2 RR & GC MAY NEWSLETTER Roseburg Rod & Gun Club 875 Old Del Rio Road Roseburg Oregon CLUB UPDATE Earl Skonberg John Feeback, Facilities Maintenance Chairman and club volunteer, has given notice and will be moving out of state in mid-may to be closer to family. John, a former President, Vice President and current board member has been a major force in the management and upkeep of the club for the past 9-10 years. His overall knowledge of club operations, keeping the grounds looking like a park and his expertise in equipment maintenance can never be replaced. He played an integral part in maintaining our partnership with the Douglas County Sheriff Department Inmate Program, which has kept our dues affordable. I, along with the Board of Directors, wish him the best and cannot thank him enough for the thousand of hours and effort he put into making this club what it is today. He will be missed! of the host families and a chance to learn about shotguns and attend a safety class instructed by Mark Anderson, Trap Chairman. All were given an opportunity to shoot several types of shotguns and learn trap-shooting techniques. The group departed at 2:00 p.m. (with a smile on their faces) for a wrestling demonstration that afternoon in Bend, another overnight stay, and then on to several northern Oregon High Schools before returning to NZ. I am sure they will not soon forget the hospitality Roseburg, RHS and our club provided them during their short visit. I thank all the volunteers for their support for this unscheduled and unprecedented event and believe they enjoyed it as much as the kids did. The club was asked to host a one-day event for the visiting 2015 New Zealand Cultural Exchange High School Wrestling team on a tour of Oregon. With Board approval we invited the group for a hands-on black powder demonstration on April 1 st. The 14-member team, ranging in ages from 14 to 18, arrived in Portland after a 12-hour non-stop flight; an overnight stay and arrived in Roseburg for an early morning tour of Roseburg High School and to meet their counterpart wrestling team. Accompanied by a coach, two parents, and three members of the RHS wrestling team, they were bused to the club where volunteers from the black powder discipline put on a demonstration of early firearms used in the development of both their country and ours. After a brief introduction to the club by Kerry Boak, team members were split into pairs and given the opportunity to shoot a variety of firearms. Their excitement was electrifying! They also got to experience a demonstration of Axe-throwing and an opportunity to try to perfect their own skills. At noon, they were bused to the clubhouse for lunch provided by several Membership renewal applications for the coming year (2015/2016) will be mailed by June 1, I encourage everyone to send in his or her dues by the July 1 st deadline. Due to the fact that some members tend to pay their dues late each year, the Board decided that those paying after the deadline this year will have their gate codes disabled on August 1, Reactivating codes requires a considerable amount of time, so please be patient if you should lose access to your club for a while.

3 APRIL BENCH REST MATCH Chuck Engelking Six shooters made it to the April Bench Rest Match. At 100 yds. there was very little wind and four shooters were able to get a perfect 250. In first place was Wes Jackson with 24Xs, second was Jay Conn with 22Xs and third was Chuck Allen with 15Xs. At 200 yds only two shooters were able to get a 250 with Jay Conn leading with an excellent 11Xs, second was Wes Jackson with 5Xs and third was Ron Elliott with 248-5Xs. The final scores had Jay Conn first with Xs (his best score in a Bench Rest Match), Wes Jackson second with Xs and Whitey Williams third with Xs. Next match will be May 17 th. As always, we are looking for a few good ROs to help out as coaches and a chance to join us in sharing your knowledge, and help others enter the world of shooting. We strive to achieve a one-on-one coaching situation whenever possible. I am presently taking sign ups for the May 13 th & 20 th and the June 10 th & 17 th classes. Spread the word, lets get everyone we know to take a firearms safety course and get their Concealed Handgun License. Sign up now! YOUTH DAY Kerry Boak & Jake O Dowd BLACK POWDER MATCH Bill Little Five shooters showed up for the April Black Powder Match and under ideal weather conditions, everyone managed to keep their powder dry. Competition this month was shooting off-hand at both 50 and 75 yards. Hans Bohm took first place with a combined score 227. Don (Curley) Jensen was second with 196; Bill Little was third with 186 while Paul Campbell shot 185. Earl Skonberg, a newcomer to this exciting new sport, brought up the rear with 101 points after overcoming some major difficulties with his newly acquired.45 cal. Thompson. Black Powder Matches are held the second Sunday every month and we welcome the opportunity to share our experience and expertise to anyone interested in learning this great sport. Come out and shoot or just enjoy the fun! The club will hold another Youth Day on Saturday, May 9 th, Open to boys and girls between the ages of 8-18, we request you preregister by calling either of the phone numbers listed above if you intend to participate. Events include Clay Target Shooting, Indoor.22 Range, Archery, Black Powder, and the Laser Shot System. All firearms and ammunition will be provided. (DO NOT bring firearms.) Eye and hearing protection is required at all times. Bring your own, or they will be provided. This event is open to both members and the general public. Adults are required with all youths for supervision.

5 APRIL RIMFIRE MATCH Wes Jackson Seven shooters were at the April Rimfire Match. Conditions were good and four shooters were able to shoot a perfect 250 with Mike Narkiewicz first with 14Xs and Scott Jackson second with 11Xs and Chuck Allen, Jay Conn and Wes Jackson tied for third with 10Xs each. At 75 yds. two shooters were able to get 250 with Scott Jackson & Wes Jackson tied with 3Xs each and Earl Skonberg third with Xs. Final scores had Scott Jackson taking first with Xs, second was Wes Jackson with Xs & Mike Narkiewicz was third with Xs. Next match will be May 3 rd. Brisk, gusty, and switchy winds took their toll on the shooters. All targets were shot at 200 yds. Rick Parra from Springfield had a dandy shot group but Chuck Allen of Roseburg stole the aggregate by.005 from Rick. Rick got his revenge bettering Chuck s aggregate by nearly.600 in the 10 shot groups. Hans Bohm shot well with open sights at 200 yards. We had a great afternoon of game shooting followed by a catered meal by Dan and Kathy Cossey as well as announcements of this year s top shooters. Over a ten-week period we threw close to 23,550 targets.
