3 (Admission by Badge) Pool Installation 101 Short Course 13:00-16:30 Monday, December 3, 2018 Room: 221 & 222 Level: Novice Pool Installation 101 is an introductory course covering the basics of inground pool installation. Students will learn the fundamentals of swimming pool construction, from the preparation of the contract to the completion of the project. This course is intended for new construction staff, but will also be beneficial to other personnel within the company such as retail and service personnel. The knowledge gained from the Pool Installation 101 course will raise the overall level of expertise within your operation resulting in improved customer service. 4 (Admission by Badge) Pool Installation 201 Short Course 09:00-12:00 Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Room: 221 & 222 The Pool Installation 201 course builds upon the knowledge derived from the introductory 101 course and is intended for more experienced construction personnel who wish to enhance their existing skill sets. The course material has been developed with input from builders and manufacturers throughout the industry and will delve into the intricacies of various inground pool construction techniques. The combined curricula of these two pool installation courses will provide you with the tools necessary to develop an in-house train the trainer program. Upon completion, students will have skills that will enhance how they deal with brick-and-mortar and online competitors, their online presence, and product positioning. They will learn some techniques to aid in the creation of a more appealing and effective retail environment and how to handle customer reviews. Head Instructor: DAVID WARRN. Total Tech Pools & Leisure, Oakville, ON Dave Warren started in the swimming pool industry as a part time job in high school and continued while attending University in Toronto. 6 (Admission by Badge) Water Chemistry 101 Short Course 13:00-15:00 Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Room: 221 & 222 Level: Novice This course will teach participants the basics of swimming pool water balance and water care. It will include the importance of sanitizing and oxidizing and a general understanding of ph, total alkalinity and calcium hardness and other water balance parameters. This course is a great introduction, ensuring a proper grounding in water care and a prerequisite to advanced chemistry. Head Instructor: ROB KAMSTRA, Backyard Brands Inc., Markham, ON Rob Kamstra leads the Backyard Brands sales team as Director of Business Development. He has more than 25 years of experience in the pool and hot tub industry. Rob presently serves as President of Pool and Hot Tub Council of Canada and has supported the Council in several areas such as marketing and business education. Most recently, he has rewritten the basic and advanced chemistry courses. He has been a frequent conference presenter throughout the industry on both chemical and business/marketing topics. And there are some fairly simple and ingenious ways to save time and improve overall efficiency in the aquatic recreation industry. Students will learn a number of effective short cuts from experts in the field, experts who have gained considerable knowledge over many years in constructing, maintaining and servicing swimming pools and hot tubs. In addition you will be taught how to operate and perform basic programming for the most common systems currently in use. Co-Instructor: DUSTIN DNIS, Hayward Pool Products Canada, Oakville, ON Dustin Denis has been in the swimming pool industry since Prior to joining Hayward in 2006, Dustin was the Co-Owner of AquaDen Pools based in Guelph, Ontario. During the winter months Dustin also worked in Australia servicing the Gold Coast market. Dustin joined Hayward Pool Products Canada in 2006 as a Technical Specialist and moved into a sales role in He had been working as a District Sales Manager in the Ontario market since January of 2010 and is currently Hayward s Regional Sales Manager. Co-Instructor: DARRN HILL, Pentair Aquatic Systems, tobicoke, ON Darren Hill has been active in the Swimming Pool Industry since 1988 following a family tradition. He initially worked in the service and then construction fields while attending school. Darren received his B.Comm from Ryerson University in 1999 and after a period of travel he started his career with Pac Fab as a manufacturer s representative. As the company grew and evolved into Pentair he became a Territory Sales Manager in Darren is currently Regional Sales Manager for Pentair and is very active in the industry. Co-Instructor: GARY SCOTT, Zodiac Pool Systems Canada Inc., Burlington, ON Gary Scott is the National Service & Training Manager for Zodiac Pool Systems Canada, a Fluidra Company. He has extensive experience in the pool and spa industry, starting in 1984 with a small manufacturer in London. He then ran his own technical service company before joining the predecessor to Jandy Pool Products, Teledyne Laars in 1991 in a sales role. Gary is a certified pool operator and a licensed gas fitter, and a trusted contributor to the industry.
