1 Tennis Academy News March has been a month full of tournaments. The players have been away from the academy and have competed all over the world, gaining good results. Although many coaches have been away, trainings have been held as usual in Järfälla. In mid-april Kristina Andlovic will join the Good to Great team as our new coach. Welcome 1

2 The Academy ITF Kramfors The second week in Kramfors was played in early March. Here Fanny Östlund, Arezo Ghannadan and Mirjam Björklund played. Mirjam unfortunately lost in the very first round. However, better results were made by Arezo and Fanny. Both won their matches in straight sets and later both were standing in the quarter-finals. Here Arezo unfortunately lost, her opponent was the tuff top seeded Ioana Minca from Romania. Fanny won her quarter-final against Francesca Brancato from Italy. It was an easy match, won by Fanny. In the semi-final she won again against an Italian girl, this time also in straight sets. Fanny played the final against Arezo s quarter-final opponent. Fanny managed to win and did it by not losing a single set throughout the whole tournament. Fanny won the final , very well done. Congratulations Finland - Pajulahti A tennis Europe tournament in Finland was played in mid-march. Those who went from the academy were Herman Höyeraal, Axel Olsson Mörk and Rikard Rååd. Along on this trip was coach Martin Öhrman. Rikard Rååd easily won his qualifying matches. Axel Olsson Mörk unfortunately lost already in the second qualifying match. Opponent was the Russian boy Gordey Simornov. The match ended with Rikard Rååd played all the way through to the second round in main draw where he unfortunately lost. In the doubles, it was Herman Höyeraal and Axel Olsson Mörk who played in pairs. They both played good and they won all their matches up to the final. In the final they faced the Estonian pair Robin Erik Parts and John Seeman. Unfortunately, the Good to Great players lost with Greece Beatrice Cedermark was one out of three Good to Great players who played in Greece. Both coach Johan Örtegren and coach Peter Carlsson went along on the Greek tournaments. In the third tournament Beatrice won all her qualifying matches. Unfortunately, she lost in the first round in main draw. Her opponent was Russian Anastasiya, Rikard Rååd and Herman Höyeraal after the final 2

3 Igor Tubic played very good during the first week. He won all of his qualifying matches and made it into the main draw. There he unfortunately was stopped by a Czech Republic guy, David Simunek. Good to Great s new player Alina Silich played both singles and doubles. In the single she lost early on but in the doubles the result was better. Alina played the doubles along with Akvile Parazinskaite from Lithuania. They won their matches and in the end they stood as finalists. They won the final easily, Congratulations Guest players In March, we had five guest players at the academy. Ergi Kirkin from Turkey, born in The academy had also a Swedish guy as guest during week 12, Karl Friberg. Karl is also born 1999 and is ranked number one in Sweden for his age. After Ergi Kirkin visited us for a week he has now chosen to have Good to Great as his training base. Welcome We have also a Russian player named Ruslan Khunarikov at our facilities. Ruslan will stay longer then expected since ge is very satisfied with the training. In week 13, we had another guest player, Henri Kontinen from Finland, born in Henri played a bit with Elias Ymer. Coach Nicklas Kulti had primary responsibility for his training days at the academy. The last guest player in March was Renée Van Bommel. She was at the academy for three days together with her two coaches. Moreover at the Academy Good to Great is currently preparing our outdoor courts at Djugårdsbrunn. If the weather is good they are hopefully prepared and ready to play on in next week. Alina and Akvile after the win in Greece 3

