Authorised persons are the officials and competitors who are required to be in that area to either compete or officiate. Parents, spectators and coaches are not authorised persons and are not permitted in any of the designated competition areas.

3 3 As Volunteers, we work with a swimming Club or at a meet for a Club, Area, State or Nationals. Our work is related to children. NSW Department of Education and Communities, has introduced, via NSW Commission for Children and Young People, a Working with Children Check (WWCC), as a prerequisite for anyone in child related work, effective as of 15 June Metro South West has advised that Swimming NSW requires that all Clubs and Officials comply with this Legislation by 1st January To comply with this directive, ALL CLUB VOLUNTEERS (i.e. committee members, technical officials and parent volunteers will be required to gain a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and provide their details to the Club Secretary David Fitzpatrick by 1 January There is NO COST involved for a WWCC for VOLUNTEERS. How to apply : 1. Complete the online application form at Click on the blue START HERE box to begin the application. 2. When you have lodged your online application, you will receive an APPLICATION NUMBER. 3. Attend a NSW Motor Registry or Government Access Centre with the following information to complete your application (NO FEE FOR VOLUNTEERS) WWCC Application Number Proof of Identity e.g. NSW Driver s Licence or same proof required when applying for a NSW Driver s Licence. 4. You will receive notification (via or post) when your application has been approved (valid for five years). 5. Provide your Working With Children Clearance details to the Club Secretary David Fitzpatrick. Please notify Race Secretary Cherie Gregory by 4.15pm AT THE LATEST (earlier if possible) on the if you will not be contesting a club night event that you have placed entries in. This will allow Cherie to amalgamate heats and combine events which will allow the night to run more efficiently. We thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. We will be running 7 lanes i.e. 14 timekeepers, + runners, bbq helpers, refreshment crew etc. Tonight and every club night is dependent of the assistance of each family. Just a reminder that running is NOT PERMITTED around the pool as it can lead to injury to either yourself, others or both. Please WALK and KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. On Clubnights, many people will be using this space, so please be considerate of this. Until further notice, eating and drinking are no longer permitted in the Clubhouse due to food and drink rubbish being been left behind instead of being put in a bin. Thank you to the committee members who have cleaned up the mess during the past weeks. On nights of unfavourable weather, the Clubhouse may also be used as the Marshalling Area. Thank you in advance. 6 6 Summer is just around the corner, so now is the perfect time to remind everyone to stay safe in the sun whilst having fun at outdoor swimming events. Many Swimming NSW activities take place outside in the peak of summer, often with little or no available shade over pools and marshalling areas. This can potentially leave participants, officials, coaches and spectators exposed to harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation for extended periods of time, increasing their risk of skin cancer. Many people also don t realise that UV radiation can be reflected from surfaces such as cement, sand and water. At outdoor swimming events there is the potential for water and cement to reflect UV radiation back onto participants, officials, coaches and spectators even if they are in shaded areas. Therefore, it is important to wear hats, sunscreen, clothing and sunglasses at all times whilst outdoors to minimise the risk of overexposure. There are a few simple steps event organisers can take to ensure that everyone can swim safely this summer: Implement Swimming NSW s Sun Protection Guidelines, approved by Cancer Council NSW Check the UV Alert on the Cancer Council website remember when the UV is 3 or above sun protection should be used. Provide free sunscreen at events for participants, spectators, coaches and officials. Make regular audio announcements at events about the use of sun protection. Encourage participants to always wear hats, clothing, sunscreen and sunglasses whilst they are waiting in marshaling areas for their events. Encourage all spectators, participants, coaches and officials to remain in the shade away from reflective surfaces as much as possible, and use a combination of sun protection measures to minimise the effect of reflected UV radiation. So as the old saying goes, slip, slop, slap, seek, slide to stay safe this summer. Things to remember: * New Technical Officials are always in demand. * Technical Officials provide the swimming community with a precious gift - TIME. * Without Technical Officials there will be no swim meets and the swimmers have no competition. * Every time you work at a swim meet you help young Australians achieve their goals and stay healthy. Some ideas : Christmas decorations, stockings, bon bons, serviettes, lollies, nuts, chips, pretzels, biscuits, shortbread, drinks, juice, cordials, Christmas cake, pudding, coffee, tea, tinned goods e.g. ham, pineapple, peaches, corn, beetroot, pickles, pickled onions, gherkins, olives, simmer sauces, pasta & sauce etc, etc, etc. Non hamper donations would be most welcome as well e.g. toys, stationery, bath products etc We will also gratefully accept goods from businesses and will acknowledge their donation in our newsletter and on our website. Projected expenses for the Summer Season that the Christmas Guessing Competition may help fund include Club Christmas Party, swim entries for Metro South West, Metropolitan, State and National Championships, National assistance funding, Summer Presentation expenses including venue, trophies, certificates, entertainment and Summer Season gifts as well as club nights and newsletters. * Please drop your donations into the labelled basket in the Clubhouse. Thank you for your continued support. Over the top Starts may be implemented at the Referee s discretion on club nights to speed up proceedings on any events of distances of 50m or over. After completing a, Butterfly or Breaststroke event, the competitor stays in the water against the wall until after the start of the next race. For Backstroke, competitors will position themselves on the lane rope two meters from the wall. When the following competitor dives over the top of the previous swimmer, he may leave the water. CHILD SUPERVISION CLUB NIGHTS / CARNIVALS Swimmers under the age of sixteen years must have adequate supervision (by a person aged sixteen years or older) in attendance for the duration of club nights or carnivals. Any swimmers being identified in attendance at either a carnival or on club night without adequate supervision, will not be allowed to compete until his or her parent carer arrives to assume the supervisory responsibility for that swimmer. All times are unofficial until processed and checked by the Race Secretary and posted on the club website. 10th November 2014 Times achieved on the above date are LONG COURSE official times and can be used as qualifying / entry times for meets.
