2 Zone Championships Report Claudia Smith Championships Officer On the weekend of the 9 th and 10 th December, 2017, 217 of our U7-U17 athletes took part in the Zone Athletics Carnival held at Barton Park, North Parramatta. It was a fantastic weekend filled with fun and great competition. One of the highlights was the U17 lap of honour. It is amazing to think that some of those athletes started Little Athletics in the Tots. Another highlight, was the new multiclass races. Multiclass athletes have their own pathway to qualify for State, so these races were just a way for our multiclass athletes to participate in Zone. Hopefully, the Zone will continue to include our multiclass athletes. Thank you to all the parents who helped out at our assigned duties. We had a lot of duties to fill and many of our parents did extra duties and filled in at short notice. Some parents were very generous with their time and kept their sense of humour. It was the Under 7 s first chance to compete at Zone and competition ends for them there, so medals were given to placegetters. Ryde athletes won 11 medals. Two gold medals were won. One by Jacqueline Pawsey in the 500m pack start and the other by Annalise Boland in the discus. Five silver medals were won. Liam Martin won 3 of them for the 100m Sprint, the 500m Pack Start and the Long Jump. The other 2 were won by Jacqueline Pawsey in the 200m Sprint and Tom Heaton in the Shot Put. Four bronze medals were won by Chelsey Santos in the 50m Sprint, Jacqueline Pawsey in the 100m Sprint, Callum Laurie in the 50m Sprint and Liam Martin in the 200m Sprint. All other age groups compete for a place at Regionals and 145 Ryde athletes qualified. Regionals will take place on the weekend of the th February 2018 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. We will need to provide parent helpers at the carnival so if you have a child heading to Regionals, please keep an eye out for the duty roster and sign up for a duty. Good luck to all our athletes at regionals as they compete to qualify for State. I m sure that you will do our club proud. 13 First Aid and Physio Every second Saturday Tara is in the physio and first aid tent for assessment, treatment and advice. Look for the North Ryde Physio flag and come and say hi! Tara is a former Ryde Little Athlete and was very excited to return to Dunbar Park where she had so many fond memories of her Saturday mornings! She may even have a few records still standing North Ryde Physio has a particular interest in athletes but welcome everyone to our practice.
