President s s Overview As president of DVE Aquatic Club for 2017/2018, I have been thrilled to see the comradery of members, family and friends supporting each other in their sporting pursuits whether it be Swimming, Diving or Waterpolo. Also, vitally important is the spirit with which the club members work together to run a swim meet, organise teams for waterpolo tournaments and work together to make DVE Aquatic Inc, the premier club in the northern suburbs. Some of our highlights are: 1. Free entry for training sessions at Watermarc 2. Masters swimming run by Iain Hebden 3. Junior Committee 4. Water polo getting bigger and better by the season 5. Swimmers winning more medals than ever at state and national meets To all new members in the 2017/2018 season, I would like to welcome you and your family to the DVE family. As far as on field success or in our case success in the pool..i could not be more proud to see DVE swimmers on the blocks at the National Age Championships in Sydney in April, at the Pan Pac s trials in Adelaide, the numerous DVE athletes on the dais at School Sports Victoria, and of course the many waterpolo players that have been competing in New Zealand over the past few weeks. Water polo has grown to 100 athletes registered for the 2017/2018 season and had some amazing results. At the conclusion of the season, DVE is the 5 th largest club in Victoria. Teams across all division have made finals, including multiple premierships. We have many athletes selected in State teams to represent Victoria in the Youth Pan Pacs in New Zealand. I thank Pat Southwell, Andrew Gilchrist, and the waterpolo subcommittee for their efforts in contributing to Waterpolo s success. We have had a wonderful year in swimming too, with swimmers representing the club at National and State level, we have a member joining the Pan Pac s team to 6

represent Australia, and selections for elite squads with swimming Victoria. I thank Brian Miller, and his coaches, and managed by Katrina Adams, and the swimming subcommittee. At the recent Swimming Victoria awards, Tara Draper and Ken Houghton were recognised for their individual contributions, and DVE Aquatic Inc was announced as the 8 th best club, so well inside Swimming Victoria s top 10. This is an awesome result. I would also like to thank Paul and Michelle Piaia, who have revamped the club aggregate night, I know the swimmers are enjoying the new format, and I know Paul and Michelle have more ideas for the 2018/2019 season. I would like to thank Ken Houghton, Greg McGregor and coaches for the efforts with the diving program. It was great to see DVE well represented in the School State Championships. I feel like our Technical officials need their own discipline, I don t know of another local club that can run a qualifying swim meet with their own member officials. I know the DVE kids must have a competitive advantage on the somewhat intimidating pool deck at MSAC, to see Ken, Pat, Bob, Lindsay, or Martin s familiar face. I thank you for your contributions over the past 12 months, especially to Ken Houghton who has been recognised as the Swimming Victoria Official of the Year for 2017/2018 season, Congratulations Ken. DVE Families..this club has an amazing culture, and I want to thank every single person for their efforts, in timekeeping, scoring, judging, officiating, organising aggregates, coaching, managing teams, cooking a BBQ, driving a bus, organising social events, providing food, participating in junior committee, committee and sub committee meetings, organising and participating in our swimathon, representing DVE at Swimming Victoria meetings, and for representing our club generally. I would like to thank the committee members that work tirelessly to make this all happen, firstly the executive, Pat Southwell, Katrina Adams, Bryn Jones, Ken Houghton, Heather Zipsin and Dean Basile, thanks for all your efforts. To the general committee, I thank you for your efforts too. I encourage all members to join the committee, not only to help run the club, but to get to know other members, the committee meetings are an enjoyable get together, and it s a great opportunity to have your say. To our sponsors, and they have grown over the past 2 years. Thanks for your contribution, your financial contribution certainly helps, but it s great for our 7

members to know they are supported in the community. We hope our connections continue and are mutually beneficial. I would like to share one of my highlights for the last year, on a very pleasant Sunday morning DVE members descended on the 1,000 steps in the Dandenong s, the event was well attended, was organised by the junior committee, of course us Dads could not let an opportunity to cook a BBQ go by, we were even invited to join in a Tai Chi group practicing at the top of the mountain. I think most people who came along were both inspired by the fitness of the younger members, enjoyed the comradery away from the pool deck, and were very sore for about a week after!!! Thank you, Matt Campbell, for persevering and mentoring the junior committee, who knows one of them may be nominating for president in a few years time. As I conclude my time as president of DVE Aquatic Club Inc, I thank you for the opportunity to lead such a successfully run organisation, with incredible sporting success. Thanks, John Giannios DVE President 8

