen mechanical terminal fittings,or similar brand, for emergency repairs at sea

28 PURCHASE SURVEY #XXX PAGE 28 of 29 COMMENTS On the day of the survey, there was light winds out of the south, sunny skies with temperature in the upper 70 s. The sea trial went well. I felt that the rpms on the engine was about 400 rpms too high. Note that one degree of prop pitch would be equal to 200 rpms on the engine. The vessel appear to have been well kept and overall in very good condition for its age. The mast was not unstepped for inspection. I would suggest some time in the near future to pull the mast, rebed the mast collar, replace the sheaves at the top of the mast, and clean the bottom of the mast, as well as inspect the inside at the mast step. In consideration of a trans Atlantic crossing, I would suggest replacing all the standing rigging due to vessel s age. The fuel tanks should be bottom sampled and I would suggest testing for leaks as part of preventive care. CONCLUSION The vessel is suitable for the manufacturer s intended use. With consideration given to the condition of the vessel, optional equipment, market condition, and the use of the BUC Book, it is hereby my professional opinion that an appraised value for said vessel can be placed at $xxxxxxxxxx, with repairs made, and a replacement value of $xxxxxxxxx. I would advise to request for a full disclosure from the current owner and obtaining a estimate of all repairs before settlement.
