HERD HEALTH: All cattle have been vaccinated for 7-Way, Blackleg, Haemophilus, IBR, P13, BVD, Pasturella, BRSV, and received Ivomec for internal and external parasites. 3 Hosts Welcome GALEN FRENZEN FAMILY ANGUS & POLLED HEREFORDS FULLERTON, NE. Welcome to our annual bull and female production sale. We appreciate your interest in our program and attendance at our sale. Last year when I was writing this letter I didn t have the slightest inclination of the changes, challenges or historic events we would experience in the next twelve months. Although we have experienced many challenging changes, our operation has not changed in our goals and objectives. We still strive to produce and reproduce in a fault-filled environment, and to provide the best service possible. As you can see from the pictures, Eric plays with and competes against players a lot bigger than himself. He has been quite successful, however, because he was focused and was a young man on a mission. Likewise here at Frenzen s we aren t real big, but we feel we can compete against the bigger and more highly promoted operations because we are focused on our mission of producing sound, functional seed stock. She helps out here part time, spent two weeks in Denver at the Stock Show, and has been helping other people with their show cattle. Her engagement to Kevin Bremer has not progressed to any wedding plans. Tessa: Tessa and Cody Adams were married on a beautiful sun shiny day (after two weeks of cloudy, wet weather) at a neat country Lutheran church north of Creighton. They live near Vail, Arizona. Tessa is an agricultural specialist with the Department of Homeland Security at the Port of Entry at Nogales. Cody works for the Border Patrol out of Sonoita, AZ. Quite a change for two Nebraska farm kids. Eric: He has finished his schooling at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont and will officially graduate in May. He finished his college football career with numerous team and conference accolades. He is back home working and is truly appreciated. 4 1 Frenzen Unique U Yearling Angus Bulls These Yearling Bulls were raised by their dams on pasture and have seen no creep. They have been running together in a large trap to ensure they get plenty of exercise. Their ration consists of modified wet distillers, ground straw, stover or low quality hay, a mineral supplement and 3#/head/day of dryland (100 bu./acre) corn silage. This extremely low starch diet keeps them sound in their feet and joints, hard muscled and athletic. These bulls may not be as heavy as others or look as thick - but they won t melt away this summer. 32 Dear Friends, Another year has past and it s time again to prepare our offering with the Frenzen Family for their 2009 Production Sale. The beef industry like all other segments in the business world has had to adjust to economic challenges. Remember that old rule of thumb that supply and demand still sets the course for the economy? Oil prices for example pushed to the limits influenced bio fuel production which in turn used several sources of feed stuffs for livestock and humans. Demand decrease in resistance to high prices broke the bubble and all that changed in a matter of months. In time we will be back in balance much like the way nature sends up new growth after a prairie fire. We in agriculture see and deal with nature everyday. The world population continues to grow as does the need for food and fiber thus demand will rise. January 1 st USDA cattle and calf inventory gives an estimate of a US cattle herd 1.6% less than last year and the smallest since The largest annual decline since Seems like a reduced supply. Reducing input cost in our cow herd and the finished end product from the feed lot is a must. One key to that success is to improve the genetics in our cowherd. We develop our bulls to be feed efficient, strong in carcass traits, and strong maternal traits. These are the traits we feel are the most important to be successful in making a profit. Due to request we have also included a group of yearling heifers from our replacements in our offering. These can make great youth projects and develop into top producing cows. 37 Angus & Polled Hereford Yearling Heifers This is an outstanding group of heifers. Every one was selected with the ultimate goal of developing into a top producing Brood Cow. Several have the potential for being competitive show heifers. These heifers have seen no creep and have been vaccinated for bangs, Vibrio, Lepto and vaccinated with Phizer s BoviSheild Gold FP 5VL5. Since weaning, they have been running on cornstalks and receiving a ration desired to express their genetic growth, yet keep them sound and functional. Our cows run on 8 different pastures. They range from good hard grass to straight brome on clay hills. Because we don t creep and we have a broad range of grass quality, there is often a wide range in weaning weights. Don t discount an individual if you feel the weaning weight is sub par.
