6 Splash and Dash Carnival GMAS Swimming Club will be hosting a Splash and Dash Carnival on Sunday 25 th February 2018 in the outdoor pool of the Geographe Leisure Centre. Warm-up will be at 9.30 and races commence at 10am The very popular Splash & Dash carnivals are designed to attract new members to the sport and increase participation regardless of ability and is open to participants aged 7-11 years from any local primary school or community-based swimming squad! The Carnival is also open to Swimming WA members, but only in events where they have not achieved an AA Qualifying Time in a particular stroke/distance. Please make a note of the date on your new 2018 Calendar/Diary and please spread the word and invite any friends who may be interested in coming along. New Competition Policy for Technical/Performance Race Suits In the interests of athlete development and retention, Swimming WA in consultation with Swimming Australia, the SWA High Performance and Competition and Planning Committees, will institute a new Policy pertaining to the use of technical/performance race suits at Swimming WA sanctioned competition. Technical/Performance suits can be a financial burden creating a potential barrier. After consultation with coaches across the State, feedback indicates that much of the benefit of wearing a technical/performance suit is not relevant to young swimmers who have yet to physically develop. The move to limit the use of technical/performance suits for young swimmers is another initiative from Swimming WA to remove the competitive pressure on young swimmers at a crucial development phase of their swimming journey. 7 Swimming for Gold This article recently appeared in the Country Connect newsletter from Ability Centre: Maddi, 13 from Busselton, recently started swimming with the Georgiana Molloy Swimming Club after her brother, Riley insisted that she gives it a go. She initially commenced training once a week and has now built up to training 3 times a week. She has since competed in several swim meets with and without multiclass classification and won 3 gold medals at her most recent meet on Sunday 19th November. Maddi has also competed in her first open water swim and came 5th in her group. She met her now idol Joshua Hoffa, who is advocating for more multiclass events in the south west region. Her commitment to training has garnered her an award from the GMAS swim club for her dedication. Well done Maddi! A Master Plan for the Geographe Leisure Centre (GLC) has been developed by an independent consultant. The master plan recommends a series of options for the future development and resourcing of the centre for possible implementation over the next 20 years. These options are prioritized on the basis of meeting community needs; ensuring financial sustainability; and providing the greatest return on investment. The GLC Key Findings document contains priorities identified by the consultant in consultation with usergroups. Once endorsed, these priorities will provide a planning framework for Council noting that they may change over time due to financial, operational and stakeholder needs. Feedback on the recommendations contained within the Key Findings document is sought from interested parties. This feedback will inform Council in its decision making processes. Hard copies of the Key Finding Document are available at the City of Busselton Administration Building, Geographe Leisure Centre, Naturaliste Community Centre and Busselton Library or online at yoursay.busselton.wa.gov.au Submissions close on 6 February Volunteers We will be looking for volunteers to assist in set up and pack away at the Jetty Swim as a Club Fundraiser
