Nitrogen trichloride can form in small amounts in public water supplies and in swimming pools between disinfecting chlorine and urea in urine from bathers(twa of 0.5 mg/m 3 ). 15 th Annual OSC Readiness Training Program 31

34 Cylinder Content Treatment Acetylene Flammable range: 2.5 to 81% Although acetylene will not undergo combustion at concentrations above the UFL, it can undergo an explosive decomposition reaction, even at concentrations of 100%. This is dependent on pressure container size, shape and presence of an ignition source. Acetone or Dimethyl-formamide (DMF). To minimize the withdrawal of the solvent, acetylene should be withdrawn at a rate of 1/7 of the cylinder s rated capacity when full. Cylinder capacity divided by 7. Above 15 psi acetylene becomes unstable 15 th Annual OSC Readiness Training Program 33
