1 2014 VACSWIM APPLICATION PACK KICK-START YOUR CAREER BY PARTICIPATING IN ONE OF SA'S LARGEST COMMUNITY EVENTS! The annual VACSWIM program is a South Australian Government funded program managed by the YMCA of South Australia. Each year it engages up to 18,000 school aged children at more than 145 sites across the state. VACSWIM s aim is to reduce the incidence of drowning amongst the younger generations. In 2014, the SA Water VACSWIM program will officially commence on Monday 6 th January 2014 and continue through until Tuesday 14 th January 2014, excluding weekends (some locations will run outside of this period so you are encouraged to check our website for regular updates). If you re seeking employment and will be at least 15 years of age at the beginning of the program, please complete ALL SECTIONS of pages 2-7 and return to the VACSWIM office as soon as possible (our contact details are listed on the Instructor Checklist at the end of the document). THE FIRST ROUND OF APPLICATIONS WILL CLOSE ON MONDAY 30 TH SEPTEMBER The VACSWIM office will start appointing eligible instructors on the 1 st October 2013 and will continue this process until all positions/sites have been filled. Whilst our recruitment team will do their best to place successful applicants at their preferred site, there is no guarantee that you ll receive any of your preferences. (CPR must Surf Rescue Certificate- minimum **All ICs/ instructors/assistant instructors must do an annual competency update Annual Aquatics Competency Update is relevant to the site you will be working (pool/beach), and if you have not done any further education in the past 6 months the following are acceptable: Basic Water Rescue/update - YMCA training RLSSA Vacswim qualification update SLSSA annual Update (surf) Other aquatic training completed this year e.g. pool life guard training or surf bronze medallion, if valid until 30 th January 2014 will cover. Assistant Instructor need to ensure their qualification will be valid until 30 th January If you did your bronze medallion or higher at Vacswim 2013 it will remain recognised until the completion of Vacswim 2014, however you are required to update these qualification annually and we recommend you do an update before commencing the program. SLSSA surf rescue awards need to be updated prior to the program. All surf awards expire in December annually. Instructors and Assistant instructors are required to hold a child safe environment certificate or must attend a session on child safe awareness. YMCA will conduct a 1 ¼ hour session that will cover the Child Safe Environments awareness and Train the instructor session. 5 SECTION G: GENERAL HEALTH The Occupational Health Safety & Welfare Act 1986, Section 21, emphasises that the onus is on you to declare any restrictions that you may have in relation to your health, to take reasonable care to protect your own health and safety, and to be careful not to aggravate any existing medical conditions. Furthermore, the onus is on you to inform the VACSWIM office, in writing, of any restrictions you have in relation to your health. The onus is also on you to advise if medical changes occur which may affect your employment situation or the terms of your employment. A.
