2 Dear Parent, Following the success of previous years ventures we are again running an Activity Programme in the last week of the Summer Term. This will be scheduled for Monday 17 th July to Friday 21 st July, inclusive. All pupils are expected to be involved in our activities week, during the dates above. We are distributing the programme at this early stage to give you sufficient time to discuss your choices, whilst also giving us the time to plan the various activities. With this in mind, it should be noted that the cost of off-island trips is an approximation at this stage as it is dependent on the final numbers travelling. I would ask you to read the booklet carefully with your son and return the form by post or in person to the reception at College for the attention of Mr Fidrmuc by Monday 31 st October. In the event of an activity being oversubscribed, preference will usually be given to the older boys, although other factors, such as those that returned their forms by the stated date, will be taken into consideration. Consequently your form will be date stamped when it is handed in and it will be in your interest to return the forms ASAP. The majority of pupils get their first choice of activity however occasionally second and third choices are allocated. Please take your time in making all of your activity selections as it may well be necessary to allocate your second or third choice. 3 1. Off-Island Trips Barcelona & Pyrenees (Staff i/c Mr J. Franco) Cost 1,100 (est.) Max Number: 30 Years 8 10 The Barcelona 2016 trip will include an exciting two-day city tour with a mixture of cultural, sporting and gastronomical activities including visits to; Antoni Gaudi s Sagrada Familia & La Pedrera, some of the 1994 Olympic sites, the Nou Camp Stadium. The group will then move into the mountains for 4-5 days of outdoor adventure activities (such as kayaking, mountain biking, rafting etc). The cost includes flights, transportation, accommodation, entry fees, meals and some snacks/extras. We will be flying via Gatwick with British Airways Saturday morning returning the following weekend. CCF Summer Camps (Staff i/c Navy - Lt Taylor) (Staff i/c Army - Lt Coe, Lt Col Stockton & 2Lt Bish) (Staff i/c RAF - Flt Lt Blackmore, Flt Lt Faria & Fg Off McNally) (Staff i/c Bisley - WO Fidrmuc, CI Benest & Lt Norman) Cost: 150 (est.) Max Number: N/A Years 9-13 All CCF Cadets are expected to attend the CCF Summer Camp appropriate to their chosen Section in Year 10 & 12 and additional places may also be available for Years 11 &13. NOTE: Royal Navy Section Cadets in Year 12 can elect to do the Le Mourier or Go-Sail packages. Year 9 Recruits are expected to attend CCF Army Camp as their final Recruit Troop activity. All CCF Sections will run Camps to the UK and Cadets will be at accommodated at a UK MOD establishment. The Camps will include a mix of military and adventurous training along with detailed service specific training. The Bisley School s Meeting will take place the week prior to Activity Week and those selected are expected to remain at Bisley for the Imperial Meeting. Selected Cadets will be excused from attending a Single Service camp

4 Euro Disney / Central Paris (Staff i/c Mrs L. Ogg & Mr M. Widdop) Cost 650 (est.) Max Number: 40 Years 8-10 Two Full Days Exploring Paris. Paris is renowned for its vibrant cafés, its graceful public buildings and stunning modern architecture. Sights of interest on our tour will be: the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Stade De France, Montparnasse Tower, France Miniature, Versailles Palace, plus a relaxing cruise on the River Seine. Two Full Days in Disneyland Both Parks. Discover the magic behind the scenes at Walt Disney Studios Park and let your imagination explore the fascinating world of cinema, animation and television. You will revel in the excitement of Disney Village with non-stop entertainment. There really is something for everyone at Disneyland Resort Paris from the thrill of high speed rollercoasters, to a relaxing walk around Lake Disney. We will also be able to skip the lines with our fast pass tickets! Whatever your age, the magic is closer than you think French Activity Trip Guerlédan (Staff i/c Mrs Roussel) Cost 400 (est.) Max Number: 27 Years 7-9 A five day trip to an activity centre in Brittany. The programme includes canoe-kayaking, mountain biking, archery, climbing, abseiling and orienteering. We will have our own accommodation at the Base de Guerledan which is situated on the edge of the largest lake in Brittany, ensuring that no precious moments are lost in transport all activities start right from the centre. The price is inclusive of all travel, accommodation, food, activities and insurance. Golf in Brittany, France (Staff i/c Mr Gosling & Mr Crill) Cost 650 (est.) Max Number: 22 Years 7-10 Students play between holes on the five full days at five different courses in Brittany. You will stay at a hotel at Chateau Des Ormes ( the course played on the first & last day of the trip. Players must be of a good enough standard to play 27 holes per day. If a player does not have an official handicap he should be capable of playing an 18-hole course (e.g. at Les Mielles) in 110 strokes or better

