President s Overview Another year has flown by; a year that has marked our continued growth as a club. I invite all members to join in celebrating the club s successes and achievements and reflect on another stellar year at DVE Aquatic. Four key themes are important to me as we continue to grow as a club. These are Participation, Challenge, Celebration and Community. Participation: DVE is a wonderful mix of all things aquatic. There are opportunities for members to participate across all disciplines diving, waterpolo, swimming and lifesaving. In fact, well over half of us are involved in more than one aspect of the club. There are now so many options whether you are a competitive swimmer, swim multiclass or are just starting out; whether you are playing State League waterpolo, competing in national events or just beginning with Flippa Ball; or maybe diving is your go; or perhaps it s in a support role as a coach, team manager, or official. Or perhaps like me you are happy to volunteer, to time-keep, to score, to help with events or in so many other ways. Challenge: The programs we offer give you - our members - the opportunity to participate in teams or as individuals; give you the ability to be competitive, if that is what you want, or provide opportunities for you to just join in and have fun. At all times though, our programs are designed to push you to do the best you can. Celebration: We can be very proud of some terrific achievements in this last year for the first time we have a medallist, actually a multi medallist, at the recent National Aged Championships, we have swimmers in the Swimming Victoria Talent Identification and Performance squads, we have waterpolo players chosen to join the Victorian Institute of Sport training squads, in interstate and national competitions and just recently we had two of our waterpolo teams in grand finals in the WaterPolo Victoria winter competition with our under 16 boys successful as Premiers. Go DVE! 6

Of course, we are just as proud when someone breaks a PB, shoots their first goal or manages a complex dive for the first time. Success has been amazing both in team pursuits such as in waterpolo, winter interclub swimming and Metro North Relay Aggregates, and in the more individual pursuits of diving and competitive swimming. Our club is continuing to grow particularly with the increasing popularity of waterpolo. We are again this year the fastest growing waterpolo club in the Victorian competition and the number of our active players is fast approaching the number of our swimmers. There is no doubt that our desire to grow creates its own challenges. Our growth overall is such that we have hit saturation point in the number of lanes we can hire which impacts on our capacity to expand further. Hopefully this can be addressed when the Eltham pool comes back on line sometime next year. On a more positive note, we are one of the few clubs to offer a wide range of qualifying meets and encouragement meets. They are regularly booked out and help cement our place in the swimming community. Given our continued growth, another key challenge in the coming year is to ensure we have in place the administrative practices and club procedures to assist in supporting our growing membership base. A cornerstone is our firm commitment to a Child Safe Safe Sport framework. After months of consideration, the DVE Aquatic committee was pleased to agree in June to the charter that will set out this commitment. The new DVE Child Safe policy and our new DVE Code of Conduct have been widely distributed to members, coaches, officials, volunteers, supporters and of course to our divers, swimmers and waterpolo players. One event each year best typifies our ties to Community. And over the past 12 months, by virtue of a quirk in dates, we got to do it twice: our swimathon! It is inspiring to see so many of our club members participate and put themselves out for a good cause as we fund raise for the club and, more importantly, fundraise for the work of Berry Street. And what an amazing achievement by club co-captain, Tara Draper, in setting a new lap record of 50 kilometres. We 7

are all excited that next year is the 50 th anniversary of our swimathon. The planning has already begun. At the end of an extensive period of negotiation it is pleasing to have strengthened our relationship with the City of Banyule and Watermarc and as a result have been able to introduce new and tangible benefits to our club members. An important initiative is that our pool users no longer have to make a separate payment to enter the Watermarc complex for training a significant saving to each DVE family and one that recognises our club as the Watermarc home club. Finally, I wish to pass on my indebtedness to the work of the committee and the participation by parents and club supporters in all aspects of the club. I know you are all aware that it takes a huge effort to run this club: from the day to day decisions, to the strategic planning, the promotion through our new web site and bulletins, the finance and administration Thanks to all contributors, to our enthusiastic coaches, officials, team managers, scorers, timekeepers, referees and the myriad of roles that need doing to continue to make DVE Aquatic a club to be proud of. And many thanks to all of our sponsors particularly our four major sponsors: Jalna, Watermarc, Bendigo Bank and the City of Banyule. A full list is attached to this report. Lastly, thank you to all members for your support over the last 12 months and I am looking forward to an even bigger and better season. John Giannios President, DVE Aquatic 8