Swimming Report The 2017/2018 Swimming season has seen many highs for the DVE squad program with both individuals and teams achieving some terrific results. At the end of the season we were ranked 8th Victorian club which is our best ever overall result. Despite our overall numbers falling in comparison to last year, the club continues to punch above its weight. The quality of the program and the work of those that administer the club, has allowed us to shine and match it in the pool against the larger Victorian clubs. This year the swimming subcommittee consisted of the following members to whom I owe thanks for their support and hard work Deb Kinder, Anne- Maree Somers, Angela D Azzena, Leah Williams, Michelle Piaia, Brian Miller and John Giannios. During the year DVE swimmers participated in all levels of swimming activity. For those beginning their swimming journey there were the encouragement meets where the focus is on fun and participation. Many of our athletes progressed through the school swimming levels and medaled at SSV State competition. Through SV qualifying meets we had multiple State medalists, finalists at National Age and Open competitions, and many individuals that improved their overall State and National rankings. We have representatives in the Swimming Victoria Talent Identification and Performance squads, and Brian continues to assist SV in the delivery of these programs. Tara Kinder was selected for the Junior Pan Pacs team to swim in Fiji later this year on the back of another sensational Age Nationals competition. Maddi Fox was also selected to represent Australia in the World Down Syndrome Championships in Canada, also on the back of some huge swimming improvement. We had three teams enjoy the fun relay competition of Winter Interclub and at Metro North, we won the A Grade Aggregate. We had ten swimmers feature with placings at both the Metro North Age and Open Championships. Overall DVE swimmers broke 22 District records. On top of that, four individuals broke multiple Victorian records in the pool- congratulations Jessica Adams, Alex Basile, Tara Kinder and Semra Olowoniyi. In March we were able to reintroduce the Dryland Program for our two top squads. While it took a lot of work to establish, we now have a regular undercover venue and a commitment to provide this essential component of training to our athletes. This year we made a few changes to Club Aggregate and these have been well received. As always, these events are a fun opportunity for members to practice their skills and see improvements from their hard training. They also provide a rare opportunity for members to come together socially eg at our recent pizza night. 10

Last month DVE became affiliated with Masters Swimming which is an exciting step for the club. Iain Hebden has been instrumental in moving this forward and I thank him for his passion and foresight. This year we farewelled Joel Miller from the coaching team who left to pursue a new career with Vic Police. I would like to acknowledge and thank him for his many years of service and for the contribution he made to the success of so many swimmers. We welcomed Jessye Blakis and Isobel Sproule who, with Matt Moulder and Adele Bothma, continue to support Brian in the delivery of our squad program. Every year we run multiple qualifying events and these have gained a well -deserved reputation for being well organised and they appear as a regular feature on the calendar of many clubs. These events remain essential to generate revenue so we can meet the financial costs of running the club and also keep squad fees at the lowest possible level. My thanks to all the volunteers who assisted us during the year at both internal and external meets and upon whom we are reliant for their success. The success of these and other club events, would not be possible without the support of SV Officials who always so willingly give up their time to help us: Linda Anthonson, Craig Chapman, Lindsay Ellis, Cara Frampton, Martin Hone, Ken Houghton, Brian Marshall, Bob Oldfield, Pat Southwell and Roland Van Oorschot. Finally, my thanks to the kids who took part in the squad program through the year. Your willingness to train hard, compete with passion and enthusiasm, and push yourselves to be the best you can be, is not only commendable but inspiring. It is not an easy sport to be involved in at times, but you have made your club and families proud. I hope you have a wonderful season. Katrina Adams VP Swimming 11