5 Greece Windsurfing & Watersports (Staff i/c Mr Akers & Mr T.Smith) Cost 1500 (est.) Max Number: 20 Years All Gain your RYA level one or two certificate in windsurfing or dingy sailing in the beautiful Greek island of Lefkada. We have teamed up with adventure sports specialists Ocean Elements to offer you the opportunity to go to one of Europe s top destinations for water sports. Not only is there the windsurfing and dingy sailing, but free use of Kayaks, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Mountain Bikes along with a whole host of other water and land based activities. The adventure sports holiday of, not to be missed! Historical Poland: Warsaw, Krakow and Auschwitz (Staff i/c Dr. Roberts) Cost 850 (est.) Max Number : 30 Years 9-12 To enhance the students appreciation of cultural and historical heritage: The Holocaust and the implications of WWII. The itinerary includes : Full accommodation ; Guided walking city sightseeing tour of Old Town of Krakow, including entrance to St Mary s Church; Schindler s List tour, including visits to the Old Jewish Quarter, ghetto area, Remuh Synagogue and Old Cemetery; Schindler s Factory guided tour; Galicja Jewish Museum guided tour; Holocaust Survivor meeting (to be confirmed); Full day study tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum (guide included) Morocco Adventure (Staff i/c Mr Picot) Cost 1,500 (est.) Max Number: 22 Years 9-10 An exhilarating and challenging 8 day summer expedition to Morocco! From Marrakech we travel up into the spectacular soaring, High Atlas Mountain peaks for our trek through Berber homelands to ascending Mt Toubkal (North Africa s highest peak). After relaxing in the lovely coastal town of Essaouira we return to the bustle of Marrakech

6 2. On-Island Activities (5 Days) Beach Soccer Maximum Number : Unlimited Years: All Cost: 129 Ever wondered why the Brazilians are so good at football? Now the International Confederation of Futebol De Salao and Brazilian Soccer Schools (BSS) are giving you the chance to find out. Brazilian Soccer Schools will run classes at College Fields and at it s Beach Soccer Pitch (opposite the Old Station Café, St Aubins Bay). The coaches are highly trained Brazilian Soccer Schools specialists that will encourage you in a fun, inclusive environment. Learn how to play the Brazilian Way! ( Creepy Valley Activity Package Maximum Number : 32 Years: All Cost day land and sea adventure activities. Activities will include the following: Archery, Orienteering, Splat-Master, Rock Climbing and Abseiling, Assault Course, Teamwork Challenges, Zip Wire, King Swing, Aerial Trekking & Powerfan, Off-Site Water Sports (provided by Absolute Adventures - Coasteering/Surfing/Kayaking/SUP/etc). Golf at Les Mielles(Staff i/c Mr Bloor) Maximum Number: 20 Years: All Cost: 120 This is targeted at boys who have played golf before and will be based at Les Mielles. This option is not suitable for beginners but for those ranging from an intermediate (28 handicap or less) to an advanced level. On Monday and Tuesday we have some practice time on the range and putting green, play 9 holes and have a lesson with a golf professional. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we play 18 holes of golf each day

