I would like to congratulate our students for their resiliency in what has been a testing time since the fire. The demolition will take place in the holidays and we are hoping that rebuilding will begin soon after. I would like to thank the Industrial Arts staff who has worked tirelessly to ensure our senior students in particular are able to progress with their project work. This has meant that they are giving up a number of days in the holidays to use the available space here at school and Macintyre. Congratulations once again to Hannah Worsley. Hannah competed in the regional final for Lions Youth of the Year held in Port Macquarie last weekend. Hannah won this event and now moves on to state level. This is an outstanding achievement. Hannah is also 1 of 10 students who has been selected to go to London in July as part of the Rotary International Youth Science Forum. Hannah has been selected from schools across Australia. This is a fantastic opportunity for Hannah to see world class Science Research facilities and universities and meet with other likeminded students. Well done also to our swimmers who competed at state last week. There are further details in the swimming report. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered for our P&C. their way to Sydney to compete at CHS Swimming Championships. Day 1 of the championships saw Jack Butler compete in the 100m Butterfly where he improved his time by 3 sec to place 24 th.

Thursday evening saw the finals of the 200m Individual medley for Jack and Hamish. Both boys swam PB s with Jack placing 8 th and Hamish 17 th in the 15/16 years, 7 th in the 15 years.

The girls team of Georgia Lyell, Imogen McDonald, Mikeely Kent and Bella Youman swam first and improved on their time by 10 secs from North West.

Gianna Migheli was our next swimmer in the 100m Breaststroke and she swam a big 6 sec PB to improve her ranking by 7 places.

This is a handicap relay where each team starts at a different time based on their times achieved in the previous relay events. Our boys started on 52 sec.

2 Newsletter Distribution As of term 2 this year the School Newsletter will only be available on the school web site or from the Skoolbag App. Paper copies of the newsletter will only be sent home with students when the form attached to this newsletter is returned to the school CHS Swimming Inverell High had a squad of ten swimmers who made their way to Sydney to compete at CHS Swimming Championships. Day 1 of the championships saw Jack Butler compete in the 100m Butterfly where he improved his time by 3 sec to place 24 th. Next event was the 100m Freestyle for Jack and Hamish Migheli. Both boys swam at their PB time to finish 24 th and 18 th respectively. Thursday evening saw the finals of the 200m Individual medley for Jack and Hamish. Both boys swam PB s with Jack placing 8 th and Hamish 17 th in the 15/16 years, 7 th in the 15 years. Friday was an early start for our swimmers and a busy day with everyone swimming today. First up was the 50m Free for Jack, Hamish and Ben Flood. All swam great times. After this were our relays. The girls team of Georgia Lyell, Imogen McDonald, Mikeely Kent and Bella Youman swam first and improved on their time by 10 secs from North West. The boys team of Ben Flood, Mackenzie Bailey, Joe Butler and Hamish Migheli swam 7 sec faster than at North West. Gianna Migheli was our next swimmer in the 100m Breaststroke and she swam a big 6 sec PB to improve her ranking by 7 places. Hamish in his 100m Breaststroke qualified for the final in the afternoon session. The last event for the morning session was the invitational relay. This is a handicap relay where each team starts at a different time based on their times achieved in the previous relay events. Our boys started on 52 sec. This meant the team in lane 0 had a considerable head start. Ben led the team off with a solid performance and then Mackenzie likewise followed. Joe swam a new PB to then have Hamish anchor them home. The boys swam amazingly well to come home and win the event by 0.06 sec. They are now the State Champions for the Invitational relay 4x 50m. In the afternoon session Hamish had to then back up for his Breaststroke final, where he swam a great time to place 8 th in the state. Saturday saw Jack and Hamish return to the pool for the 200m Free and 100m Backstroke. In the Freestyle both boys swam PB s to place 13 th for Jack and 12 th for Hamish. In the backstroke event, Hamish swam well and Jack swam a PB to qualify for the final that afternoon where he placed 8 th. All of the swimmers displayed outstanding sportsmanship and were credits to themselves and the school. Our Values Respect, Integrity, Tolerance & Excellence Page 2

Chess Report On March 16th we travelled to Tamworth for an interschool chess challenge held at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, it was hosted by Sydney Academy of Chess.

Benjamin came 1st, Warwick came 2nd, Taine came 3rd and Axel came 5th.

This competition was organised by the NSW Junior Chess League. Girls Soccer The last few weeks of term have been a buzz of excitement for our enthusiastic Soccer Girls.

A team of girls attended the Soccer trials here at Inverell High in week 8 where Madison Roussos and Claudia Mallory made it into the possibles and probables. Well done ladies.

A number of the girls played for the first time and are commended for getting in and having a go.

While Tessa Stewart was given the legend title of the match when she stepped up to goalie and saved Inverell High from a total flogging.

The Bill Turner 15 s team were disappointed by a forfeit of their game by Glen Innes High in week 9, but are building up their fitness and skills for a their next game against

3 Chess Report On March 16th we travelled to Tamworth for an interschool chess challenge held at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, it was hosted by Sydney Academy of Chess. Taine came 5th among 66 players from different schools and received an individual trophy. Inverell High came 3rd out of 11 schools. Then on March 18th we went to Ross Hill Public. Benjamin came 1st, Warwick came 2nd, Taine came 3rd and Axel came 5th. Four players travelled to Glen Innes High School for half a day competition on March 24th and we were very successful in winning all games. This competition was organised by the NSW Junior Chess League. Girls Soccer The last few weeks of term have been a buzz of excitement for our enthusiastic Soccer Girls. On Thursday 19 th of March the Open Girls team played a wholehearted and tireless game against rivals Macintyre High School. A number of the girls played for the first time and are commended for getting in and having a go. Gemima McLachlan and Georgia Pianko are thanked for volunteering to take on the goalie role. Thanks to Clontarf for bussing the team over and Mr Cameron for returning (with a small detour) a bunch of hot and exuberant players back to school. Good luck ladies. Opens Girls Open Boys Cricket Late news in, congratulation to our the Open Boys Cricket Team who have come 4 th in the state. They travelled to Bathurst to play in the finals series this week.. Their first game was against Picnic Point High in the final for the comprehensive schools on Tuesday. This was a challenging match, with a late start on a wet wicket. Inverell High was defeated in the match. They then went onto play Hunter Sports High Schools for 3 rd & 4 th place. This was narrow win to Hunter Sports High. More details of these matches will be in the first newsletter of next term. Again our boys are to be commended on their sportsmanship and behaviour.