Diving Annual Report We had 14 members participating in diving this year with 10 finishing the year The Aggregate Competition was held during every second week s training session and the divers look forward to the bi weekly competition where they take the opportunity to attempt their new dives. A total of twelve competed in the Aggregate Competition and nine qualified for the Age Club Championships held in May. During the year Greg achieved Level 1 Diving Coach Accreditation. We continue to have available to us the great diving facilities at Carey Grammar and also the support of the management of Carey Grammar Sporting who continue to provide DVE Aquatic with any diving enquiries. Our thanks to all divers who trained and completed with great enthusiasm the year and to the parents and friends who attended each week and provided their assistance with the scoring of the competitions. Special thanks to our Competition Co-ordinator Ann Lands for her work with the Aggregate Competition, Club Championships and liaising with the new members and their families. 14 Waterpolo Report MEMBERSHIP VICTORIAN SUMMER SEASON 2017/18 SENIOR TEAMS Men SL7 Women SL3 5th Premiers 16/u Girls 4th Men SL4 Runners up 16/u Boys A Grade 4th SUB JUNIORS For the first time we entered multiple teams. We had 2 x 12/u mixed teams and an A grade 14/u boys team and B grade 14/u boys team 12/u Sub Juniors is an unofficial competition but our Blue team made it through to the unofficial Grand Final. Unfortunately after an undefeated season we lost that one to be runners up. Our Green team showed a lot of promise with a mix of wins and losses but a great experience for so many of our new players We had 4 girls play for Footscray in the 14/u as we didn t have enough girls to make up a DVE team. The girls we a major factor in getting the Footscray team to the Grand Final but unfortunately lost to Richmond 14/u B grade had a terrific first up season with many of the 12/u boys playing up in this grade. Our A grade boys brought home our first 14/u Gold medal DVE Aquatic 4 Defeated Richmond Tigers 3 14

GEELONG TRI-STATE COMPETITION February 17 & 18 We entered 14/u boys and 16/u girls into the above competition. We made the GF in both and both against Melbourne Collegians. Both games were very similar. The DVE never give in saw both teams come from 3 goals down at half time to level each game in the 4 th Q s. Unfortunately MC found late goals in both games being their only goals for the 2 nd half. WE WON THE SILVER MEDAL IN BOTH GF S!!!!! A great weekend all around with parents getting to meet each other and find a very LOUD common voice. The competition was well run and organized. We had 2 boys play 16/u for Footscray who managed the silver medal as well and one of our new youngest players Zack, play 12/u for Footscray. VICTORIAN ACCADEMY OF EXCELLENCE Following on from last years High Performance Camps, WPV created the Academy of Excellence. Players had to attend trials to be selected. We have 8 players who have been accepted into the Academy: Tess Haslam Billie Gifford Stephanie Jacobson Macy McGrath Pacy Dunstan GK Luke Cannalonga GK Christian Schofiled Koby Gilchrist These players have been able to train and learn with and from the best players and coaches in Victoria and will also have access to National Coaches who come to Victoria from time to time. CANBERRA 14/U BOYS NATIONAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS For the 2 nd year in a row we sent a DVE team to the above competition, which was held over Easter at the AIS in Canberra. With a very young, inexperienced and physically immature team,.some of these 14/u boys around Australia are as big as me, the boys did DVE proud. We finished 19 out of 31 clubs from around Australia. The competition is split into 4 divisions so effectively we came 3 rd in our division and only a goal or 2 away from winning our division. 15

Playing 8 games in 5 days means the boy s improvement is quite noticeable. The boys listened well and learned and applied it to their game. Koby Gilchrist took on the role of unofficial captain and looked after and encouraged all the boys. Kobys ability and experience saw him become the highest goal scorer of the competition scoring 59 goals from 8 games. An amazing feat he achieved because all the boys did a job and did it well. Thank you to Alberto Vela Team Manager doing a great job as usual and to Jamie Rotin and assistant Antoinette Masciti for cooking and to Anna Schofield with Sharyn Jacobson arranged accommodation and mini bus PAN PACIFIC C WATER POLO TOURNAMENT AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND Victoria Water Polo finally got around to run trials to select players to compete at Pan Pac s. Trials were held for boys and girls 14/u, 16/u, 18/u and 20/u. With not a lot of lead-time the initial selection of players saw 12 DVE players selected to represent Victoria. Unfortunately the withdrawal of teams for various reasons only 10 DVE players competed. Victorian 16/u Boys won the Plate final and was represented by no less than 6 DVE Boys: Pacey Dunstan Goal Keeper Luke Cannalonga Goal Keeper Christian Scofield Callyn Fenwick Kearns Damian Pezzi Koby Gilchrist 16/u Girls were represented by: Stephanie Jacobson Tess Haslam 14/u Girls saw Billie Gifford hitting shots from anywhere outside 5m! VICTORIAN WINTER SEASON 2018 This season saw a record number of DVE teams with 6 competing. Women s SL3 Premiers GF DVE 7 def Latrobe Uni Red 5 16/u Girls Runners up to Richmond 16/u Boys A Grade 3 rd 16/u B Grade 5 th Men SL7 5 th Men SL4 Premiers GF DVE 9 def Latrobe Uni 3 16