7 Jersey Adventures Maximum Number : 16 per group Years: Cost: 175 (est.) Jersey Adventures is Jersey s longest established outdoor pursuits company and has a 100% safety record. It has been part of Victoria College s Activity Week programme now for over 15 years and has offered students in Year 7 and 8 a variety of well-planned and organised activities which have proven to help develop self-esteem and character. These have included rock climbing, abseiling, sea swimming, coastal traversing, orienteering, cycling, boogie boarding, bush-craft, bunker tours and land sailing. All activities are led by highly qualified professionals with the Health and Safety of both students and instructors of paramount importance. The emphasis is always on enjoyment of these pursuits but in a safe and controlled manner where students work at their own ability levels and comfort zones, yet challenging enough to enhance their development. The unique delivery of activities also raises awareness of the environment and promotes respect for the living world. Whilst the programme is set out for the week, there are always contingency plans should the weather prove to be inclement on any particular day. Students will travel to each activity by minibus, meeting at College each morning. Land and Sea Package with Wild Adventures Maximum Number : TBC Years: All Cost days of land and sea adventure activities. Activities will include the following : Sea Kayaking, Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Seashore Safari, Boogie Boarding, Caving, Raft Race, Coasteering, Bushcraft, Archery, Cycle Tour and Orienteering

8 Le Mourier Activity Packages Le Mourier currently work in partnership with the CCF Royal Navy Section and are developing three Activity Week Packages. The first two of these packages are being offered in Activities Week. At the end of the week the Le Mourier Instructors will give feedback on progression towards achieving the globally recognised RYA Powerboating Qualifications and how your son can go on to achieve this over the summer. Le Mourier Junior Package (Years 7 & 8) Maximum Number : 12 Years: 7 & 8 Cost days of land and sea adventure activities. Activities will include the following: Powerboat instruction towards RYA PB1 Level, by RYA accredited instructors. Junior Medic Certificate, and first aid instruction to that level by a First Aid instructor. Open water snorkelling. Pool-based scuba diving introduction. A Sight-seeing visit to the Ecrehous on the Le Mourier RIB. Sea kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, and beach activities. This package would also give your son a taster of what he could be doing in the CCF Royal Navy Section in the future. Le Mourier Intermediate Package (Years 9 &10) Maximum Number : 12 Years: 9 & 10 Cost days of land and sea adventure activities. Activities will include the following: Powerboat instruction towards RYA PB2 Level, by RYA accredited instructors. PADI Open water diving introduction. Introduction to VHF short range radio operation. A Sightseeing and snorkelling visit to the Ecrehous on the Le Mourier RIB. Sea kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, and beach activities. Le Mourier Advance Package (Year 12) Will hopefully be introduced from This package will look to develop and advance the skills learnt on the Junior and Intermediate packages to a higher level

9 Les Ormes Activity Package Maximum Number : 24 Years: All Cost 199 Les Ormes 5 day adventure really does cover a huge range of sports and adventures. An example of the week is below : Monday : am : Inflatable Obstacle Course; pm : Indoor zorbing / cricket Tuesday : am : Introduction to Kayaking; pm : Paddle Boarding Wednesday : Coasteering all day Thursday : am : Abseiling; pm : Tennis / Football Friday : am : chosen activity Other Activities will be used, cricket, badminton, beach football and more

