Business arising from August Minutes B-Line & Club DA Rob Stokes: B-Line will stop at Mona Vale until they have organised their preferred solution which will involve liaising with the community and the surf club. Rob Emerson $100,000 has been granted by NSW Government for the DA process. 3. Update from the Newport Kinghorn Surf Racing Academy (by James Brooks) Rob Emerson President James presented goals and objectives for the season ahead and showed 2 presentations (Promo video and Culture & Friendship) 4. Under the recent rules for proficiencies we can delegate people other than assessors to assist in carrying out proficiencies. This needs to be approved by the committee, recorded in our Minutes and forwarded to branch. See Guyren s report. IRB crew: the policy has changed again due to insurance issues. Rob Emerson: run swim run and maybe rescues could be delegated to Patrol Captains to reduce the onus on trainers and assessors to undertake this aspect of the proficiency and reduce potential barriers to participation. We are in a fortunate position as we have numerous Trainers and Assessors. Therefore, we do not need to delegate any part of the proficiency process to Patrol Captains at this stage. Policy 5.04 Competition Eligibility Glen Borg Competition Organiser Newport Carnivals 4th & 18th November 2 carnivals 4 th Nippers in morning, Opens in the afternoon, 18 th Boat Carnival Drug of Addiction Presentation 11th Nov 2017, 11am Surf Club James Brooks mentioned Drug of Addiction program on 11 Nov. 4 Mad Mondays after Aussies due to the cancellation of the carnival debacle. SLS issued statement at 7:30 pm that all water events were over.

Guyren mentioned Branch are running mental health program. Action Items: To be promoted Person(s) Responsible: Gemma and coaches (for everyone not just Academy athletes) Policy 5.04 Competition Eligibility 2-page policy, 5-page guidelines Open competitors can reduce some of their hours by undertaking approved activities. Of the 25 hrs that you need to do as a competitor, now ten of them can be other service. Within the guidelines SLSA have suggested some tasks re contributing in significant club activity eg admin and training. Action Items: Everyone to Glen suggestions (over the next 2 weeks), Glen will summarise and submit to the Executive. Let s keep it simple to understand and record. For example, some senior athletes could spend time with Nippers instead of sitting under patrol tent. Next Meeting recommendation will be presented. Eg Nipper age manager The Executive will consider, decide and report back on what has been approved. A process will be put in place to make sure that a patrol isn t left short of members. SNB RWC service in the 2017/18 season Request from Branch to house a jetski at Newport under the same arrangements as last season? Rob Emerson President Much discussion took place regarding the pros and cons of storing the Branch jetski. Decision needs to be considered and resolved by Management Committee. Rob s read out his response to Steve McInnes (copy is attached as this provides a good summary of most of the cons). Brendan Doyle: We have stored the ski for 5 plus years. As soon as racks have been installed, we will have room. We will have 8 Jetski operators (probably the largest number on the northern end of the Northern Beaches. (Brendan s report is also attached as it summarises most of the pros mentioned during the discussion). Kieran provided history of how we became the club to store the jet ski: 2009 started at Mona Vale forced to heavier models, had to move from Mona Vale so Newport was ideal, we are in the centre, 15 to 20 call outs in 12 months.

4 Topic Person Responsible Role Our members performed 2 x 4 hr patrols last year, we house 2 jet skis in one of the smallest clubs on the Northern Beaches. Rob Barkley: we need to inform Branch that we are not the solution need to apply pressure we need an undertaking that they will do something about finding an alternative. Jess Menzies: water safety no charge other clubs must pay. Brendan Doyle: Suggested we are not utilising existing space as well as we could. Guyren: it s not about doing it for Branch, we are doing it for the public. Regarding a central ski, there is an option of 3 or 4 clubs. Guyren admits he has a vested interest in it being stored at Newport. ALS jetski is underutilised. We are being recognised as a centre of excellence in sport and it would be good to be recognised as the same in surf life saving. Conclusion and Action Item: Branch to be informed that we will house the jetski for this season only. Next year we will not store it so Branch has 12 months to find an alternative solution. Venue options for 2018 Presentation Evening Madi Smithies Social Secretary Madi provided a comparison in her report of numerous venues. We had 220 last year. New function space will be at Mona Vale (where the pub is now). However, we will not know prices and details until October. Madi recommended we stick with Dee Why RSL. Rob Emerson: history 100 in club house, we went to Pittwater RSL and numbers grew and then plateaued, Miramare: a massive jump in numbers probably would have plateaued if we kept going back. 320 at Manly Pacific back to Dee Why for last 3 years. If we stick with the same location numbers are likely to continue decrease further. We can t continue to do the same thing and expect to expect a different result Shangri-La: $115 per head including drinks plus busses, entertainment, AV about $150 per head. Jack: Has started to investigate the Marquee option.

