2 Why Mt Baw Baw? Mt Baw Baw is Melbourne s closest downhill ski resort, approximately 2.5 hours from the CBD and 1 hour from the Latrobe Valley. The Snow Factory guarantees snow in our learning areas and that we ll have lifts turning all season. Along with our 15 snow making guns we ll be fully equipped to make maximum use of our ski area. 3 2019 Pricing Off-Peak Discounts For the first time the Resort is offering 15% discounts for ski and snowboard lessons during off-peak periods. These discounts are applied before final invoicing. June 11 th to July 12 th OFF-PEAK July 13 th to September 8 th PEAK SCHOOL SEASON September (9 th to 30 th) OFF-PEAK Resort Entry Entry into the resort for school groups arriving via coach charter or cars is discounted. For groups less than 8 or on weekends we may request you pay on arrival rather than being invoiced through our booking system. Day Entry: $12 pp Additional Days: +$4 pp per day after the first day Teachers outside the 1:8 ratio are charged at student prices Snow Sport Lessons Our 300,000m² of skiable terrain will keep students of all ability levels entertained. Our prices are some of the most competitive in Australia. We run cross country, downhill skiing or snowboarding lessons. Lessons times are 10.30am and 2.30pm. but other times may be requested. The tourist drive is very picturesque but the road is narrow and winding. Option 2: South Face Road From the M1, take the turn off at the Moe exit and continue via Erica. Take the left turn off at South Face Road. South Face Road is 26km of unsealed road, but a good wide road & straighter than the Tourist Road. Option 3: Scenic Suburbs The best option from the eastern suburbs is to travel along the Warburton Highway, turning off at Yarra Junction which then joins the Tourist Road at Noojee. Transport Providers Below is a list of bus lines that can travel to Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort. It is a legal requirement to have a Hazardous Area endorsement on drivers license for all vehicles that carry more than 12 passengers. 6 Other Information Snow Sports Levels Our school program can cater for first time skiers or riders to the most advanced. We allocate one instructor per minimum of eight people. We ask that you organise your group around this allocation. First Timer: Never skied or snowboarded before. Skiers - Have skied once or twice before, can ride lifts and make snow plough turns. Snowboarders - can stop and control their speed safely. Intermediate: Can ride or ski on beginners and intermediate runs. Snow Sports Details To maximise your experience ensure students arrive 15 minutes prior to the lesson. In the event you are late we may not be able to reschedule to another time, resulting in cancellation or shortening of your lesson being without refund. Helmets are required for all Snow Sports lesson participants under the age of 18 years. Helmets can be provided for your lessons. Pre-booking required. We require at least 1 school staff member present to assist with student management. Lessons finish at the designated time due to other lesson start times. Lessons under five students may be combined with a public lesson or reduced at Snow Sports discretion. Activity Details Skiing and Snowboarding: 300,000m² of skiable terrain will keep students entertained. We offer an all-season snow guarantee in our lesson areas and to Tower 2 of Hut Run. Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing: Our extensive cross-country trail network also extends into the National Park. Trail access is free however $5 One Ride Summit passes are available. Looking for something different? Why not give snowshoeing a try in 2019? Japanese Snow Fighting: Originating from Hokkaido, Japan, Yukigassen is a team-based snowball game. Mt Baw Baw is the only Resort in Australia to offer this product to schools. Ski Patrol Safety Talks and Snow Making Tours: Our Safety talk gives your students the right safety information before they head out on the slopes. A tour of the resort s snow making facilities includes our new TechnoAlpin Snow Factory and traditional snow guns. Both activities are delivered by qualified Ski Patrol or Snow Making staff subject to their availability on the day. Tobogganing: Frosti Frog Toboggan Park Was upgraded in 2018 with improved slope and Magic Carpet. Toboggans are available for hire at our Rental store or other private ski hire operators. A toboggan Lift Pass is required when the Magic Carpet is in operation. Enviro Talk and Dingo Resource Centre: Learn about Mt Baw Baw s unique subalpine environment, sustainability issues, the plight of critically endangered species such as the Baw Baw Frog and Leadbeater s possum. Meet our dingoes and explore our interactive Dingo Resource Centre. Enviro Talks run for 45 minutes to 1hr and are age specific, providing students with information relevant to VCE Outdoor and Environmental studies or Victorian/National Curriculum. To discuss educational goals please speak to our Groups Coordinator.
