1 NEWSLETTER Winter 2016 No.3 30th June, 2016 QR Code Club Meetings are generally held on the 1 st Wednesday of the month at 6pm in the club room- All Welcome! Next meeting: 6th July, 2016 In this issue: Welcome Coaches Corner Club Captains Sponsor Update Swimmers out of the pool Presidents Chat Our Publicity Officers Marcea and Amanda Welcome! What an eventful month since our last newsletter- with our Short Course Carnival and then SMW Short Course Championships last weekend- there has been no rest for our swimmers, our parents or our committee members. On top of that it has also been absolutely freezing cold! Thank you to everyone who helped out for our carnival- it is always such a huge success because we are all there to pitch in. Thank you also to everyone who helped out at the MSW Champs- it can be very difficult sometimes filling all the positions needed and very hard for the people who have to double up on duties when we don t have enough volunteers. This is why it was suggested to trial a new roster system for future meets where basically everyone pitches in to time-keep for an hour or so. Please let us know your thoughts by next Wednesday- come along to our meeting in the club room or simply us. We had a great two days at MSW Short Course Championships- many pbs, records, medals and metro and state times. Congratulations to all our swimmers and coaches on all their hard work. Campbelltown Amateur Swimming Club Inc. PO Box 509, Campbelltown NSW 2560 CASC Newsletter 1
2 Coaches corner A Big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at the Campbelltown carnival. Just a quick reminder that all Jnr Gold swimmers and gold squad swimmers have to attend all their allocated training sessions. If you going to miss a session contact your coach. If Jnr Gold are missing Friday arvo or Saturday morning then please inform myself not Jess. It was great to see some fast swimming, lots of pb's medal and records at the Met South West Short Course Championships on the weekend. Thanks to Darryl, Aaron and Jess who turned up to coach the kids. Can all Gold and Jnr Gold swimmers get their Metro entries checked by myself asap. Entries are due by the 5th July. I know it's winter and cold at the moment but all Gold and Jnr Gold swimmers are still required to turn up to their required sessions. If you are away please let your coach know, Jnr Gold have to let myself know if you're missing Friday night or Saturday morning. If you're not training you're not improving and the only improvement made in a race are made in training. If anyone is looking for something to do on Wednesday the 6th July Bankstown Police are running a fundraising event for Police Legacy and other members of the Police family who have fallen on hard times. The family fun day is at Neptune Park, Edinburgh Drive, Revesby Heights from 11.30am to 4pm. There will be a jumping castle, face painting, cake store and BBQ. Bye Now Justin Club Captains Report We would like to wish all of the swimmers who are competing at the NSW Metropolitan Championships next month the very best of luck. Enjoy the experience of racing and having fun with your friends. Hopefully Campbelltown can come out on top with lots of medals and points. However as always, achieving personal best times are the most important thing when it comes to racing. It is important to strive for personal improvement rather than comparing your times with others. Have fun and enjoy the experience Also, we hope to see many of you at the upcoming skins night. It will be a great opportunity to race and have a bit of fun with the dress-ups! With more swimmers competing at club funded meets and more swimmers at National level we need to find sponsors now more than ever to help us along the way. Committee Members Paul Bootsma President Fiona Evans Vice President Dennise Evans Treasurer Judith Ferderer Secretary Roberta Seton Registrar Justin McEvoy Club Coach Thank you to all our current sponsors and a big welcome to Cartridge World Campbelltown who came on board last month. Cartridge World Campbelltown is a family owned business owned by Charlie and Cheree. They have had the business for a year now and they stock all types of printers, toners and stationery. So please support the businesses that support our club and pop in and see them next time you need any of these items- they will look after you. 4 NB: We are always looking for photo s stories for our newsletter. We are interested in all our club members lives both in and out of the pool. Please send anything you would like included to: cascpublicity@gmail.com Swimmers out of the pool! It is always great to see what our swimmers do outside of swimming- thank you Emilia for sharing this photo of Phoenix with his piano Performance Award at Macarthur Performing Art Clubs last Sunday. Phoenix did his first public piano performance with pride & joy. We are very proud of his play & hard work in practising. Phoenix really enjoys his club night & has done a couple of PBs in freestyle, breaststroke & butterfly 50m. Thank you to Catherine Cooke and Rhiannon for sending in this yummy recipe :) It seems like everyone enjoyed my Rice Bubble and date slice so much last Sunday that I have to give you all the recipe so here it is 250 grams butter 250 grams chopped dried dates 1 cup sugar 4 cups Rice Bubbles Place butter, dates and sugar in large saucepan and cook stirring often over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the dates have started to break down. The mixture will go a caramel colour and be sticky like a soft toffee be careful as it gets very hot and can burn you very easily. Remove from the heat and add the Rice Bubbles stirring well. Pour into a tray which has lots of coconut in it then sprinkle with lots more and press down firmly. Let cool then cut into small pieces. Enjoy! Catherine Cooke and Rhiannon. Don t forget to mention our club whenever you make a purchase at Amart Sports! CASC Newsletter 4
5 Presidents Chat Campbelltown Open Short Course Carnival A big thank you to all who helped out at our Carnival on the Sunday of the long week end. Running Carnivals does require a lot of helpers and once again thank you to all who stepped up. Special thanks to Rebecca, Jenny and Sokka who manned the computer all day and overcame a little glitch with no fuss. Thanks to Ty, Stuart, Gary, Pat, Dennise, Judith, Jessica and Sarah who were referees, starters, marshallers and check starters. Mrs Morelli and Carly who presented medals, and all our timekeepers - it is a long afternoon with the sun on your back, and those who sold programs, raffles and served morning and afternoon tea, and worked on the BBQ all day, and also those who helped setup and pack-up. All up well over 40 helpers. What was nice is that we only needed two timekeepers from other clubs. Well done Campbelltown! Sydney Metro Championships All the best to those swimming at Metro South Championships over the weekend, it is another big weekend. Thanks in advance to those who will help with our rostering duties Volunteer Grant The club has been successful in applying for a Small Volunteer Grant worth $4200 to us. The money is to be spent on specific items such as a computer (fortunate as one of the clubs laptops just packed it in), extra shade shelters, chairs, tables, training and petrol allowance money. This is a real bonus as these are things we would normally need to pay for out of our fundraising Newsletter and Social Media Well done to Marcea and Amanda for their work on the newsletter and social media for the club The new format is the newsletter club is great we had used the previous format for a good 15 years. And they, with Darryl do a great job with facebook posts. We are getting a lot of likes! Also thanks to Paul Willes who looks after the website. We are fortunate to have so many people donating their time each week to club activities. CASC Newsletter 5
6 MSW Short Course Great to see competitors of all ages and abilities competing. Well done! CASC Newsletter 6