Swimming Report Another year has gone by and as always the squad swimmers of DVE Aquatic have shone through with some excellent results for individuals, teams and the club as a whole. It has been a privilege to once again to represent the club in this role and to play a small part in its successes. I would like to thank Head Coach Brian Miller and his team of coaches for their ongoing dedication, positivity and support for the program and its athletes. This year Dominic Bakalis said goodbye and was replaced by Jessica Adams who, together with Adele Bothma has coached the junior and Development squads. Brian was supported by Joel Miller and Matt Moulder to coach the State and MC swimmers and those aspiring to achieve National times. As always the management of the squad program and associated club competitions and swimming related activities, is reliant upon the help of many. Thank you to Deb Kinder, Angela D Azzena, Jacqui Draper, Nicola Hoyle, Brian Miller and John Giannios for their contribution to the swimming sub committee. More recently, Michelle Piaia joined the team as the Cub Aggregate coordinator and Paul Piaia will be assisting her into the new season. I would also like to thank our club captains Tara Draper and Natalie Smith for their contribution through the season and their involvement in the development of the Junior Swimming committee which has contributed some fresh ideas on how to improve the club. We ran four qualifying meets through the year which were a huge success and get bigger and better with each experience. DVE has an excellent reputation for running professional and high quality events and this would not be possible without the contribution of time and energy from many. Special thankyou to our Competitions Coordinator Deb Kinder and to all the parents and volunteers who have assisted in so many ways. Your support is invaluable. Thanks also to our club Officials who give of themselves so freely and willingly to support the club- Bob Oldfield, Ken Houghton, Pat Southwell, Roland Van Oorschot, Martin Hone and Lindsay Ellis. Revenue from these meets goes directly to the running of the club and assists us to keep your fees as low as possible. We also ran the Primary School Encouragement Meet, Club Champs and the Annual Swimathon which raised over $4000 for Berry Street. Many of our swimmers participated at various levels of competition throughout the year. These included encouragement, school, district, state and national competition. Individuals realised personal goals, achieved pb s and experienced the highs and lows of racing. Tara Kinder became our first National Age group medallist and went on to be selected for the Swimming Victoria Development program. Sofia Piaia was selected for the SV Junior Development program and Jessica Adams was elected for the SV Talent ID Squad. Alyssa D Azzena, Tara Draper and Julian Marriott have also been selected to represent Victoria in the School Sport Swimming Championships in December. We had teams participate in relays at State Championships and Winter Interclub which are always fun events and help build our swimmers confidence and overall enjoyment of the 10

sport in a team setting. Metro North Aggregates once again saw us enter teams in two Grades and come away as runners up in both. Over the past year we have had the usual number of swimmers leave to pursue other interests but have still managed to grow the squad program to 102 at the time of writing. Most new members have come into the junior and development squads. The growth of junior squads is seen as essential for the future stability of the club however at present our ability to grow is limited by available lane space and financial realities. We continue to do our best to juggle the provision of a quality program with limited resources while maintaining fees at an affordable level for participants. Over the next year we will be working to strengthen our relationship with Watermarc swim school in order to formalise an easier transition from swim school to our squad program. It is hoped with the reopening of ELC in March 2018 we will be able to access more lane space and facilitate further growth. The committee recognises the importance of dryland as a complimentary training to pool sessions and vital to the development of strong and confident swimmers. To this end we are looking at the viability of employing a professional instructor to take the sessions and hope to be in a position to make an announcement shortly. In the past 6 months DVE has adopted the Child Safe Standards which now apply to all sporting organisations that operate and provide sporting services to children within Victoria. A new Safe Sport Policy and Code of Conduct has been developed for our club and is applicable to all athletes, parents, coaches, spectators, officials and administrators. This has been recently distributed and needs to be embraced by all. Thank-you again for your support and participation throughout the year and I look forward to the season. Katrina Adams VP Swimming 11