7 School Lesson Procedure ALL Arrive and meet instructors Get split into groups of experience and ability Beginner SKI Introduction to equipment, how a ski works, how to fit boots, taking skis on and off. Flat land exercises, get used to the feeling of skis and boots. Stopping with the Snowplough, on the magic carpet. Single turns in Snow plough, on the magic carpet. Linking turns in Snow plough, on the magic carpet. Learn how to use the poma lift. Link more than two turns together down a longer slope. Continue to practice control, speed and turn changes on varying terrain dependant on group. Practice exercises to enforce learning. Such as slalom through cones. Intermediate SKI Practice runs, to show their ability to the instructor. Dependent on ability the instructor will guide them through drills and exercises to improve their technique on the slopes. Beginner SNOWBOARD Introduction to equipment, how a snowboard works, how to fit boots, taking SB on and off. Flat land exercises, get used to the feeling of the board and boots. Straight gliding. With one foot attached to the board, get used to the feeling of moving & balance awareness. Side slipping on the toes. Get used to sliding down the slope on a single edge. Facing up the hill. Aiming to keep the board horizontal to the hill. Side slipping on the heels. Get used to sliding down the slope the other way on a single edge. Facing down the hill. Aiming to keep the board horizontal to the hill at all times. Falling leaf On the toe edge first then progress to the heel edge. Practice moving the board side to side horizontally across the hill. Garlands. First feeling of having the board facing down the hill, Starting on toes, glide straight, back to toe edge. Garlands on heel edge. Learn how to use the poma, group dependent. Single turn practice. Start on toes, point the board down the hill and end up on the heel edge. Then practice the other way. Linking turns. Start on toes, point the board down the hill then come back to the heel edge. Continue moving forward on the heel edge, point the board down the hill to end up back on the toes. Repeat. Intermediate SNOWBOARD Practice runs, to show their ability to the instructor. Dependent on ability the instructor will guide them through drills and exercises to improve their technique on the slopes.

9 Terms and Conditions: 1.0. Payment and Confirmation: a. Final Confirmation: Final numbers must be confirmed at least 14 days before arrival. b. Final payment: Full payment must be received prior to arrival. Where invoicing has not occurred at least two business days before trip late payment may be allowed subject to the confirmation of Group Coordinator Cancellation/refunds: a. Any cancellation must be made in writing or by phone contact with Group Coordinator. b. Cancellations within 14 days will not be refunded however credit for change of dates is possible (subject to accommodation and lesson availability). c. No refunds will be given for lack of snow outside the Guaranteed areas. d. Any refund or credit will not be given until after the trip date. e. Management strongly recommends Travel Insurance to protect you against loss of personal belongings, public liability, adverse weather conditions and cancellations fees Student Cancellations: Snow sports: f. Any student cancellation notified prior to 14 days of arrival date will receive a full refund. g. Any student cancellations within 14 days of arrival may receive credit for the following snow season, providing a valid medical certificate is supplied Lift Tickets: h. Lost tickets cannot be replaced. i. A student cancellation due to illness/misadventure must be notified prior to arrival date to receive a refund. j. Within 14 days a valid medical certificate must be supplied to receive a refund or credit Resort Entry: any decrease in numbers may be refunded if valid evidence of absence is provided Accommodation: k. Any decrease in numbers before 30 days prior to arrival may be adjusted subject to lodge owner approval. After this time no refund or credit can be given. l. Accommodation is to be left clean and tidy. A cleaning fee of $60/hour will be charged should rubbish or dirty dishes be left behind. m. Failure to check out at the designated time will result in a $25.00 per hour late checkout fee n. Mt Baw Baw s buildings are smoke free environments. A cleaning fee of $ will be charged if smoking is allowed in the lodge Catering: o. Any cancellation within 14 days will not be refunded or credited. Credit may be given for the following snow season with medical certificate Other activities: p. Any cancellation within 14 days will not be refunded. Credit may be given for the following snow season with medical certificate Additional Bookings: a) Any increase in numbers or activities will be invoiced separately. A processing fee of up to $15 applies. It is advised that these are added as early as possible to avoid disappointment. b) Additional numbers for accommodation may not be available if not booking the full lodge General: a) Southern Alpine Resort Management Board disclaims all responsibility and accepts no liability in respect of any errors or misrepresentation and all associated disappointment, loss, inconvenience, expense or injury caused. Without liability, we will not be responsible if the product is not available due to adverse weather conditions, civil unrest, industrial disputes, health risk or terrorist activity. b) I agree to indemnify Southern Alpine Resort Management Board from and against all claim, suits, actions and demands made against Southern Alpine Resort Management Board which arise out of the use of resort accommodation, services and facilities by my group and/or invitees. c) I agree to pay and be responsible for any damage, breakages, theft, losses or key replacement that occurs by your group during your stay. Failure to notify a staff member at the Guest Services Office, at the time, of any such damage or loss may lead to prosecution.