4 Team Bactiguard Elias Ymer Elias got a wild card into the qualifying of the Sony Open in Miami and went there on his own. Elias was drawn against David Goffin from Belgium who is 23 years old and ranked ATP 105. Elias played good in the first set but then lost a bit of confidence in the second. The match ended Obviously, this WC was an incredible experience and a great chance to get to meet an experienced, older and better ATP player. After Miami Elias went home to train for three days before he went on to Egypt. In Egypt he will play three Futures in March and April. In the first tournament Elias like in Miami received a WC. Although he came in as a WC player Elias easily won his qualifying matches. He won them though loosing only three games in total. In the main draw Elias faced the two years older Antoine Richard, despite the age difference Elias won the match very easily. Thereafter, he advanced by winning against Andriej Kapas (POL), Libor Salaba (CZE) and Juan Samuel Arauzo Martinez. (ESP) Once in the final Elias faced the opponent Marko Tepavak from Serbia. Elias won with the convincing result Congratulations Elias This was Elia's first Future win and we hope for more success in the next two up coming tournaments in Egypt. Elias after the win in F12 Egypt Daniel Windahl After a period at home with technique and physical training Daniel was ready for his second Team Bactiguard tour together with coach Peter Carlsson. The Tournament plan was to play Greece's Future 2,3 and 4. First week Daniel won two matches in qualifying and in the third round he lost after having had match point. The opponent was Reuter from Belgium, ranked ATP 300. "The match had high standard and the level was so high that it could have been an semi-final in the main draw. Said Peter Carlsson after the match. After these four days training followed. Daniel trained together with many different nationalities and with the help of Niklas Heckscher from Ultimate Performance the physical training was excellence. 4

5 Daniel qualified in the second tournament, which was F3, he won and qualified easily by his good and smart play. The week after, he continued to play good and showed great skill when he dared to play on his full potential, Peter Carlsson explains afterwards. He won the first match against a Czech, the second against a Frenchman and in the qualifying final he won, against the four-year older Martej Sabanov from Croatia. The first round in the main draw Daniels opponent was the ATP800 ranked Viktor Filipenko from Hungary. Daniel won the match convincingly, In the second round he unfortunately lost. "I felt that Daniel each day developed in Greece as he now fully will engage in senior tennis." Says Peter Carlsson. Mikael Ymer Mikael has had a tough tournament period in March. In mid-march he was in Croatia, and got a WC directly into the main tournament. Mikael won the first match easy against the Ukrainian player Olexiy Kolisnyk. Mikael also won in the second round where he met the Italian Riccardo Chessari. Mikael won In the third round Mikael s opponent was the second seeded Spaniard Jaume Antoni Munar Clar. Munar Clar is ranked number 13 among juniors. Mikael played very good but he lost, Mikael need a bit more confidence in these matches. says coach Johan Hedsberg afterwards. In late March Mikael and Johan Hedsberg went to Barcelona to work out at the Barcelona Total Tennis Academy (BTT). After a week of training with Rafael Nadal s coach Mikael and Johan Hedsberg where off to France. He will now play three ITF tournaments. 6 Team Catella Rebecca won her first WTA-match Rebecca Peterson has been away on a long tournament tour in March. The journey began with four days of training outside Sao Paolo, Brazil, before it was time for matches. Rebecca met the third seeded Kristina Kucova from Czech Republic, ranked WTA146. After losing the first set 2-6 Rebecca really took her chances in the second, but she unfortunately lost with the result Rebecca took advantage of the time before the next tournament and got to train with many great players during the week. Unfortunately, it was also this week an early loss, already in the first round. The match took place in Campinas, Brazil, and it was a match which several times was interrupted by rain. Rebecca's journey ended, however, in a better way. Through her management company Rebecca received a WC in the main draw to the WTA tournament Sony Open, in Miami. It is the biggest tournament of the year after the four Grand Slams. This is of course was something that gave Rebecca a huge experience and confidence since she never has played a tournament of that size before. Despite nervousness in the first match Rebecca really convinced She had 0-3 and changed the numbers to when the opponent Mona Barthel ranked 84 unfortunately retired. Although Barthel retired, Rebecca s effort was fantastic. In the second round, Rebecca lost to Ekaterina Makarova from Russia, Makarova is ranked WTA 24. The points (35) which Rebecca received form Miami means that she should be ready for the qualifying to French Open Now it is a couple of hard training weeks at the academy for her. Jacqueline showed strength in Greece Jacqueline is just back after three tournaments on Crete, Greece. In the first tournament Crete offered very difficult playing conditions, 10 degrees and wind throughout the week. Jacqueline lost to a talented older girl from Lithuania, Akvile Parazinskajte, ranked top 20 in the world by juniors. The day before the second tournament week, Jacqueline acute went to the hospital with incredible stomach ache, although she lay with drip all afternoon Jacqueline went out the following day and won her both qualifying matches. A huge accomplishment considering what she had to go through the day before. Encouraged by this, she continued on that path and went on to the semi-finals. This was her best result at this level so far.