Diving Report We had 12 members participating in diving this year with 11 finishing the year The Aggregate Competition was held during every second week s training session and the divers look forward to the bi weekly competition where they take the opportunity to attempt their new dives. A total of twelve competed in the Aggregate Competition and seven qualified for the Age Club Championships held in May with two being proficient enough to compete in the Open Category. This year, after a long absence, two divers Celinka Chochowska and Elsie Clifford have competed with great distinction in the Diving Victoria Pennant Competition. During the year Ken achieved the Level 1 Diving Coach Accreditation and Greg, yet to complete the mentoring hours required, will receive this Accreditation shortly. We continue to have available to us the great diving facilities at Carey Grammar and also the support of the management of Carey Grammar Sporting who continue to provide DVE Aquatic with any diving enquiries. Our thanks to all divers who trained and completed with great enthusiasm the year and to the parents and friends who attended each week and provided their assistance with the scoring of the competitions. Special thanks to our Competition Co-ordinator Ann Lands for her work with the Aggregate Competition, Club Championships and liaising with the new members and their families. Looking forward to another great year of diving in Aggregate Competition Club Championships. Club Championships. Novice 9 and Under Girls. 13 Waterpolo Report MEMBERSHIP: VICTORIAN SUMMER SEASON 2016/17 SENIOR TEAMS Men SL7 Preliminary Final SL7 MVP & Highest Goal Scorer Women SL3 Preliminary Final Men SL4 Premiers 16/u Boys Premiers David Donoli SUB JUNIORS 13

12/u Sub Juniors is an unofficial competition but our team was undefeated until the last game.the unofficial Grand Final. A great result for our team who have won Bronze in our first year, Gold in our 2 nd and Unofficial Silver in our 3rd 14/u Girls DVE / Essendon Runners up Stephanie Jacobson, Haley Waters, Billie Gifford and Cameron Ladd played in this combined team, as we didn t have enough players. Pleased to say our girls are scoring most of the goals and are showing how you do it with great swimming ability and fantastic DVE coaching. The girls made it into the Grand Final but lost to MC. 14/u Boys A Grade Semi Final 4th With some new faces and in our 2 nd year of fielding a 14/u team we have found ourselves in A grade. There were 10 teams in total with 4 in B grade and 6 in A grade. We only had 2 losses in A grade and finished 3 rd on the ladder. Monash beat us for the Bronze medal Victorian High Performance Camp December 2016 An initiative by WPV we had some 20 players participate out of 100 registered. Another great result that proves kids in the suburbs want to play Water Polo. March 2017 The 2 nd HPC held in March was a much tougher selection criteria. We had 7 selected: Stephanie Jacobson, Tess Haslam, Billie Gifford, Omar Vela, Callyn Fenwick-Kearns, Koby Gilchrist and Christian Schofield. Out of that group, 5 DVE PLAYERS were SELECTED TO TRAIN WITH THE VICTORIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT Stephanie Jacobson Tess Hasslam Christian Schofield Omar Vela Wheen Callyn Fenwick - Kearns 14

14/u National Club Championships DVE Team: Luke Cannalonga GK, Christian Schofield, Omar Vela, Koby Gilchrist, Callyn Fenwick Kearns, Lachlan Batchelor, Eli Worsam, Henry Worsam, Harry Klein For the first time DVE sent a stand-alone team to the above competition in Albury. The team won many friends from around Australia as our style of play, sportsmanship and being a new club on the scene stood out. There were 31 teams entered and we finished officially 24 th. We finished Unofficially 17 th but due to a dispute which is ongoing with WPA we were relegated to 24. The Melbourne Collegians team finished 15 th but they recognized that we were a far superior team. There coach who is from Montenegro and an Olympian was convinced we were good enough to be around 11 th or 12 th. Playing 10 games in 5 days is a great way to improve. The boys did just that and had a great time and experience. Thank you to Alberto Vela for being team manager and to John and Anna Schofield for their shopping and cooking. Stephanie Jacobson played as a draft player for Melbourne Collegian girls on the Gold Coast. Stephanie was an instrumental player for MC and help them to finish 11 th. 14/u Victorian Team East Coast Challenge DVE have 7 players who will compete for Victoria in Sydney in July in the East Coast Challenge at the Sydney youth Water Polo Festival Boys: Christian Schofield Omar Vela Koby Gilchrist Callyn Fenwick Kearns Luke Cannalonga GK Girls: Stephanie Jacobson Tess Haslam Andrew Gilchrist is the coach of the Boys Team Alberto Vela is the team manager for the Boys Team 15

