1 CASUAL SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Responsible To: Council Program: Casual Swimming Instructor Swim School Supervisor Finance & Businesses Classification Level: Leisure, Level 1.1 Overview of Program The Adelaide Aquatic Centre will provide opportunities for the community to be active, maintain their health and participate in recreation and community sports programs. Key Relationships / Interactions Internal External Contribute to a supportive and collaborative working environment across all Aquatic Centre Teams Provide friendly and approachable customer service to all Swim School customers at all times and offer assistance as required Contribute to a positive, fun and safe experience for all participants within Aquatic Centre Programs

2 Primary Purpose As part of the Finance & Businesses Program the Swimming Instructor will; Provide learn to swim lessons to a range of people with different abilities. Promote water safety to all customers Provide a high level of customer service with the ability to interact and communicate effectively, both with children and parents to ensure they are aware of skill level and progress to ensure the retention of Swim School enrolments. Communicate feedback from customers to the Team Leader Aquatic Programming and Swim School Supervisor. Responsibilities The Swimming Instructor is responsible for; Assisting the Team Leader Aquatic Programming, Swim School Supervisor and Instructor in Charge in the day to day management of the Swim School. Actively participating and committing to the Splash Out Birthday Party and School Holiday Program roster over the course of each term. (Or other programs which may be implemented) Ensuring all equipment is collected and prepared prior to the commencement of your shift and packed away when finished. Promoting all Centre facilities and ensuring customer service and safety standards are of the highest standard for the benefit of all customers and staff. Assisting in the maintenance and storage of Centre equipment and property. Undertaking assessments throughout each term in conjunction with the supervisor and issue assessment cards as appropriate. Attending scheduled training sessions and regular staff meetings. Administering resuscitation when necessary. Qualifications Technical Knowledge & Experience Customer Commitment & Integrity Collaboration & Communication AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics AUSTSWIM Teacher of Aquatics for People with a Disability Australian Coaching Council Level 1 Swimming Coach Senior First Aid certification Demonstrated experience in an aquatic environment including the supervision and teaching of students at varying ages and abilities Experience in similar or other types of swimming programs A clear understanding of customer service principles and their application Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to manage diverse and challenging clients and situations tactfully Demonstrated high level skills in dealing confidently and courteously with people at all levels Experience in liaising and communicating directly with customers and resolving customer enquiries and issues in a professional manner Effective written and oral communication skills to meet staff and client needs Essential Desirable Desirable Essential Essential Administrative Skills Excellent time management skills Desirable Leisure Casual Swimming Instructor October 2016 PD Various Current Page 3

5 Special Conditions Performance will be based upon the delivery of the agreed goals recorded in your Performance Review documentation. As the Swim School operates over seven days, some weekend rostering will be required in order to meet the requirements of your role. Essential qualifications must be maintained by the incumbent on an ongoing basis A satisfactory Police Clearance. A satisfactory Medical Clearance. Physical Demands The below table summarises the physical demands of this role. Push / Pull Force: Low to Moderate force. Shift Duration: Various times. Environmental Factors: Working in and around water with children during swimming lessons. Task Rotation: Can change posture regularly. Breaks: 0:15 minute tea break, 0:30 meal break. PPE: Instructor uniform. O = Occasional (1 33%), F = Frequent (34 66%), C = Constant (67 100%) Summary: the physical work demands of a swimming instructor include teaching children mostly working in the water. It may be required that emergency assistance is required in the way of rescuing a child from deep water to providing emergency first aid and resuscitation.