There were many highlights for the Winter season but without doubt our 16/u girls were a stand out. This team began 12 months ago getting some heavy losses and not winning a game to this year going through the season undefeated. Sometimes that is to your disadvantage going into the Grand Final. A great season by a terrific group of young girls MILESTONES We have just registered our 100 th member for the 2017/18-year, which is a milestone we have been looking for. With enquiries coming in on a regular basis, the challenge now is to be able to cater for everyone both in terms of available teams and suitable training. Billie Gifford s effort at the recent 14/u National Club championships playing 2 nd claim for Essendon, saw Billie become the 2 nd highest goals scorer at the competition scoring against the best 14/u teams in Australia totaling in excess of 250 girls. Christian Schofield and Koby Gilchrist were selected in the Boys Born 2003 National squad The boys attended a training camp at the AIS in Canberra June 27 to July 1. This is the first time DVE players have been selected for National squads. The boys were put through their paces and got some great training and feedback from the team of coaches. A squad has been picked to tour Europe and although our boys missed selection, my understanding is that they were not far away PRESENTATION DINNER March 25 was our 3 rd Annual Presentation Dinner and for the 2 nd year was held at the Greensborough RSL. It was a terrific night recognizing all the efforts of the players, parents though out the year that has made DVE Aquatic Water Polo the success it is. Thank you to all of those people who organized and contributed to the night. Our raffle raised in excess of $500 with some fantastic prizes donated. If you haven t seen it check out our DVE T.N.T video on FB. You might see yourself in the footage. Great Job and thanks to Tara Draper for putting that together FUTURE Our junior end is showing some good growth but the real challenge is to keep introducing young people to water polo in greater numbers. This is after all the future of any junior club Challenges to growth and development include pool space, coaching and finance. 17

We are creating strategic alliances with other clubs so that our young athletes have a pathway if we are unable to provide. This is common in Water Polo in Victoria and it is great that clubs can do this to help young athletes aspire to achieve their goals. Andrew Gilchrist Waterpolo Coach 18

50 th Swimathon In 2018 the Swimathon was swum for the 50 th time, with 76 swimmers completing 29,315 laps and raising $9,352. Liam Niceforo raised the most as a junior, Iain Hebden raised the most overall and twelve swimmers completed 25Km or more. This was a celebration of the lasting and ongoing partnership between DVE Aquatic and Berry St. and bringing the total contribution to this worthwhile cause to over $70,000. A fantastic achievement to all involved. 19

Registrar s Report Overall registrations for the year showed an increase over the previous season with total membership increasing by 36. The number of competitive swimmers increased by 10 and this was helped by the transfer of a number of swimmers from the Mill Park club. There was a significant increase in the number of water polo players where registrations increased by 22. Diving membership stayed constant with last season. The breakdown of membership is shown on a separate page and in a different format to last season. The total registrations for each of our main activities Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo are shown. There is then a netting factor to take account of members who have registered in more than one activity. For example 28 competitive swimmers also registered as Water polo players. The table also shows the breakdown of membership by age and gender with the total number of male and female members almost equal. 81 new members joined the club whilst 78 did not renew their membership from the previous season. 36 Financial Summary to 30 June 2018 The Finance Co-ordinator s role is to ensure that the clubs transactions are accurately reflected, and in this end I have been ably assisted by Pat Southwell, Leanne Giannios, Sharon Jones and Kasey Lawrence. The final financial statements for DVE Aquatic Club (ABN ) for the financial year ended 30 June 2018 are attached (subject to financial audit). Overall the club has recorded a loss of $2, for the year ended 30 June I have also included a report showing how the various disciples performed. The financial result of the swimming program is an overall loss of $35, The cost of running the swimming squad program continues to be more than the fees we are charging squad swimmers. Squad fees have not increased since 1 July 2016, which has contributed to the loss in running this program. Overall squad revenue has increase from the prior year ($9,125). The profits generated from the numerous swim meets held during the year ($47,062) has helped offset the loss on the squad program. Waterpolo recorded a surplus of $2,763. The diving division has traded at a surplus of $219. There has been no significant financial transactions for lifesaving. Financial sponsorships and grants we received this year, although generous were significantly less than last year (-$10,782). Fundraising activities have contributed to the revenue of the club, which after a sizable donation to Berry Street, raised $18,593. The club has a positive cash position, at 30 June cash balances totalled $79,044. Although cash flow became has been tight at various times during the year, the club continues to be in a strong financial position.
