1 May 2018 WINDSOR SWIM CLUB Monthly Newsletter In this issue: Special Olympics Meet Dates Squad Timetable Club Calendar Club Dates Presentation Night Information Special Olympics Sandy was very excited to compete at the Special Olympics. She really enjoyed heading back to Adelaide and catching up with her friends from W.A & QLD. The 1500m open water swim was her favourite event. She was very surprised when she finished first. Sandy would like to thank Steve for his training to help get her the gold medal. Sandy is hoping to be picked for Abu Dhabi World Games and knows that she is going to have to train even more to get there. She would like to specialise in the 1500m. Sandy started swimming when she was 12 years old and just loves being in the water. Her advise is to train hard and listen to the coach. This was Madison s first time competing at Nationals. She was very excited to get the news that she had been picked. Madison s favourite event is the 200IM in which she won Silver. She has been training across all strokes & couldn t believe her eyes that she finished second with a 25 second PB. Madison started swimming at 17 years old when she was asked to attend a swim meet to cheer friends on. She enjoyed the team environment so much that she decided to start swimming herself. Madison s 200IM & 100m Breast (won bronze) were back to back races. Madison wants to be an all round swimmer and plans on working on her turns for long distance swimming. She would like to thank Kerry Wagner & her family for getting her started in swimming and helping her find the passion for something that she loves. Madison would also like to thank the coaches for all of their hard work. Everyone at WSC is extremely proud of both Sandy & Madison for such achievement. They are both a huge inspiration to every swimmer within the club. 2 Presentation Night Venue Change - The Venue for our Presentation Night has unfortunately been changed due to the Wolves club advising us that there will be a home game on that night. It will now be held the Windsor Bowling Club (opposite the Council Chambers). We will provide Cheese & Biscuits, all drinks can be purchased from the bar. With so many great places to eat in Windsor I m sure a group dinner will follow. Next Committee Meeting Dates Monday 7th May & Monday 4th June Presidents Report How quick this past month has gone. I hope all families enjoyed some rest over our break and all swimmers are ready to come back and enjoy our winter season. Over the last month we ve had Sandy Freeman and Maddison Cooper win Gold at the 2018 Special Olympics! Well done ladies. You ve done yourselves, your family and your club proud. This last week Sydney hosted the 2018 Georgina Hope Swimming Championships. Young Kane McNamara represented our club in the 100m Fly. Well done mate, you worked very hard all season, even when things looked bleak after tearing ligaments in your ankle, you pushed on, you earned that spot on the blocks and we couldn t be prouder. Well done Pat on your first successful summer season. I m looking forward to the winter season ahead. It was a great success and the money was raised to cover Patrick s costs in Tasmania.

3 Nationals 2018 Georgina Hope Australian Age Championships A huge congratulations to Kane for his awesome swim in the 100m Fly!! He is now ranked 28th in Australia. Kane handled the pressure and nerves extremely well and should be very proud of himself. Thank you to his cheer squad who attended to show him their support. WSC is very proud of your achievements. Uniform Orders Don t forget that our uniforms are now available to order online!! You can click on the Uniforms button on our website windsor.swimming.org.au to be directed to the online store. The first batch of uniforms will be delivered towards the end of May. Catfish will then have all sizes in stock to be shipped within a dew days of placing your order. Swimming Metro North West 2018 Winter Championships will be held from the 9/6/2018 to the 10/6/2018. Entries are now open!! Entries close on the 30/5/2018

4 Friday Club Night 4th May 11th May 18th May 25th May Start time 6:45pm Volunteers are needed every week to help the night run. We need everyone to help in order to start & finish on time. PB of the month for Aliza Wagner at the Blacktown City Short Course Meet on 29/4, Aliza swam an outstanding 100 back, taking a huge 31 seconds off her entry time! Meika swam an impressive 200IM and gained a qualifying time to swim that event at State in September.
