The Chapter meeting will follow the Board meeting. Food will be served at about 6:15'ish and the regular meeting will start at about 7:ish. Presentation will be around 8'ish... You can set your watch to that!! Although we weren't intending to have a December meeting, Loren has graciously offered to have an open house of his shop to show off his OneX project. Based on the slide show he gave at the last meeting, this will be a sight to behold. (editor comment) Being a type "A" kinda guy, I will be looking at how organized the place is!!! Latest News!!! I am excited to announce the following board officers to vote on for the term. Mark Pearson and Fernando will continue the new membership drive. Al Drewry will continue to be the clubs connoisseur cook extraordinaire. Jerry Sorrell will remain as our facilities manager and Technical Counselor Guru. I would like to thank Al, Mark and Mark, Eric, Gary, and Jerry for working with me through my term in office. You guys made it exciting, challenging, fun, informative and interesting. Now it is time for the next chapter in our club's history to begin. Thanks for your vote of confidence. We're looking forward to a good year and we should have a lot of fun. I unfortunately cannot make it to the holiday party next month as I'll be on a two week vacation cruise with my wife. We'll be ready to hit the ground running in January though. I am planning on making it to Loren's place to see his Onex project on the 1st though. That's a day or so before leaving on vacation. Regards, Mark Cattell Notes from Earlier Meetings- Exec or otherwise 10 present, 6 officers for the Exec meeting Tax info: Rustin has been working on the tax exempt paperwork and we just about have it whipped. He will prep the cover letter on behalf of the chapter. Al wrote a very big check to Uncle Same to cover these expenses. Page 2 of 8

3 Rustin says- "Go for exempt status from here going forward." It looks like many other EAA chapters are doing the same. Jerry listened to a webinar about how to write the paperwork around these new IRS rules. He felt the webinar was very helpful. He got lots of good info. Regarding hangars.. We are wondering if we could work out an extension of the lease. What will be the new price? Is it worth it because of what we are going thru with the IRS? We have a ground lease that expires in October. What will the city do with it if we give it up? If we get the extension and the price does not go up we stand to continue to benefit from having the hangar. Web page: Our web page is up for renewal in a couple of months. Options are a free EAA web page, George's offered page, or to stay with our current configuration. We really need to talk to George before we make a decision. Each one of these options has its benefits and hindrances... Annual Banquet: We will be doing it at JT's. The annual banquet that is... Tuesday the 6th of December. 6:30'ish. Are we sure we will get the word out? Hoppe will do an early newsletter and flood with s. The Clubhouse doors will be open on the first Thursday for anyone who shows up by habit. Who will get the door prizes? What will they be? What is prudent? How much should we spend? Less than $100?? Let's contact Mr. Irby about the gifts. Dick Savold wanted to be here tonight but couldn't make it. There is a very good chance his plane will be up for sale very soon for a very good price. Treasurer's report: $ in checking and $ in savings. Gary staffed the raffle. 98 bucks in the pot, Mike Proshold won the pot but drew a white chip. This thing is really rigged. We still have some hats for sale. $15 each. They are very cool. There is a Waco UPS7 for sale. Some other panel stuff for sale. Please check out our classifieds for more information. Annual Banquet: We had a show of hands for those going to the annual dinner. We need to make sure we spread the word to get at least 30 people at the dinner. The dinner will be instead of the meeting in December. The clubhouse will be open for those who are on autopilot. There will also be a group meeting at the clubhouse before 7:00 to go over to Lauren's house to check out his awesome One-X project and his even awesomer shop. This suggestion was very well received. All were in favor. Lauren will send Hoppe the address fro dispersal. Presentation: Lauren talked about his Onex. What a freakin' cool little airplane!!! He travelled to Oshkosh this year to check it out. He gave a great slide show about his project. His shop looks fantastic... Very organized. If not, sign up! It is easy and free for EAA members. Interesting stuff Some of the members have asked me why it was necessary to file with the IRS as a tax exempt organization. There are both legal reasons and benefits. First, our annual income exceeds $5,000, so we are not below the IRS radar as a insignificant group. We appear to be an organization that may have some money that can be taxed! Of course we have annual expenses that come close to matching the income, so we try to break even or have a bit of cushion, but that means we are supposed to do annual business tax reports. But we are a non-profit business! Does not matter. IRS looks at the incoming and assumes a tax liability unless there is a legitimate business expense to write off. This gets complex.. Exceeding $5,000 per year happens because of the pass through of the hangar A-6 rental, payments for hangars 44 and 45 and annual dues. Our expenses which consumes nearly all of this income include: EAA annual liability insurance, utilities, Kelso Airport land leases and hangar payments to the city. By filing with the IRS as a 501-c-3 tax exempt corporation, we can avoid paying taxes and also accept donations and gifts without a potential value received tax burden. We can also write a receipt for eligible donations and the person donating may apply this as an exemption on their IRS 1040 long form. Our files are open to IRS audit so we need to keep good records. ---jerry We just finished a new website for homebuilt aircraft. We are trying to grow it to be the world's largest single collection of homebuilt aircraft/project listings. Please visit and list your aircraft for the world to see. A huge benefit of our site is the ability for site browsers to search our site for specific aircraft...ie. all homebuilts with Corvair engines. The website just became live a few days ago. We would greatly appreciate any word of mouth advertising you can pass on to other homebuilders. Thank you very much for your time.
