If your child is swimming in the lane in which you are timekeeping, please swap with a timekeeper in another lane. The Volunteer Register will be set up for the recording of 3 timekeeper volunteers per lane, so please make sure you sign the Volunteer Register to record your volunteer participation for the night. If the 3 timekeeper positions on each lane are filled, please see the Chief Timekeeper who may elect to have reserve timekeepers. Volunteering is part of the criteria for swimmers eligibility to compete in Club Championships. Please refer to the Summer Club Book. *3 timekeepers per lane will be required for ALL Club Championships events. Thank you in advance for your support. PLAYING OF GAMES IN MARSHALLING/ POOL VICINITY BANNED ALL GAMES INVOLVING BALLS, FRISBEES, TOYS or anything that may roll, fly, slide, bounce etc NEAR OR INTO the pool ARE BANNED to prevent any disruption to the club night program. If a ball should accidently go into the pool during an event, it may cause the Referee to declare a no race. This could prove disappointing to the competitors in the event who may be seeking qualifying times, Club Records or PBs, as well as earning points in a Championship event. Please be considerate of the swimmers competing in the pool.

4 4 Qualifiers for the final of each of the Perpetual Trophy events to be held on 30th March 2015 are published on the right based on the criteria set out in the 2014/2015 Summer Booklet : Swum at least 3 qualifying freestyle swims for their age group by 23rd February 2015 Fastest 3 boys and 3 girls in each age category will be nominated for the final Nominated finalists must confirm their intention to swim to Race Secretary Cherie Gregory by 23rd March Finalists who have not confirmed their intention to swim will forfeit their swim to a reserve swimmer. 5 5 Perpetual Trophy Events have been a tradition at Ripples St Marys Swimming Club for many years and are held on the last club night of the Summer Season. All Perpetual Trophy Events are Handicap Events. In these events, all swimmers start at different times, depending on their best time recorded for the season. They are particularly exciting to watch, as the swimmer with the slowest entry time starts first and the swimmer with the fastest entry time starts last and has to chase the swimmers in front of them to touch the finish wall first without breaking their handicap e.g. if the entry time for a swimmer in a 50m event is seconds, they will be declared the winner if they finish the race first and their finish time is slower than seconds(36.04 less 2 secs break time). Break times below (as per the 2014/2015 Summer Book) : For 25m and 50m events a break time of 2 seconds applies For 100m events a break time of 4 seconds applies. The Referee can disqualify a swimmer for breaking their handicap. Handicap Racing information In Handicap swimming, the swimmers are "equalized" by commencing their start at different time intervals based on entry times submitted for a determined style and distance. It would be anticipated that if each swimmer swam to his submitted time (or swam to his "handicap") all swimmers in that race would arrive at the finishing line at the same time. In practice, the SLOWEST swimmer (also called the Limit Swimmer), based on his submitted time (or handicap), starts FIRST at the command "GO". The other swimmers leave the starting platform when their STARTING NUMBER is called, until the last swimmer (also called the Scratch Swimmer), who has the FASTEST submitted time (or handicap), has his starting number called and he commences the race. The actual STARTING NUMBER for each swimmer is calculated as the difference between the slowest (limit) swimmer's handicap (or submitted time) and the handicap times (or submitted times) of each of the other swimmers in that particular heat. For clarification let us consider the following example for a 50 metre event: Lane No Name Handicap (Submitted Time) Starting Number 1 A. Green 0: (Limit Swimmer) "Go" (Slowest Time) STARTS ON THE GO SIGNAL 2 B. Blue 0: STARTS ON THE 1 COUNT 3 C. Charley 0: COUNT 8 H. Jones 0:30.00 (Scratch Swimmer) 10 (Fastest Time) - STARTS ON THE 10 COUNT During Perpetual Events, parents and spectators must NOT pace or coach swimmers during the event. Examples include pacing alongside the pool and/or calling out instructions to swimmers in the water during the event. Any behaviour which advantages/disadvantages swimmers may be deemed to be pacemaking which is a disqualifiable swim rule infraction.

The Swimming Metro South West Awards Dinner is on 16th May th March 2015 Times achieved on the above date are LONG COURSE official times and can be used as qualifying / entry times for meets. Official results are on the club website. Please keep the Clubhouse tidy especially on Monday afternoons. On Monday Clubnights, many people will be using this space, so please be considerate of this. On nights of unfavourable weather, the Clubhouse may also be used as the Marshalling Area. Thank you in advance. Swimmers who will be receiving an award will be receiving an invitation this week. Please contact the Club Secretary David Fitzpatrick before Monday 27th April 2015 if you will be attending and how many guests. More information will be included in your invitation. Over the top Starts may be implemented at the Referee s discretion on club nights to speed up proceedings on any events of distances of 50m or over. After completing a Freestyle, Butterfly or Breaststroke event, the competitor stays in the water against the wall until after the start of the next race. For Backstroke, competitors will position themselves on the lane rope two meters from the wall. When the following competitor dives over the top of the previous swimmer, he may leave the water.

CHILD SUPERVISION CLUB NIGHTS / CARNIVALS Swimmers under the age of sixteen years must have adequate supervision (by a person aged sixteen years or older) in attendance for the duration of club nights or carnivals. Any swimmers being identified in attendance at either a carnival or on club night without adequate supervision, will not be allowed to compete until his or her parent carer arrives to assume the supervisory responsibility for that swimmer.