Approx $14 K will be needed for a new IRB (please see PowerCraft Captain s report) in due course (testing yet to commence) Brendan Doyle PowerCraft Operator Crystal Pools: looking to give 2-year sponsorship $7,500 each year (IRB) so it looks like we have a solution to this issue. If it s bought before January we can claim $5000 on a grant. 12. General Business Glen Borg: Michael King has suggested an open day for the club where members can get information on club activities. Please see image below that shows what Mona Vale is intending to do next week. Perhaps we could do something similar in conjunction with the 2017 Surf Club Open Day to be held on 15 October: Jess and Guyren are running open day on 15 October this is also the first day of nippers, first day of SRC training.

6 We have cards from state that will facilitate obtaining names and details of interested people. Glen Borg and Jan Proudfoot to sound out coaches and athletes to see if they would be interested in providing info regarding club competition on the Open Day. 3 Newport reps will compete in the DHL Surf Rescue challenge in NZ. Brendan Doyle: we will have a new ATV this season (sharing with ALS). Rob Barkley: finance report (see attached copy). We spent more than we earnt but still healthy. $115,0000 (over 9 accounts). $1000 left on loan so it will be paid soon. Anticipated income and expenditure: $10,000 grant from NSW: $5000 to be paid October then January. $39,000 for essential services, $20,000 accounted for. Bioglan have renewed sponsorship. John Greenhill: 291 members registered so far. Meeting closed 9:21pm

7 5 September 2017 Mr Rob Emerson President Newport SLSC Via Dear Rob Sydney Northern Beaches RWC Service Thank you for allowing us to operate our RWC service from Newport SLSC throughout the 2016/17 season. This valuable service was involved in 65 rescues throughout the season many in difficult and/or confronting circumstances. We appreciate Newport SLSC s involvement in and support for this vital service. We are writing to seek your ongoing support of the RWC service in the 2017/18 season by housing a jetski at Newport under the same arrangements as last season. Can you please confirm that you are agreeable to this ongoing arrangement? Kind regards Steve McInnes CEO

8 Correspondence re Jetski From: Rob Emerson Sent: Wednesday, 6 September :07 AM To: Steve McInnes Cc: Brendan Doyle Subject: RE: Letter re RWC Service Hello Steve, My personal view is that we don t have the space to store this equipment. The branch would be aware that we have probably the worst member/space ratio with our clubhouse across all the other SNB surf clubs, hence we store equipment in shipping containers in the car park, the majority of our surf boats and double ski s live on trailers at the Bayview and Newport carpark, we have had to acquire an industrial property in Warriewood to house our gym facility as we can t fit it in the Club etc etc and our storage is at such a critical point that it is only a matter of time before it is identified as a substantial WHS issue. Throw in the potential impacts of the B-Line potentially eating into the car park significantly, I am not sure how we are going to manage our current temporary storage of trailers and containers arrangements against increased demand for car parking. Additionally, you may or may not be aware that we also store the lifeguards jetski in the Club building that is used Monday -Friday during their season. Is there any opportunity for the branch to negotiate the sharing of the lifeguards jetski rather than store a second jetski s at the Club? However, I will take your request to our Management Committee that meets next Wednesday to provide the Club s position. As you know we have a number of valued members that support the storage of the branch jetski at Newport so we will again debate the issue as the Management Committee and provide you with an answer by the 18 th September. 9 Newport Surf Life Saving Club Report submitted by Power Craft Capt Date of Meeting: Sept Items, News or Issues to report since last meeting 11 more crewies passing their exams Special thanks to all trainers for their time Next drivers course starts 15 th oct and is already full Basin camp will involve 2 IRB and 2 Jetskis for the Sat afternoon Items to be discussed and/or approved at the next meeting It has been suggested by Montgomery Inflatable Boats (our current repairer) that it would be time to upgrade our Arancia IRB as it is showing signs of deterioration and would still fetch a reasonable price as is. It is approx 9 years old New models are in the $14k range as we discussed earlier last year I am looking for the go ahead to start doing some testing with the 3 suppliers to SLSA There will be a waiting list for orders Items for General Business Storage of the Jetski. We have received a letter from Steve Mcinnes requesting our ongoing support regards Jetski storage Rob has replied to Steve stating that his opinion is we don't have the room and listing his reasons why Currently 8 Jetski operators at Newport with at least 3 more down for the next course and being based at their home beach is a reason why we are increasing our training numbers 2 of Newport s members are at the coal face in operations and training at Branch and State level and also manage this Jetski and its roster Newport is still the most central beach for the operators that use this Jetski We have access to the Jetski for training (water safety for downwind ski and board sessions if needed) We also have Jetski access for carnivals held at Newport, our basin camp, Newport swim and from time to time Jetski operators will get our patrols involved in mock rescues for training purposes

10 The jetski is the quickest and safest method to respond to rescues in all surf conditions performing 47 recues last year The Jetski is an integral tool used in saving lives. Newport SLSC is about making the beach a safer place using the best tools available to save lives We supply storage space at no cost to branch but in return no costs incurred for the extra use that Newport can have I believe Newport should again house the Jetski as it will play a major role in keeping our 0 deaths record in patrol hours intact We don't have a lot of room but if we were a bit smarter in the way we use what we have, I believe the Jetski to be a bonus for Newport