VICTORIAN WINTER SEASON 2017 This season saw a record number of DVE teams with 6 competing. Women s SL3 Runners Up 16/u Boys B Grade Premiers 16/u Girls 5 th Men SL7 5 th Men SL6 5 th Men SL4 4 th AWARD WINNERS THROUGH OUT THE SEASON Summer 2016/17 Women s SL3 Men s SL7 Men s SL4 Boys 16/u Girls 14/u Boys 14/u Stephanie Jacobson Hamilton Mack Nicholas Carroll Jacob Niceforo Stephanie Jacobson Christian Schofield State Awards Highest Goal Scorer 16/u Boys B Grade Jacob Niceforo MVP Men s SL7 David Donoli Winter /u Girls Tess Haslam Women s SL3 Tess Haslam 16/u Boys B Grade Omar Vela Men s SL7 No Award Men s SL4 Sebastian Top Future & Growth Our junior end is showing some good growth but the real success this year bucking the trend in sport is the growth in numbers of our 14 to 17 year old girls who want to play. At an age when most girls are walking away from sport this is a great result. It shows that polo is a real option for all kids and teenagers at any stage. Challenges to growth and development include pool space, coaching and finance. We are creating strategic alliances with other clubs so that our young athletes have a pathway if we are unable to provide. This is common in Water Polo in Victoria and is great that clubs can do this to help young athletes aspire to achieve their goals. Andrew Gilchrist VP Waterpolo 16

Registrar s Report Overall registrations for the year were slightly down on the prior season although it was pleasing to see the number of competitive swimmers increase. This was helped by the introduction of the Junior Dolphin and 8 Year Dolphin memberships which had reduced subscription fees. It is also possible that the Water Polo figures are understated. A number of registered members were involved in more than one activity but they have been only included once in the summary below. Hence we had swimmers who also competed in Water Polo and Diving, and Life Members who participated as Officials, Swimmers, Recreational Swimmers, and Water Polo Players. 76 new members joined the club whilst 88 did not renew their membership from the previous season. 30 Financial Summary for DVE to 30 June 2017 The Finance Co-ordinator s role is to ensure that the clubs transactions are accurately reflected, and in this end I have been ably assisted by Pat Southwell, Kim Campbell and more recently Sharon Jones and Kasey Lawrence. Please find attached the financial statements for DVE Aquatic Club (ABN ) for the financial year ended 30 June Overall the club has recorded a loss of $780 for the year ended 30 June The loss could well have been a profit of $14,232, as there was an issue with the Watermarc invoices which had to be reconciled and paid. Most of these invoices related to the prior financial year. In addition a decision was made to write off the equipment purchased in the previous year. This was due to the equipment being purchased through grants and fundraising, it is shown as an expense and going forward will be expensed when purchased. I have also included a report showing how the various disciples performed. The financial result of the swimming program is an overall loss of $40,358. The cost of running the swimming squad program continues to be more than the fees we are charging squad swimmers. Squad fees increased on 1 July 2016, which definitely helped minimise the loss on running this program. Overall squad revenue has increased from the prior year. The profits generated from the numerous swim meets held during the year ($40,423) has offset the loss on the squad program. Waterpolo recorded a deficit of $1,503 which will be offset by previous year surpluses. The diving division has traded at a surplus of $868. There have been no significant financial transactions for lifesaving. We were fortunate to have increased the amount of financial sponsorship we received this year, which contributed to overall revenue. Fundraising activities have contributed to the revenue of the club, both the 2016 and the 2017 swimathons were held in the 2017 financial year, which after sizable donations to Berry Street, raised $4,938 and $6950 respectively. The Mango and Chocolate drives also made significant contributions. The club has a positive cash position, at 30 June cash balances totalled $87,876. Although cashflow became tight at various times during the year, it has ended with a strong result. Leanne Giannios Finance Co-ordinator *Please refer to separate financial pages provided. 30
