3 SAFETY Safety is the primary consideration in all Club operations. Patrol personnel should act responsibly at all times. Life Savers are high profile and everyone sees what you are doing. You should follow the PC's instructions at all times, unless your safety is risked. You need to be aware of your limitations and communicate these with the PC. Always follow usual Procedures. A 'RESCUE' is not a reason to operate un-safely, or outside of your approved skill level (i.e. large surf).

7 ORGANISTATIONAL STRUCTURE RLSS (QLD) - Branch of RLSSA - Founded 1905 by Charter (two years before SLSA), at Ithaca Baths - Owns two facilities (Burpengary & Gumdale) - Club is Affiliated (aligned) with RLSSQ - Club Members are members of Club (not RLSS), may join RLSS - Establishes training framework - Society Website Club's - Incorporated Charity's - Authority - Management Committee - Club Captain - Patrol Captains - Clubs operations managed by Club Captain - Operational Procedures (SOP's)
8 PATROL RESCUE QUALIFICATIONS Higher Qualifications, override lower Qualifications Once a member completes a higher qualification (providing they remain current), they do not need to complete the lower qualification and are considered to be proficient at the lower qualification. COMPONENT QUALIFICATION OVER-ARCHING QUAL'N PATROL BRONZE STAR PATROL BRONZE MEDALLION RESUSCITATION If a member completes a Patrol Bronze Medallion, he/she does not need to complete Patrol Bronze Star, Resuscitation or Radio Operator RADIO OPERATOR FIRST AID IRB INTRODUCTION IRB DRIVER / CREW PATROL LIFEGUARD If a member completes a Patrol Lifeguard, he/she does not need to complete Patrol Bronze Medallion or First Aid IRB COMP. If OPTIONAL a member completes a Patrol Bronze Lifeguard with IRB assessment, he/she does not need to complete another IRB assessment
9 PATROL RESCUE QUAL'N - OBJECTIVES Patrol Bronze Star Patrol Bronze Medallion 1) Development of accreditation requirements for members of affiliated Club in the Patrol Rescue Strand, 2) Development of Safe Operating Procedures to help protect our members from injury, Patrol Lifeguard 1) All the desired outcomes from Patrol Bronze Star & Patrol Bronze Medallion, plus 2) A qualification, that is desired for leaders of a team of beach lifesavers (Patrol Captains), and 3) A single qualification that 3) Development of learning pathways in encapsulates all key competencies to respect to Club based members, and facilitate streamlined annual reaccreditation whilst maintaining a high 4) Consistency of training amongst quality of skill & ability verification. affiliated Club and kindred organisations.
10 PATROL RESCUE QUAL'N - OBJECTIVES Patrol Bronze Star Patrol Lifeguard (PLGQ) Can rescue a conscious patient and provide basic first aid assistance. Can perform rescue and skills as per Patrol Bronze Medallion. May not hold first aid certificate. Can lead a team of Life Savers in a beach environment including: Managing major incidents (including debrief). Handling complaints, disputes and conflict. Maintaining Society & Club rules and policies. Conduct training (to your trainers level). Minor maintenance and repairs. Operates under the supervision of a Senior Life Saver (PC). Patrol Bronze Medallion Can rescue an unconscious patient, provide emergency care and basic life support. Operates under the supervision of a Senior Life Saver (PC).