10 Sailing & Powerboating with GoSail.Je Maximum number: See Below Years: See Below Cost: See Below A week of RYA certified seamanship training with local providers GoSail.Je. 1) Competent Crew Course This course is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. Experience living on board and really get to know the boat. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew - without you the sails won't go up and the boat won't be steered. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board. You should also have visited some interesting places and had an enjoyable holiday. Pre-course experience: None Minimum Age: N/A Cost: 655 Maximum Number: 5 (Total of Comp Crew and Day Skipper courses) 2) Day Skipper Course A course for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills. Learn to skipper a short passage with the instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement and ensure your safety. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well and being responsible when it doesn't. Pre-course experience: 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht Minimum Age: 16 Cost: 630 Maximum Number: 5 (Total of Comp Crew and Day Skipper courses) 3) Powerboat Level 2 Course with Sailing / Motorboat Experience Days This entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course will be taken on the coast and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly. The remaining days will be spent sailing during the morning sailing and the afternoon aboard a powerboat or we may be a full day(s) under sail. 11 Scuba Diving 1) Try-Dive and Water Activities Package Maximum number: 15 Years: All Cost: day activity package with Bouley Bay Dive Centre. Activities will include two day trydive in pool, a sea dive, snorkelling and a power boat trip. This is an ideal and costeffective taster to Scuba diving whilst also getting the chance to participate in some other water activities. 2) PADI Open Water Diving Course Maximum number: 25 Years: 9 & 10 Cost: day PADI Open Water course at Bouley Bay Dive Centre. After completion, the certification will allow you to dive independently of a dive professional, but always with a buddy, to a maximum depth of 18mts. The course consists of 5 academic sessions and 5 dives (1 confined water session in Langford pool and 4 open water dives at Bouley Bay). Whilst in the water there will be a maximum student to instructor ratio of 5 to 1. There is also a Rescue Diver in the water with each group at all times, which gives the confidence and extra security to students, knowing that all safety elements are in place. Students learn to dive at their own pace and level, ensuring that they gain their certification the activity week with competence and safety. All instructors will have many years experience in teaching diving and enjoying the best resources in Jersey waters. Sea and Beach Activity Package with Absolute Adventures Maximum Number : 32 Years: All Cost days of sea-based adventure activities. Activities will include the following : Kayaking, Coasteering, SUPing, Banana Rides, Sofa Rides, RIB Trips, Raft Building, Blokarting, RIB Coasteering, Surfing Sea Fishing (Staff i/c Mr Hickling) Maximum number: 8 Years: 8-10 Cost: 180 A range of sea fishing will be offered from various locations around the coast of Jersey. This will include pier, beach and two days of boat fishing. You will have the opportunity to learn/improve upon your fishing skills and to catch a range of fish species. In addition, we aim to increase your general beach, sea and boating knowledge. Access to your own fishing rod, reel and tackle would be helpful. Please note, the times of this activity maybe outside of school hours to fit with the tide

12 Sea Kayaking Course (BCU Approved) Maximum number: 12 Years: All Cost: day activity package with Jersey Kayak Adventures. Course activities will include cover a range of paddle skills leading to the awarding of British Canoeing (BC) paddle power certificates. All kit including wetsuits can be supplied. Venues will vary each day so students get to kayak in a range of locations around Jersey. This is also to ensure students kayak in safe locations. Surfing Maximum number: 74 Years: 8-10 Cost: days at the Jersey Surf School / Le Port Surf School 9to be confirmed once final numbers are known). The cost covers comprehensive insurance, surf tuition, beach safety and surf rescue. Surfboard and wet suit are provided. All abilities catered for. Please note pupils will need money for all food & drink. Victorian Magazine Design (Staff i/c Mr Gorman) Maximum Number: 10 Years: 8-10 & 12 Cost: Free A team of boys will work under the direction of Mr Gorman to produce the next Victorian Magazine working alongside our publisher. This is a fantastic opportunity for any boy who is looking to go into journalism or publishing

Partial/Non Availability This programme is only available to pupils who cannot attend all five days If your son is not available for the full five days of Activities Week permission must first be sought from the Headmaster. Requests for absence should be ed to the Attendance Officer who will then process the request on your behalf and respond to you. If your son is available to attend some of Activities Week then there are three options: 1. He attends one of the 5-day Activities (no discount/refund can be given for the lost days). 2. He takes part in the programme below when he is available. You will only be charged for the days he can attend. 3. He attends College when he is available for supervised self-study.