10 4.1 Alpine Responsibility Code: Regardless of how you enjoy your snow sport, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are risks in all snow recreational activities that common sense, protective equipment and personal awareness can reduce. These risks include rapid changes in weather, visibility and surface conditions, as well as natural and artificial hazards such as rocks, trees, stumps, vehicles, lift towers, snow fences and snowmaking equipment. Observe the Code and share with others the responsibility for a great experience. 1. Stay in control and avoid other people and hazards. 2. Use appropriate protective equipment, especially helmets, to minimise the risk of injury. 3. You must have the ability to use each lift safely. If in doubt ask the lift attendant. 4. Obey all signs and warnings, and keep off closed trails and areas; 5. It is your responsibility to avoid and give way to people below and beside; 6. Do not stop where you are not visible from above or where you obstruct a trail; 7. Before starting downhill, or merging into a trail, look uphill and give way to others; 8. Use care to prevent runaway snowboards; 9. If you are involved in or see an accident, alert and identify yourself to Resort Staff; 10. Be aware that it is dangerous to ski, board or ride lifts if your ability is impaired by drugs or alcohol. KNOW THE CODE. IT S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Failure to observe the Code may result in cancellation of your ticket or pass by Ski Patrol or other authorised personnel Resort Entry and Lift ticket Waiver/Exclusion of Liability: EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY ASSUMPTION OF RISK THESE CONDITIONS WILL AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! This ticket is purchased from the Southern Alpine Resort Management Board (the supplier) for the use in the Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort Crown Land Reserve subject to the following conditions: - 1. The Supplier, its employees and agents shall have no liability whatsoever in negligence, breach of contract or statute or statutory duty (including conditions or warranties implied by Section 74 of the Trade Practices Act 1974 or by Part 2A of the Fair Trading Act 1999) to the Entrant/User, their Dependant/s of legal representative for personal injury or death suffered by the Entrant/User arising in any way whatsoever from the supply of recreational services, including but not limited to, skiing, snowboarding, rail jam snowboarding, rail jam skiing, tobogganing, mountain boarding, mountain boarding lessons, skiing or snowboarding lessons, the use of ski lifts, the use of the terrain parks, use of the ride parks, the use of rails and jumps, all ski area services and facilities including snow clearing, operations of the ski patrol, the condition, layout, construction, design or use of pedestrian areas, roads, car parks, buildings, ski runs or slopes or the presence of people or objects thereon or any associated sporting activities or similar leisure time pursuits associated in any way whatsoever with being in Alpine and or snow affected terrain. 2. The Entrant/User acknowledges that these activities are dangerous with many inherent risks as a result of which personal injury (and sometimes death) can occur and the Entrant/User assumes and accepts all risk of personal injury or death in any way whatsoever arising from such activities. 3. WARNING: If you participate in these activities your rights to sue the supplier under the Fair Trading Act 1999 if you are killed or injured because the activities were not supplied with due care and skill or were not reasonably fit for their purpose, are excluded, restricted or modified in the way set out in or on this notice. NOTE: The change to your rights, as set out in or on this notice, does not apply if your death or injury is due to gross negligence on the supplier s part. Gross negligence is defined in the Fair Trading (Recreational Services) Regulations 2004.
11 4. Resort Entry is valid only for the date/s shown. No replacement or refund will be made or in the event of poor climate/snow conditions if any lift service or other facility is not operating or open. The Entrant/User shall comply with the Alpine Responsibility Code and signs or other directions of the supplier and access to lifts, services and other facilities denied at the absolute discretion of the supplier for non-compliance or for reckless or careless conduct. Entry into Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort without having paid for resort entry is an offence. 5. The Entrant/User consents to the taking of photographs by the supplier and agrees that any photographs taken may be used for promotional purposes associated with the Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort.
