1 Hazard Assessment Policy Introduction Construction sites, maintenance shops and yards are not without risk of injury. Those circumstances or conditions that pose the risk of an injury or loss must be determined in advance and control strategies implemented to eliminate or reduce the risk. Hazard Assessment Policy Crown Utilities is committed to maintaining a workplace in which safety is part of everything we do and is as important as anything we do. It is our policy that all work activities are assessed in order to identify existing and potential risks to the health or safety of Crown employees, contractors, and/or the public, and that reasonably practicable measures will be taken to eliminate, reduce or control those risks by way of a Job Hazard Assessment (IHA). It is Crown Utilities Policy to adhere to the following: 1. Conduct written hazard assessment of the work site prior to commencement of a new project to identify existing or potential hazards. The hazard assessment will then be done on a daily basis. 2. Where reasonably practicable, Management will involve affected workers in the performance of the hazard assessment and in the control and elimination of those hazards identified by the hazard assessment. 3. Management will ensure that the results of the hazard assessment are communicated to those workers affected by its findings. 4. Management will ensure that the hazard assessment is performed prior to commencement of work on a new job-site: a. Weekly and/or at intervals that is reasonable and practicable to prevent the development of unsafe working practices and conditions b. When a new work procedure is introduced or any conditions to the task; and c. When a work procedure or operation changes d. During daily review at tool-box meetings. All employees, including management and supervisors, are responsible and accountable for the company s overall safety initiatives, following all procedures, working safely, and providing information towards improving all safety measures. Complete and active participation by everyone, every day, in every j oh is necessary to achieve the safety excellence that Crown Utilities expects. Please Note: Action to eliminate or reduce the risk identified must be planned in advance or undertaken immediately on site to prevent any accident, injury or loss. Hazard Definition Any circumstance or condition that exists, or that can potentially result in an accident, injury or loss. What could happen here at this construction site, at this shop, or with our equipment that could result in a fatality, or serious injury? (e.g. an electrocution, burn, asphyxiation, drowning, crushing injury, poisoning, amputation or loss of eyesight, fall from heights, truck rollover, etc.)

2 A Hazard Assessment is a thorough examination of a job site or workplace to identif~ any actual or potential hazards that may result in an accident. A dated and signed record of this activity is to be kept to verify that this very important safety process is taking place on a regular basis.
